C21 A Terrific Partner

"Don't just say you're close to my grandma; you can do whatever you want here. Get on with your work!" Gery reprimanded Eve, who was chatting briefly with a friend in the office corridor.

Eve was wide-eyed with embarrassment at being reprimanded in front of other employees. She was just asking about a file she needed to support her work. However, when she denied that, he could not because after reprimanding Eve arbitrarily earlier, Gery immediately walked away, leaving Eve with a red face that was half embarrassed and half angry.

"I want to beat him up!" Eve cursed.

Her coworker giggled, "Do you dare Mr. Gery?" she sneered.

"Why be afraid of such an arrogant man like that! I'm not afraid as long as I don't do anything wrong," Eve replied firmly.

"Well, I also know you're close to Mrs. Daphne. Of course, you're brave. Your protector is amazing, haha." Again, her companion sneered.

Eve then rolled her eyes and chose not to continue arguing with her coworker. She grabbed the file she had requested earlier. She returned to her small workspace to the overwhelming task Gery kept giving her.

"I'll prove my work performance is all done and okay," she determined.

Next little time, Gery called her on the office's parallel phone and told her to prepare to accompany him to the presentation. Eve was quite nervous because it was her first time attending Gery to present in front of all the Vinestra managers in the meeting room.

"Dave said I will be able to handle everything as long as my data is complete; calm down, Eve," she consoled herself.

She quickly got ready and made sure the files they would present later were ready and complete on the flash disc she was carrying. In addition, she also brought the physical files to be distributed to all meeting participants. They would listen to everything Gery said and discuss whether they would find there.

"Don't cause any trouble. Otherwise, you'll know the consequences!" threatened Gery as they walked into the meeting room.

Hearing that Eve became even more nervous. Then, she protested against Gery's behavior, which she thought was unwise to intimidate his assistant when she worried about her first experience job.

"Aren't there any words of support that sound more comfortable to the ear than what you just said, Sir?" she sneered sarcastically.

"Why would I support you? We didn't have a good relationship from the beginning, right? You're the one who desperately wants to be my assistant! I'd rather work alone!" Gery said coldly.

"Geez, a man with no empathy at all!" Eve said in a very annoyed tone.

Their conversation stopped because they had arrived in front of the meeting room. Before entering, Eve took a deep breath to calm herself down. And she calmed down even more when she saw that Mrs. Daphne and Sofia were also there. Oh, thank Godness, she said silently.

In fact, from the tail of her eyes, she could see Sofia snapping her fingers and winking one eye in support of Eve. Eve became more confident.

And so the meeting began. Eve did everything almost perfectly. She could provide what Gery requested during the meeting on time and prepared all the data needed in the discussion to avoid complications.

"Wow, Eve. You did a great job!" praised Mrs. Daphne in a severe tone when she joined Gery in the room with Eve and Sofia.

"Right, Gery? You must admit that Eve is amazing even though this is her first time." Mrs. Daphne said to Gery instead.

Gery did not reply. He sat in his chair with an annoyed heart because he didn't get a chance to scold Eve. After all, the girl did her job well. Oh, shit!

"Grandma, everyone can do such trivial work. Gery's presentation doesn't even get any praise, eh?" demanded the man to the grandmother, who, in his opinion, was getting more and more favoritism and always praised Eve instead of her grandson.

"Oh, of course not. It should take a lot of experience and practice to be that good. And whether you admit it or not, Eve is reliable. Wasn't it a mistake when I appointed her as Dave's replacement last time?" Still, Mrs. Daphne demanded a confession from her grandson.

Eve listened with her nose in the air with pride and satisfaction. She was satisfied that she had managed to handle her first job so well and also happy to see Gery, who was clueless because, again, the man was forced to acknowledge Eve's greatness even though he was unwilling to say it directly.

"Heh! Don't be so big-headed! Do your next assignment! Remember, you're still an intern, and if you make any mistakes, I won't hesitate to fire you!" Gery now threw another threat at Eve.

Mrs. Daphne was about to scold Gery before seeing the code from Sofia to remain silent first.

"Yes, Sir. Then I'll take my leave. Excuse me, Mrs. Daphne, Ms. Sofia," Eve excused herself while in her heart, she wanted to scold Gery. Unfortunately, the annoying man was the boss there. It was bad luck to be subordinate to such an asshole boss.

After Eve left, Mrs. Daphne reprimanded her grandson.

"Don't be too hard on her, Gery. You have to admit that she's terrific."

"What's terrific? You're the one who's defending her too much. You seem to have fallen for that little girl's tricks!" Gery cursed in annoyance again.

"What trick? You're making this up, Gery! I'm not defending her. I'm speaking from facts," Mrs. Daphne said later.

"But don't praise her too much; she'll get big-headed. Especially since she always dares to go against me. What a bad employee with no rules!" cursed Gery.

"Well, I guess she's not fit to be your employee, Gery." Mrs. Daphne finally concluded.

Hearing that, Gery looked enthusiastic. "Well, Grandma finally came to senses, right?"

"Yes, she doesn't deserve to be your employee. She's much more suitable to be your couple." Mrs. Daphne's words immediately made Gery, who was sipping coffee at his desk, choke until he coughed severely.

Sofia rushed over to help pat the CEO on the back to relieve his gagging.

After Gery got over the throat problem, he glared at his grandmother.

"Oh my! Take it easy on the drink, Gery. It's like you just heard that New York is moving into space!" scolded Mrs. Daphne, shaking her head.

"What you just said is far more absurd than that, Grandma! There's no way she's my couple. Big No Way! Never!" Gery said while scowling.

"Oh, come on. Don't hate that girl so much like that. Don't you remember that there's a wise sentence that you'll end up with what you avoid the most," Mrs. Daphne continued, unconcerned about her grandson's loud interruption.

"Nonsense! No way!"
