C7 Chapter Seven

Miller was dumbstruck. He couldn't believe Kate can be this dense. Who uses their shoe to knock? He chuckled.

"I'm sorry sir," Kate went on her knees with her head bowed. She was already tearing up.

"Come inside," Miller said and walked into the room with his hand in his pocket and a mischievous grin on his handsome face.

Kate stood up immediately, carried the tray and walked behind her boss. This time she was lucky to find the table empty. She dropped the tray on it and bowed her head.

"Did I tell you to drop it?" Miller thundered.

"I'm...I'm... sorry... sir," Kate shuttered and carried the tray.

Miller's eyes danced happily around their sockets. This is what he was looking for. To frustrate someone.

"You can drop it," he said.

Kate held the tray angrily. If he would later ask me to drop it, why did he allow me to carry it in the first place? she wondered. Nevertheless, she did as instructed.

"Serve me. Oh? Did I say serve me? Serve us," Miller said.

"I'm sorry sir. I don't do alcohol," Kate mumbled.

"Are you refuting my command?" he thundered making Kate shiver.

"I'm sorry," Kate's voice almost failed her as she was already close to tears.

She served his drink, their drink. She still stood bowing. She was boiling with anger but calmed herself.

"You can't get a night job with a pay as huge as this company's. Calm down, babe. This is just for the time being. It won't be permanent. Remember, no condition is permanent," her inner self admonished.

She breathed in, then let it out. She hides her sadness with a smile. She cleared her throat and looked up to Miller.

"Is there anything I can do for you, sir?" she asked smiling.

Her smile was so contagious that Miller smile too but he quickly changed his expression when he recalled he was to frustrate this being before him.

"Yeah. So many things, Kate," Miller said.

"I will like to know them. I'd do them happily," Kate said.

Miller narrowed his eyes. He expected her to beg and not this that she was doing. His plan might get foiled like this.

"Sit," Miller said sounding warm towards her.

Kate squinted her eyes.

"Don't fall for it!" her inner self screamed, "You know he is a playboy. Rhoda told you, didn't she?" her inner self questioned.

"Yes, she did," Kate said forgetting she wasn't alone.

Now, it was Miller who had his eyes squinting.

"Is she alright? Mentally? Did the little accident affect her? The doctor said it was nothing huge, right?" Miller wondered.

He was already making a mental note to call the doctor.

"Who are you talking to?" Miller asked.

"No one," Kate responded.

Miller eyed her. "I told you to sit," he said.

"I'm fine just standing," Kate said.

"About the accident this morning," Miller's introductory statement captured Kate's attention.

She knew this was going to come since she was told at the hospital that Miller footed her bills.

"I can pay you back," Kate said.

Miller laughed sinisterly, "Really?" he raised an eyebrow.

"Yes sir. My salary will be divided into two. One half will be used to pay the debt while I will be paid the second half. The accident wasn't intentional though," Kate said but only mumbled the last statement.

"Why divide your salary? I got an easier way for you to pay up," he said.

Kate's mood lightened up but on a second thought, she frowned knowing the type of person Miller is. He can be very scheming.

"I will do it if it is morally upright," she said.

Miller frowned, "Am I the one who lacks morals?"

"I didn't mean it that way, sir. I'm sorry, sir," Kate quoth.

"Oh okay. So, here is the deal. You will be my pet for a month," he said.

"Pet? If you needed a pet, you could have purchased a dog or cat," she was confused.

Miller frowned. He was getting pissed off by her stupid questions.

"Yes, pet. You will always be at my beck and call. And also do anything that I want. Anything," he said stressing 'anything'.

Kate knew that surely his offer wasn't bound to favour her. It will be for his own good only.

"But sir," Kate put up her innocent and puppy look.

Miller sneered at her. He was right. People with the same eye colour have the same attributes. Well, he wasn't going to fall for it.

"See, I'm done with you. Get out of my room," Miller said with a calm demeanour.

Hearing him tell her to get out, Kate went to her knees. She thought he had fired her. She couldn't afford to lose this job. Today is her second day at this work for Heaven's sake!

"I will be your pet. I don't mind. I will do anything. I need the pay from this work and no company is gonna pay me something as beneficial as your company," she pleaded.

"You don't, dear Kate. If you do, you won't have attempted to disrespect me," he said.

"Disrespect? I didn't," she was having a mixed emotions of fear and anger.

Afraid that she might lose her job; Angry that her boss is being unreasonable and unfair.

"Aren't you being disrespectful now?" he looked at her with cold eyes.

"I'm sorry sir," she knew apologising is the best.

'His best food is 'I'm sorry'. 'I'm sorry' can make him fill all day. Even weeks' Kate thought while still keeping her innocent face.

Miller chuckled. He watched as Kate apologise non-stop. He was ready to dismiss her as he had had enough of her frustrated look.

"I'm not angry. You can go back to work or do you wanna warm my bed?" he winked.

"I will leave," she bowed and left immediately.

Miller laughed for a long time after Kate had left. He was still laughing when he touched his head and recalled she had used her shoe to hit his head. He rushed to the bathroom. He can't afford to have lice on his hair. He even went as far as using toothpaste to wash his hair.

Kate was relieved when she finally left that room.

"God please don't let me encounter anything that will make me go to that room again," she prayed.

"Kate," Rhoda called as Kate was going to the restroom.

"Yes," she turned.

"Are you okay? Hope the boss didn't......," Rhoda trailed off.

"He didn't. Thanks for the care," Kate said and went to the restroom.

She did her business and went back to the counter.

"Hey Kate, how are you?" a voice called out.

Turning around, Kate saw Gary.
