C10 Chapter Ten

Mrs Smith was panting when she got to the hospital Paisley was admitted.

"Can I see my daughter?" she asked a nurse.

"Calm down ma'am. She is still at the ICU," the nurse responded and went about her business.

Mrs Smith paced the hallway restlessly. She couldn't think straight. Paisley was all she had in this life.

You are wondering why? She considered Kate a bad mistake.

Soon, the doctor came out of Paisley's ward. Mrs Smith dashed to him.

"How is my daughter now?" she questioned.

"She is out of danger now. She should wake up in the next five to six hours," the doctor said.

"Can I see her?" she requested.

"Yes but please endeavour not to make any sound that might make her wake. If she wakes without getting enough sleep, there is high probability that she might slip into coma," the doctor said.

"Thanks," Mrs Smith said.

She went to the ward her daughter was now wheeled into.

The sight of her daughter made her burst into silent sobs. She couldn't believe this was her daughter whom she saw hale and healthy before she left home.

She sat on a chair close to her. She held her hand affectionately.

"Pais, be fine. Mum is waiting to see you smile again. Dad would soon be back too. He promised to get you something precious, right? So, wake up soon so that you can receive dad's gift with your warm smile and hug him in return for being the best daddy," she said with her voice as low as a whisper.

"Mummy will be waiting for you," she held her hand and looked at her calm beautiful face.

Mrs Smith was in the ward for almost ten minutes before a nurse entered and told her that she needs to leave the patient to rest well.

She left the hospital and went home to prepare her daughter's favourite meal.

Miller smiled broadly when he sighted Kate.

'I'm a lucky man. She will serve me during the day and at night,' he thought.

Kate, on the other hand, was already crying within. She knew he would be glad to torture her.

"Where is the manager?" Miller asked in his usual cold tone.

The workers who had seen him smile earlier were surprised at his change of aura.

"He is waiting at your office," Jessica responded smiling non-stop.

Jessica was already imagining how to capture their new boss's heart as she finds him handsome and of course, rich. She was already plotting how she would entice him with her body.

Miller looked around for Kate and found her trying to hide behind taller workers.

"Hey," he pointed in Kate's direction.

Kate's heart missed a beat when she saw him point in her direction. She knew he was referring to her but pretended to be indifferent.

The other workers moved forward in a rush.

"Not none of you. I mean that lady hiding," Miller said.

Quinn pulled Kate out as she was obviously the only one hiding.

Every other person wanted to see Miller.

"Why are you hiding? Do you owe him?" Quinn whispered.

Kate looked helplessly at Quinn and nodded negatively. She moved forward and bowed.

"Why are you hiding? Are you a spy?" Miller questioned.

Kate looked at him and saw mischief dancing in his eyes.

'Arrrhhh! Will he frustrate me here too?' Kate wondered.

"No sir. I wasn't hiding. The others were just taller than me so that is why it seems as though I was hiding," Kate explained.

"Okay," Miller nodded.

He looked over his shoulder and left for his office. As he was about to move forward, Kate poke her leg forward. Miller who was unknowing fell down.

The workers gasped. Jessica rushed towards Miller and tried to help him up. The latter hit her hand off and helped himself up. He glared at the workers, Kate the most before going to his office.

'I'm sacking that manager first for being irresponsible. He should welcome him at the entrance himself,' Miller fumed as he walked to his office.

"Good afternoon sir," Mr Mark greeted as he opened the door to let Miller in.

"What is good about the afternoon? A responsible manager should welcome the new owner at the entrance," Miller thundered.

Mr Mark looked stunned. He was lost. Peter looked at him pitifully. He was in for Miller's wrath.

"Sir, I would have but your assistant, Mr Peter called and said I should be at your office's door to welcome you," Mr Mark said.

He wasn't going to let an assistant put his job on the line.

Miller looked questioning at Peter.

"Yes, I did on your instruction," Peter said.

Miller didn't say anything. He just nodded. He faced the manager.

"Where are the files I asked to be prepared before my arrival?"

"They are before you sir. I sent them to your assistant too."

"Okay. Dismiss"

Mr Mark left the office. He went to his office. His new boss is gonna be a difficult one.

The workers were discussing among themselves how the new CEO fell.

"Gosh! You need to see how I saw the fall. He fell like an angel from heaven. I thought I was going to stop breathing," Jessica said.

"Jessica, you can't have the boss. I'm going to have him before you do," Amelia said, "You should be wondering why and what made him fall," she said.

"It doesn't matter why or what made him fall. What matters is he fell like an angel," Jessica frowned at what Amelia said.

Amelia laughed at Jessica. "You should stop daydreaming. Did you think I didn't see how he slapped your hand away? He didn't look at you once."

Jessica clenched her fist. "It was because he was embarrassed by the fall. I will have him by all means."

Jessica and Amelia continued bantering about who and who will have the boss first.

Quinn folded her arms and stared at Kate.

"Do you know the boss from somewhere?"

"No. I don't. I have never seen him. Why are you questioning me?"

"I think he knows you. I mean you weren't the only short person behind. How come he noticed only you?"

"My beauty attracted him," Kate flipped her hair to the side and poised like a model.

Quinn laughed at her and jabbed her.

"Stop being silly."
