C17 So Nervous

In the afternoon before work, Mrs. Daphne deliberately went to Eve's room to inform her directly of the invitation.

"Eve, can you come to our residence tonight?" asked Madame Daphne after being in the small room where Eve worked.

"Wh-what, Madam? To Madame's residence? But what for?" asked Eve, surprised at the sudden invitation. Come on, going to Gery's house, boss she hated? Impossible!

"I invited you to have dinner with us, me and Gery. We need to get to know each other better so we can work together better," Mrs. Daphne replied, accompanied by Sofia. Sofia didn't say anything this time. But it was evident that she was one of the initiators of Madame Daphne's plan.

Eve's brain immediately thought about what excuse she could use to refuse the invitation. A refusal that wouldn't offend the boss who had helped her so much, of course. But not a single reason came to mind. Unusually, her brain felt suddenly dull this time, and she could not come up with any ideas.

"I'll take your residence as approval, okay? At seven in the evening, our family's driver will pick you up at your home address. Be prepared, okay?" As she said that, Madame Daphne flashed her motherly smile.

Eve struggled to refuse but still couldn't find the right words. Finally, she just nodded her head very reluctantly. There was no way Eve could refuse the kind lady's request, right? However, she had to endure the annoyance throughout dinner because she had to be back in the same room with Gery even though it was in a different location.

That night, she shocked the whole house with her frustration. Her mom and dad were shocked by Eve's sudden behavior after coming home from work.

"What's wrong with you, Eve? Since you've been working, you seem to be acting increasingly strange," her mother commented, looking concerned at her daughter.

Eve had indeed told her mother about her problems with Gery. However, her mother had no idea that the problem was still lingering. All she noticed was that her daughter often seemed to come home exhausted with a seemingly heavy load of thoughts.

"I'm confused, Mom. Mrs. Daphne has invited me to her house for dinner tonight at seven. But the thing is, I'm not sure I can stand having dinner at the same table as that arrogant Gery!" Eve finally told her heart out.

"You said Madame Daphne is so kind, right? Then you must repay her hospitality. Don't let your grudge against Mr. Gery make you behave unpleasantly towards Madame Daphne. Put your problems aside, Eve." Mrs. Kate advised her daughter.

"Oh my, Mom. You don't know how bad Gery is! You'd dislike him as much as I do if you knew him. He's arrogant, haughty, and pretentious, really!" Eve again complained about the man, who was none other than her boss.

Mrs. Kate seemed to chuckle, amused. She suddenly remembers her younger days when she talked about the bad guys who approached her even though she never responded to them. Eve was the same. The girl who was often the target of her male friends always found the slightest flaw in the creatures of the opposite sex, which eventually made her avoid them all.

"How come you're laughing? Where's the punchline?" Eve pursed her lips as if she didn't like being laughed at by her mother. She told her story to get advice or solutions, not to be laughed at! Oh my!

"Try it first, Eve. You can talk to Mrs. Daphne later. Don't take Gery's existence to heart even though you still have to be polite because he is your boss at the office," Mrs. Kate continued to advise.

Finally, Eve could only nod her head in resignation. Now, she went into the room to start preparing. And that's when she suddenly became confused about what clothes to wear and which bag and shoe model.

Mrs. Kate, who knew that her daughter was still not done with her problem, deliberately followed her into the room. And, of course, as a mother, she knew what problems her only daughter was facing.

"You will look wonderful in clothes that you are comfortable in, Eve. That's all. Don't demand that you change to suit other people's tastes. Look the way you are; that will reveal your inner beauty fully. Because a woman will look stunning only when she is comfortable and confident and satisfied with herself, you know that, right?" Mrs. Kate said while looking at her daughter's face, who was now standing confused in front of her extensive wardrobe.

Eve, who had just become aware of her mother's presence, was slightly surprised and answered quickly, "No, Mom. Who would be nervous? And I'm not trying to suit Gery's taste either; how could I be!"

Mrs. Kate chuckled amusedly, "Geez, Eve. I didn't even mention Gery at all. You said you just wanted to focus on Mrs. Daphne, right? Why is it obvious from your behavior that you're worried about what Gery will think of you? Hey, what's wrong with my daughter?"

A blush then filled Eve's face. She was so embarrassed to be caught by her mother that she was nervous about meeting Gery at her house at the moment of the dinner invitation.

"Ah, Mom. How could that be? Why would I worry about his opinion? He probably wouldn't even want to be at the same table with me!" argued Eve, who insisted on covering her heart.

"Oh yeah? That's good, then. That means you don't have to sit in front of your closet and worry about choosing clothes, right?" snickered Mrs. Kate as she laughed again.

Eve immediately grabbed a simple blue colored dress at the front of her closet to prove to her mother that she wasn't that nervous.

Mrs. Kate smiled at her daughter's hilarious behavior, walked over to Eve, and stroked the girl's hair.

"All the clothes in that closet are worth wearing by you anyway, Eve. You'll still look stunningly beautiful anytime and anywhere, okay?" her mother praised affectionately.

Eve rolled her eyes in disgust, "Yeah, that's because I'm your daughter, Mom!"

Eve knew she was beautiful, but there seemed to be a problem with Gery's taste. She immediately remembered the man's response at the beach during their chaotic first meeting. Gery didn't see her as a woman at all! Yes, he wasn't interested in her at all!
