C2 Chapter Two

Kate arrived at her work late. She was lucky the manager hadn't checked around by the time she arrived. She immediately set to work with her beautiful smile.

"How are you?" Quinn, Kate's colleague as well as friend, asked.

"I'm fine. How are you too?" Kate responded.

"I'm good too. Have you been assigned the floor you will clean today?" Quinn questioned.

"No. I haven't seen Mr Mark today," Kate replied.

"Oh! I heard he won't be around till evening," Quinn said, "You should check the notice board. Let's go. I'm off there too," Quinn said.

She and Kate went to check. Luckily, they were assigned to the same floor.

After the day's work, Kate left to prepare for her night shift work at the bar. She was freshening up when her menstruation started.

"Gosh!" Kate hit in between her eyebrows as she rushed to get her sanitary pad from her bag. She dressed up after showering and quickly left for work.

"Good evening," Kate smiled at Rhoda.

"How are you?" Rhoda replied.

"I'm fine," Kate responded.

She and Rhoda went to change their dress into their uniform. The sale began to pick very well.

"A shot, please," a guy putting on a black jacket over jean trousers said sitting at the bar table.

"Here," Kate gave the drink to him.

"You are pretty," the guy complimented.

"Thanks," Kate smiled.

"I'm Gary," the guy introduced.

"Kate," Kate said.

"Can you help me?" Gary questioned.

"With what, sir?" Kate responded.

"I'm not sir. Call me Gary," Gary said.

"Ok Gary," Kate said.

"What can you do to please a lady?" Gary asked.

"I'm not familiar with relationship tips but I know if you give the lady what she likes. Most ladies like pleasant surprises no matter how small it is," Kate gave her piece of advice.

"I did that. I gave her everything yet she left me. She left me for another guy," Gray said and broke down in tears.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Kate said.

"It's fine," Gray said and took a shot of his drink. Kate left him to attend to another customer.

Rhoda prepared a drink and put it on a tray. She passed the drink to Kate. "This is for the boss," Rhoda said.

"Where is he?" Kate asked as she was looking for a way to get out of the reach of Gray.

"The last room by the left on the last floor," Rhoda said.

"Alright," Kate took the tray and made to leave.

"Use the elevator," Rhoda said. Kate nodded and left.

Kate was feeling nervous as she hasn't met the boss. She doesn't even know who owns the bar. She only knows his name is Miller Chalmers. If she had surfed the web for details about him, she would have known who her boss is.

Miller Chalmers is one of the richest and most popular bachelors in Country A. Presently, Miller is sitting on a chair opposite a table in a room. The room has a top to floor window. The view from the window is beautiful, especially on a buzzing night like this one. His phone rang.

"Hello Miller," Steph said.

"What is it?" Miller responded.

"Calm down Mill. I mean no harm," Steph said.

"What do you need? Haven't I paid you off already?" Miller said getting annoyed.

"I know you paid me but do you think I will agree to cut off the marriage?" Steph laughed, "I used the money to get my wedding dress," she said.

"Well, you can hold your wedding without a groom," Miller said.

"That is impossible. I will report to Ma and Pa," Steph said.

Miller laughed, "Are you threatening me Ma and Pa? Steph, get this to your head, we won't get married to each other. An arranged marriage is not my thing. Pa is just selfish. And you are too," Miller said.

"Nothing on this earth can stop our marriage," Steph said and ended the call.

Miller leaned into the chair and heaved a sigh. He stood and walked to the window. He rested his arm on the wall beside the window and has his other hand in his pocket. He was lost in thought when he heard a knock at the door.

Kate got to the last floor. It was easy for her to find her boss's room as it stood apart from the other rooms. She inhaled and exhaled so many times before lifting her hand to knock on the door. Her hand was halfway in the air when she withdrew her hand.

"God help me. Don't let me fail myself. I can't afford to renounce my job. It is not easy to find another, especially a good-paying one like this one. Help me God for my father's sake," she prayed. She mustered courage and knocked on the door.

"Who is there?" Miller asked.

"Sir, you ordered a drink. I'm here to deliver it," Kate responded.

"Okay. Come in," Miller said.

Kate entered first by peeking at the room. Finally, she entered fully. She looked around for where to drop the tray but found none as the only table has a laptop occupying it.

"You should be out by now," Miller said still looking out of the window.

"Yes sir but I'm stuck on where to drop it," Kate replied.

"Drop it on the table," Miller commanded.

Kate moved to the table. As she was about to drop the tray, the drink spilt on the laptop. She gasped and held the tray with shaking hands. Hearing her gasp, Miller knew she has made a mistake. He turned to see his laptop in the pool of a drink; that is an exaggeration though.

"I'm sorry sir. I don't know how it poured. I was being careful but it just happened," Kate had her head facing down as she managed to say those words in a shaking voice.

Miller was amazed by the beauty in front of him. He felt like taking her to his bed immediately. A mischievous grin played on his face as he listened to the beauty's apology.

"What is your name?" he asked.

"Kate, sir," Kate replied still bowing, "I'm sorry," she apologised.

"What punishment should I give to you? Do you realise that laptop has most of my important documents?" Miller said.

Kate swallowed as a tear dropped. She couldn't even think of what to say. She just knew her life is doomed.

"I'm sorry, sir. I'm a pauper who has nothing to give," Kate said.

"I didn't ask you what to give me but I asked you what type of punishment you want," Miller thundered.

Kate shivered and the tray fell to the floor. A broken bottle pierced her toe but she held the pain in her throat.

"I'm sorry sir," Kate couldn't hold her tears anymore.

She was feeling pain from the fear of being sacked and also pain from the bottle.

"Another one?" Miller asked.

"Sir...," Kate was interrupted.

"Pay for all these messes with your body and also go home with cash," Miller said.

Kate looked up at her boss and stared at him.
