C13 The Complaint of Eve

"Oh, hi, Eve. I was just talking to Sofia about you," greeted Mrs. Daphne, who welcomed Eve into her office.

The woman glanced at the clock on the wall that didn't show the break time for regular employees, so she thought Eve must have an urgent business this time. Was Gery making things difficult for her again? Mrs. Daphne wondered to herself.

"I'm sorry, Ma'am. But I dared to come here again because Mr. Gery is making trouble again. Mr. Gery fired Dave because Dave briefly chatted with me in the corridor. I don't think that's a mistake worth punishing so severely, Ma'am." Eve babbled on what she had come to the room.

Mrs. Daphne seemed surprised to hear the news.

"Oh my! What happens to that child?" Mrs. Daphne complained later. She had to sit back on the sofa to calm herself down because acting out her emotions would not suit her heart health.

With Sofia's entrance, Mrs. Daphne told her assistant to call Gery. However, she was even more surprised to find Sofia's response.

"I'm sorry, Ma'am. But I don't think you need to interfere too much."

Spontaneously Eve and Mrs. Daphne turned with surprised faces toward Sofia.

"And what do you mean, Mrs. Sofia? You forbid Mrs. Daphne to rebuke her grandson's absurd and rash decisions?" Eve protested because she thought it was utterly unreasonable.

"I'm sorry, Miss Eve. But Madame Daphne also needs to give Mr. Gery her trust. It's not always necessary for her to reprimand or interrupt his decisions. Mr. Gery needs to learn to take consequences for his own decisions so that he will think many times in the future if he wants to act rashly. Don't you think like that, Ma'am?" Sofia explained as she asked for her mistress' approval.

Mrs. Daphne, who had understood the signal given by Sofia that they needed to do so, finally answered while nodding her head. After all, the reason given by Sofia was valid. Gery must indeed be in a condition where he might regret her decision so that in the future, he will think long and not just follow his emotions and temperament in making decisions.

"You're right, Sofia. We'll see how my grandson copes with the problems arising if Dave is fired. He must be in an uproar with new assistants. Does he think it's easy to find an assistant that quickly? Gosh! I can't imagine what's going through his mind." Mrs. Daphne was now shaking her head in wonder.

But she had already drawn her conclusions. It was clear that Gery was feeling jealous of Dave and that the man's closeness to Eve had made Gery angry and fired Dave on the spot.

Eve was stunned listening to the conversation between the two women before her. They casually arranged a life lesson for Gery without caring about the fate of the innocent Dave, who had to accept the injustice.

"But what about Dave's fate, Ma'am? You can't just forget about him, either. After all, his performance has been good, right? Then if just to teach Mr. Gery a life lesson, he has to be sacrificed just like that, I don't think it's fair anymore for him!" Eve protested loudly.

Mrs. Daphne now looked at the brave girl before her. Her gaze was assessing, considering whether Eve's defense of Dave was excessive because something was happening between them or purely out of solidarity with fellow employees.

"Take it easy, Miss Eve. We'll find Dave a job in another division. He won't be dismissed so easily. Vinestra needs people like him. We're even considering the possibility that Mr. Gery might reconsider his decision one day. Dave might be brought back as an assistant again. Because we know very well that finding a suitable assistant is not that easy," Sofia soothed Eve.

Mrs. Daphne again agreed with Sofia's opinion. The wealthy woman nodded while her eyes were still probing Eve. It didn't seem possible for Eve to have a crush on Dave.

Yes, her demeanor was different. She was old enough to realize the look of love and admiration or just a friend in the eyes of ordinary girls. Well, Eve wasn't one of those girls, though. Gery is known to be rigid towards other girls besides his ex-girlfriend, immediately melted. However, the attitude shown by the grandson is precisely the opposite. Gery is strange; Mrs. Daphne's mind regrets her grandson's attitude.

"Very well then, Ma'am. I apologize again for my rudeness," Eve said with a relieved face. Of course, she was happy because the important thing was that Dave didn't get fired. Whatever division he would like to work in, at least he still had a job at Vinestra.

"That's okay, Miss Eve. I think you have to defend colleagues who are mistreated. After all, I know there must be some guilt in your heart if Dave gets fired just for being close to you, right?" guessed Madam Daphne later.

"Yes, Ma'am. I would feel terrible for Dave," Eve replied, looking red-faced at being caught.

"Then you'll have to excuse me, Ma'am, Mrs. Sofia," Eve said as she retreated after silence fell in the room as no one spoke anymore.

Eve then walked out and closed the door again. Greeted by a questioning look on Dave's face, Eve informed him that he might be transferred to another division in Vinestra.

"The important thing is not to get fired, right, Dave?" Eve said.

Dave let out a long sigh of relief at the news. Yes, it was up to him where he would work; the important thing was that he still had a job.

"Oh, it would be nice if I was transferred to the marketing department," Dave joked as they walked hand in hand back to their respective rooms.

Eve still needs to respond. She didn't care. Eve was just thinking about what else Gery would do to disturb her peace at Vinestra if he found out that Eve had again complained about Dave's problems to Mrs. Daphne. Yes, she knew that her actions would have repercussions for her fate in the company. But the thing was, he just couldn't stand by and let his friend be mistreated like that.

Meanwhile, in Mrs. Daphne's room, two women were discussing the phenomenon that had just occurred.

"You see, Sofia. It seems that Gery is interested in Eve, don't you think?"

"That's right, Ma'am. There's no doubt about that. It's just that Mr. Gery is taking it the wrong way. He is making things that will cause resentment in Miss Eve," Sofia replied analytically.

"My grandson is so handsome but not so good at how to seduce women, tsk. Do I have to teach him that too?"
