C9 Chapter Nine

Quinn was waiting at the lobby for Kate. She ran up to her as soon as she sighted her coming.

"Guess what?" Quinn said.

Kate looked confused.

"What am I to guess?"

Quinn hit her by her side, " Don't be a dickhead"

Kate laughed, " Tell me. What gist is on again? Did some couple broke the bed frame while having sex again?"

"You are such a dirty minded person. Work on your guessing ability," Quinn looked as though she would puke anytime.

"Okay. Then maybe, you will be the clean minded person to tell me what is going on," Kate said.

"The hotel now has a new owner," Quinn said.

"What? When did that happened?" Kate was surprised.

"Overnight, of course. These rich people are unpredictable," Quinn nodded.

"They sure are. Well, I don't think that is the full gist. Why are others talking and giggling in low tones?" Kate asked moving her eyes around.

"There is no work today."

Kate's eyes almost goggled out.

"No worries, it won't be deducted from our pay."

Kate put her hand on her chest and heaved a sigh.

"Thank God," she muttered.

"To burst your bubbles," Quinn squealed.

"What bubbles?" Kate had her hand on her waist. She knew how overreactive Quinn can be, sometimes.

"The new owner is visiting this evening," Quinn said.

"I just hope he is nice," Kate said.

"Have you ever come across a nice billionaire?" Quinn sarcastically questioned.

"No," Kate nodded negatively recalling her encounter with Miller.

'Don't even go too far. Mrs Smith is an example' her inner self said.

"Yeah. I heard he is goshly hot looking," Quinn winked.

Now, Kate wondered what was going on in her mind.

"Kate, Mr Mark needs your attention," one of their co-workers said while passing by Quinn and Kate.

"Okay. Thanks," Kate smiled at her. She faced her friend, "Gotta go. I will see you around," she went to Mr Mark's office.

When Miller woke up, he was reluctant to go out of bed. His phone rang.

"Damn this phone!" he cursed as he stretched to pick it on the drawer.

"Good morning sir. Are you ready? We have a lot of meeting to attend to today," Peter said over the phone.

"The goods from yesterday?" he enquired.

"It has been released," Peter replied.

"Cancel any meeting scheduled for after lunch," he ordered.

"Okay sir," Peter said already disposing his order.

"Come pick me at thirty minutes past nine," he said.

"The first meeting begins at nine," Peter said hiding his frustration.

He regrets working with this lazy bun of a boss.

"If they can't wait till ten, cancel the meeting and future ones too," he said and hung up.

He rolled on the bed and placed the pillow on his head.

Peter threw the mug on his table away in frustration. He has given so many investors different excuse such that he is out of excuses. His phone rang for the hundredth time again this morning all from the same person. He composed himself and picked the call.

"Mr Lim, good morning," he said.

"I'm tired of exchanging good morning with you for the millionth time. Where is your boss?" Mr Lim thundered with his baritone voice. Peter was sure he will have his index finger shaking in the air.

"He is down with headache but be said to be available for the meeting by ten," Peter said between his teeth.

"Another lame excuse?" Mr Lim said.

Peter just held his silence.

"If by ten he isn't here, I will never ever think of working with you guys. You are lazy buns. I wonder how you were able to get to where you are now," Mr Lim ranted before ending the call.

Peter heaved a sigh. A sigh not of relief but frustration.

He began to make adjustments in the other meeting of the day.

Being Miller's assistant is a lot to handle.

Miller got to the meeting venue at ten minutes past ten. Mr Lim was already fuming on his chair. If fuming can make someone pump, Mr Lim would be floating in the air by now.

Miller entered leisurely as if the world is not to care.

"Good morning, Mr Lim," he smiled as he put his hand forward for a handshake.

Grumpy, Mr Lim shook his hand.

"We should get to business," Mr Lim said.

"I intended to show my hospitality side but since you insist on business first. What will be my benefits in this combo?" Miller asked picking his words one after the other.

"A fifty fifty share," Mr Lim responded.

"What about the name of the organisation?"

"Since it's my idea, I will decide the name. You will help to promote the organisation."

"Your offer is lame."

Mr Lim was left mouth agape.

"What is your proposal?" Mr Lim finally recovered from his surprise.

"I will take sixty and you take forty percent of the profit maximisation. The extra ten percent I added to my share is for the advertisement."

"What about fifty-five to forty-five?"

"Please make your decision quickly. I've a lot of things to address today and I'm already tired," he yawned then put forward his leg as he leaned inwards on the chair he was sitting on.

Mr Lim thought for sometime before agreeing with Miller's proposal.

"The project can commence," Miller said shaking hands with Mr Lim.

The remaining meetings of the day was a successful ones. All deals were sealed.

"What is next on today's schedule?" Miller asked wrapping his hand around Peter's neck like a friend will do.

Peter froze at the gesture but he quickly recover and checked the schedule.

"A lunch at the new hotel," Peter said.

"Okay. Make a call to the hotel," he said letting go of Peter.

Peter let out a breathe he didn't know he was holding.

Mr Mark was sorting out from files when Kate got his office.

"Good morning sir," Kate bowed and smiled.

"Morning. How are you? Hope you feel better?" he replied.

"Yes sir. It was a minor accident," she smiled.

"Okay. I just wanted to be sure you are good," he said.

"Thanks sir," she bowed.

The workers waited all day for the new owner to visit. It was only after lunch was almost over that the new owner arrived.

Kate, being one of the workers assigned to welcome the new owner, froze when she saw and made an eye contact with the new owner.

The new owner was her worst nightmare. He was Miller Chalmers.
