C8 Chapter Eight

"Hi Gary," Kate smiled but deep in her mind, she was angry.

'I'm not a relationship expert,' she screamed in her head.

"How are you doing today? Your smile said great already," Gary said and held Kate's hand before kissing her knuckles.

Kate rolled her eyes. "Sure. Sure. What shot do you want?" she questioned.

"What I had yesterday," Gary responded.

"Okay," Kate began to prepare his shot.

"You know, I need to thank you. I was able to get things straight with my girlfriend. Oh, did I say girlfriend? I meant ex-girlfriend," he said.

Kate just smiled. She wasn't interested in his rambling. Her mind was occupied with whether Miller will sack her or not.

"Here," she handed his shot to him. "I'm happy you were able to know what is right for you," she added so that it wouldn't seem as though he was just blabbing.

"Yeah. I'm here to celebrate this new freedom. I feel so free," he laughed heartedly and gulped his drink at a go.

Kate scoffed silently.

"He doesn't know freedom is the combination of being free and being doomed. Hahaha, I got my dose of freedom ever since I was labelled a free person," she laughed within herself.

Gary had other shots during the night. It was Kate who was attending to him as well as some other customers.

Miller showered after washing his hair. He wanted to go to his penthouse but dismissed it thinking Steph might be there. He wasn't ready for Steph's drama. He had enough of dramas. As soon as he stepped into bed trying to get sleep, he received a call.

At first he ignored the call but when it became persistent, he picked it.

"Sir," his assistant voice said.

"What is it?" he questioned.

"Your goods were confiscated at the seaport."

"Connect me with the officer in charge as soon as possible," he hung the call and laid on the bed.

Few minutes later, his phone rang again.

"I don't need an explanation as to why my goods were confiscated. All I know is that my goods must get to my warehouse before or by eight o'clock tomorrow," his tone was cold and authoritative.

"Okay sir," the call ended.

He stretched and changed his sleeping position. Soon, he was fast asleep.

Kate prepared her father's meal. She dressed up for work and then took the food to her father.

"Good morning papa," she kissed her father on the cheeks with a smile on her face.

"How are you? Hope you didn't over work?" her father replied weakly with his eyes lightening. One will be able to tell he was happy to see his daughter's beautiful smile.

"I'm fine. Don't get worried about my well being. Just focus on getting well, okay?" she patted his head.

"Okay, small mummy," he smiled.

Kate helped her father up. She feed him and ensured he was comfortable and fine.

"I will be on my way to work now. Papa, be strong. Don't worry, I will get enough money to pay your hospital bills," Kate assured her father, and herself.

She was about to leave when a nurse came to check on her father.

"The doctor said to see him before leaving," the nurse said.

"Okay," she nodded towards the nurse.

She kissed her father and hurriedly left to see the doctor.

"Good morning, doctor," Kate smiled.

"Morning, Miss Kate. I called you here to inform you of your father's health. His condition is getting worse and I'm afraid if we don't transfer him to a specialised hospital, we might lose him," the doctor said.

Kate sighed. She knew transferring her father wasn't an issue but she doesn't have enough money. She hasn't even paid the present hospital's bills.

Swallowing, "How much is needed for the transfer?" she questioned.

"Here is a list of the bills to be paid for a successful transfer," the doctor handed a file to her.

She glanced through it. The total amount required was one million dollars.

"Also, you can pay the money only twice," the doctor said.

Kate just sat dumb on the chair. She didn't even know where she could get such amount of money. Her account balance is on red. If she works morning, afternoon and night for ten years, she still won't be able to foot such bill. Only miracle can save her.

Checking the time, Kate realised she was almost getting late for work.

"I will get back to you, doc," she said.

"Alright. Please make it soon as possibly as you can," he said.

Mrs Smith walked into her boutique. Her workers bowed as she walked by arrogantly. She got to her office.

"Bring me my usual," she said to her assistant.

Mia, her assistant, quickly rushed to get her usual.

"Doesn't she get tired of cookie and coke every morning? No wonder she is becoming fat," Mia wondered.

She quickly went to deliver the cookie and coke because she knew any delay can cause an all-day rants to her.

"What pending delivery do we have?" Mrs Smith asked.

"Four pending deliveries ma," Mia responded.

"Okay. The one for the Wells, you can cancel it. The remaining three can be sent."

"Okay ma but Mrs Sydney hasn't paid her delivery fee. She only paid for the goods she purchased."

"Yeah. That is true. I told her not to pay for the delivery"

'Then you should have informed me,' Mia thought.

"Okay ma," Mia bowed and went back to her work.

Mrs Smith brought out her phone and went on her social media. She began a live video.

"Hello people! It's Glamorous Boutique again. Are you stuck on what to wear on your date? Or ohhhh, there is a dinner party which you don't know what colour of gown to wear to? Roughly two minutes after she finished her live video, she received a call.
