C15 The Approachment

"Good afternoon Eve. Please take a seat. I've been waiting for you," Mrs. Daphne replied.

Eve drew her lips into a smile despite the pounding in her chest, wondering what Mrs. Daphne had for her that day.

She then sat before the Madame, trying to make herself comfortable. Sofia soon returned with a tray of cold drinks for her.

"Thank you very much, Mrs. Sofia," Eve said as she sipped her drink. It was enough to cool her throat and hopefully cool her down. God, next time she would have to thank Sofia specifically because the woman often saved her from uncomfortable moments without even being asked.

A moment of silence reigned. Mrs. Daphne seemed to wait until Eve had finished her cold drink, and then she spoke up.

"Are you busy in your division, Eve?" the Madam asked to start the conversation.

"Yeah, quite a lot, Ma'am. Mrs. Jenni has given me a lot of assignments since day one, and I haven't even touched some of the files because there are so many, hehe." Eve was immediately provoked to vent about her boss's behavior, which, although she tried to understand at first, over time, Eve also got tired of being burdened with seemingly endless work.

"Is that so? Jenni is a perfectionist as far as I know, but she's pretty nice to you, right?" asked Mrs. Daphne again.

"Yes, Ma'am. Mrs. Jenni is very kind, apart from being overly demanding," Eve replied cautiously. She watched Mrs. Daphne's expression, wondering if she was bothered by her complaint or just taking it in stride.

"Then it's quite a coincidence that if you're not comfortable working in her division, then--"

"Oh, no, Ma'am. I was just making a small complaint. I'm not saying I'm uncomfortable," Eve interrupted, fearing that she would be fired for complaining about her job.

"But you did say that Jenni has too much on your plate, right?"

"Yes, but I'm willing to do it, Ma'am. Please don't fire me," Eve begged as she stood up and bowed her body pleadingly.

"Oh, take it easy, Eve. I had told you that no one would fire you, not even Gery, right? You have to trust me because I'm still in charge here." Mrs. Daphne smiled soothingly.

"Gosh, do you think I called you here because I want to fire you?" asked Mrs. Daphne again since she didn't hear Eve's response.

"I'm sorry, but actually, I don't know what you called me here for, Ma'am," Eve replied matter-of-factly. But she was relieved when she heard Madame Daphne's words that she would not be fired. She felt her chest loosen up.

"Instead, I'm going to move your position from where you are now to where Dave left off," the Madam said, her eyes watching her guest intently.

Hearing that, of course, Eve was flabbergasted. Her round eyes are more rounded as they widen.

"Wh-what, Madam? Taking Dave's place? Do you mean being Mr. Gery's assistant?" asked Eve without being able to hide her maximum level of surprise.

"Yes, Eve. The position is currently vacant, and difficulty a hard time making an impromptu selection to find a replacement. We think you're competent enough to take the position and that way you'll help us by saving time. Because Gery's job can't wait that long for a new assistant," Mrs. Daphne makes Eve disbelieve.

"No way, Ma'am. There's no way I could--"

"What's impossible, Eve? The job will be much simpler than the job given by Jenni, you know? And you only need to prepare everything Gery needs in the office, from setting up meeting agendas and materials for meetings if he has to present," interrupted Mrs. Daphne, who seemed not to want to hear any rejection from Eve.

"But so sorry, Ma'am. I can't work with someone like Mr. Gery. We're even enemies, and I think we'll get into even more fights if we're paired up in the same job like that. Please, Madam, don't let me--" Eve continued to plead even though Madam Daphne would not comply this time.

Now Sofia also persuaded Eve.

"But Dave was transferred because of you, Eve? So now please help us with the vacant position. Gery will be overwhelmed with his job if there is no immediate replacement for Dave. And we both agree that you can do it."

"Oh my God ...." Eve complained softly. Her shoulders seemed to slump in defeat as she could no longer argue with her boss's seemingly unanimous decision.

"Wait until Mr. Gery himself decides if he wants to have an assistant like me, Ma'am. I bet he will also strongly reject," Eve said as her mind revived the spirit to thwart her mutation plan.

"You're wrong. We talked to Gery first, and he couldn't reject." Mrs. Daphne responded with a triumphant smile. She was indeed convinced that her decision this time was the best. Yes, by bringing the two of that young couple closer together, she was sure that Gery and Eve would eventually be attracted to each other and be able to establish a relationship.

Eve was again stunned to hear that. Did Gery, not mind? Or did he resist, but then her grandmother couldn't help it?

"Sofia will take you to Dave's former room. It's in Gery's room. Get there quickly, Eve. And do everything as well as you can, okay? Gery is very appreciative of people's work, so I'm sure after seeing your good performance, his view of you will change a lot, okay?" Madame Daphne gave orders and advice to the young girl in front of her.

Poor Eve. The girl was now trudging next to Sofia toward Gery's room, where she was about to meet her subsequent fate, which was sure to be far worse than the last. She now regrets complaining about the pile of documents Mrs. Jenni gave her. She would have preferred to be there better than stuck in the same room with that cold and arrogant man, Gery! Oh, what a bad luck!

"I can always resign and transfer back if I can't bear to be around him, right, Mrs. Sofia?" Eve asked just before they reached the door of the CEO's office.

"Haha, why? I'm sure you'll enjoy your future job, Eve. Just try to enjoy it. I think it's a perfect fit for you, much more than you might expect, trust me," Sofia coaxed comfortingly and supported the girl.

Eve shook her head uncertainly. And the door was already being knocked on by Sofia. The deep, heavy voice of the man she hated called out for them to come in.

"Okay, welcome to hell, Eve," Eve said softly, only heard by her ears.
