C19 Only You Can Save Me
Late at night, Yiting finally managed to get Anran to sleep and was rubbing her shoulders as she headed downstairs to the duty room. Just as she was about to enter, her phone rang. It was Jun.
"Hello," Yiting answered softly, her cheeks slightly flushed.
Jun was sitting in the master bedroom with the window wide open, making the wind chime ring softly. He glanced at the chime, puzzled by why girls liked such things, especially in purple. To him, purple was no different from black and white.
"Why aren't you home yet?" he asked.
He had rushed home after work, only to find out from the housekeeper that she hadn't returned.
"I'm on duty tonight," Yiting explained.
"What?!" Jun stood up abruptly, his expression darkening. "What kind of nurse works until seven and still has to stay on duty?"
Yiting sensed he might have misunderstood her, so she carefully clarified, "I mean, I have to stay at the hospital tonight for the night shift..."
As soon as she finished, she quickly moved the phone away from her ear, anticipating Jun's outburst: "You're not coming home tonight?!"
Yiting reread his words, feeling something was off. "Mr. Huo... Jun... Director Huo... it's for work!"
Jun's face was stormy as he paced the room with his phone. "Wait for me. I'm coming to get you!" he declared, hanging up and rushing out, muttering, "Doesn't she know they're newlyweds?"
The housekeeper, busy in the living room, was taken aback by Jun's hurried departure. "Sir, are you going to pick up the missus?"
Jun replied irritably, "Yes! Hmph, thinking she can stay out all night. I won't let that happen!"
With that, he disappeared from the housekeeper's view, and soon the sound of an engine starting could be heard.
The butler blinked, realizing just how much the young master cared for the lady of the house. He couldn't even endure one night without her! It seemed he'd have to show her even more respect in the future.
...
Yiting had no idea what was happening on the other end. She looked at her phone, puzzled after the call was abruptly cut off. Since she held the phone at a distance, she didn't know that Jun was on his way to find her.
She slowly walked to the duty room and saw Dr. Chen.
"Dr. Chen, are you on duty today too?" Yiting asked, surprised as she glanced at the duty roster. "That's odd, it should be Dr. Jiang on duty today!"
Dr. Chen chuckled at her innocent expression. "Didn't you know? They're all out for dinner tonight, a singles mixer!"
Yiting's face froze. Once again, she found herself excluded. How awkward.
She looked up at Dr. Chen, curious. "If I remember correctly, you're single too, right? Why didn't you go?"
Dr. Chen leaned back in his chair, looking relaxed. "Because... I already have someone I like."
Having someone he liked was reason enough not to go!
Yiting's eyes lit up with curiosity. She bounced over to Dr. Chen. "Who is it, Dr. Chen? I never imagined you had someone special. That's quite a surprise."
Indeed, it was surprising. Everyone at the hospital knew Dr. Chen was single—handsome, knowledgeable, gentle, and considerate. He was the perfect catch, yet still single. He was practically a walking heartthrob!
Dr. Chen watched Yiting, but she was lost in her own thoughts. "Is it Nurse Liu? No, she's pretty but her personality doesn't match Dr. Chen's. Maybe Nurse Shen? No, even though everyone knows she likes Dr. Chen, she always denies it. She's too timid for him. Could it be Nurse Cen? No, she likes to bully the new nurses. Someone like that isn't right for Dr. Chen!"
Yiting ran a hand through her hair, exclaiming, "Ugh, who could it be? None of them seem right for Dr. Chen!"
"It's you!"
Suddenly, Shaoyang, who had been silent, spoke up, nearly startling Yiting out of her wits! She opened her mouth, unsure of what to say, and could only gaze at Shaoyang with her beautiful eyes.
Shaoyang looked at her, earnest and captivated: "You shed tears over a lost life, which shows your kindness. You never get upset over others' mockery, which shows your grace. You care for and accompany Anran, which shows your wonderful character. You're truly a good person!"
Shaoyang stood up and slowly walked toward Yiting. "Yiting, as you said, no one else is right for me. If I don't want to grow old alone, only you can save me!"
