C4 An Enemy

Lu Yiting realized that at this moment, she felt surprisingly relieved. The reason she had always felt inferior in his presence was simply because she loved him too much. Now that her love was slowly cooling, she saw that the man she once thought was perfect was just an ordinary person, no different from anyone else. Yiting's eyes widened, blazing with anger, her face flushed. She bit her lip, her chest heaving with intense fury, a stark contrast to her usual demeanor. Lee Kaiwei's eyes flickered; he had never seen Yiting like this before. In their few encounters, she had always been serene, her eyes filled with stars.

During their three years of marriage, what he remembered most about her were those eyes. As he thought about this, his gaze fell on Yiting's face. Her makeup was flawless, and upon closer inspection, he noticed she was wearing a fiery red gown adorned with pearls at the neckline, highlighting her alabaster collarbone and neck. Her delicate ears were adorned with pearl earrings that matched the ones on her dress.

At that moment, her emotions were unstable, causing her earrings to sway slightly, which caught Lee Kaiwei's attention. Her beauty was striking, with skin like snow and features like a flower.

Suppressing his restless heart, he averted his gaze and spoke more coldly, "Anyway, I've warned you. Stay away from the storm, and pass the message to Jun: if he wants to oppose me, I'm ready to face him!"

With that, he intended to leave, but Yiting, with unexpected strength, suddenly grabbed him. Her voice was low, filled with a suppressed fury that, if listened to closely, revealed a deep-seated resentment.

"Why? You know very well that Lau Fengxue is the one responsible for my brother's death. Why do you still protect her, Lee Kaiwei? I've loved you for five years, been Mrs. Lee for three, devoted myself completely. What did I do wrong for you to humiliate me at my own birthday party? Tell me, why?"

Lee paused, not turning around, but instead looking down at the slender hands clutching his clothes, examining them closely. He remembered the day Fengxue was sentenced, in the rain, those same hands had slapped him, then gently wiped the rain from his face, holding him in the deep night. He had been moved then.

He gently removed Yiting's hands and said calmly, "If you never knew the truth, you would always be Mrs. Lee."

Tears welled up in Yiting's eyes, but she forced them back, her voice filled with sorrow and despair.

"Yes, if I didn't know the truth, I'd be kept in the dark by you and Lau Fengxue, devoted to you both. Haha, then, would Director Lee think that Yiting, just like Yiming, is a complete fool?"

She kept retreating until she reached the wall, as if finding support. Her voice was desperate yet clear.

"Lee Kaiwei, you lied to me for so long to help Lau Fengxue hide the truth!"

Lee Kaiwei's body tensed slightly, and he lowered his gaze. "Fengxue was young at the time, it wasn't intentional, and... your brother went along with it willingly!"

Yiting didn't respond immediately. Lee Kaiwei glanced back at her, seeing her head bowed, obscuring her expression.

After a moment, just when Lee Kaiwei thought Yiting wouldn't speak again, her voice suddenly broke the silence.

"Yeah, Lau Fengxue is beautiful beyond compare, and my brother had a crush on her for so long. So, after he was sentenced to death, I never blamed her. I thought it was all an accident. When I saw my brother for the last time, he smiled and told me it was all an accident, never saying a bad word about Fengxue..."

Yiting abruptly lifted her head, her eyes blazing with a fire that seemed capable of burning the world to ashes.

Lee Kaiwei stared at Yiting for a long moment before his gaze shifted away, emotionless. He turned to leave, his voice trailing behind him. "Believe it or not, Fengxue realizes her mistake now."

Yiting let out a bitter, mocking laugh, whispering to herself, "No, she hasn't changed, and... I will never forgive her!"

After signing the contract Huo Jun gave her, she was destined to stake her soul in a battle against Lau Fengxue.
