C27 The Violence

An angry Dave was still causing trouble the next day. When he saw Eve eating lunch in her room alone because she was working on an assignment given by Gery, Dave deliberately entered without permission and closed the door behind him.

Eve, who was munching on her food, stopped what she was doing for a moment and gave him a disapproving look.

"Can't you use some manners, please? Knock on the door first if you want to come in!" she scolded sarcastically.

"I want to talk to you, Eve," Dave snapped, sitting down in front of Eve's table without prompting.

"Can't you see I'm eating?" Still sarcastic, Eve's voice sounded even more annoyed.

"I'll wait for you," Dave said irresistibly.

Eve snorted and continued eating without caring about the man who had been irritating her so much lately. Dave waited for a while because Eve didn't even want to speed up her eating. The girl burned him even more because while eating, she still took the time to flip through her cell phone.

"You don't appreciate me, do you?" growled Dave. He stood up and kicked Eve's table, which made Eve stand up too.

"Why would I respect someone who just calls me a cheap girl for no good reason like yesterday, huh?" Eve replied, equally furious. The two were now locked in a glare, and Dave pushed Eve's body to the wall in a fit of rage.

"Oh, how rude of you!" It was Eve's turn to push Dave's body; although he seemed to be tall and thin, Eve's strength was nothing compared to the man.

"What's going on here?" Gery's booming voice broke the tense atmosphere. Spontaneously, Eve, who was already feeling insecure and a little scared of Dave, moved next to Gery. Gery was also annoying, but at least her boss never intimidated her with violence like Dave did just now.

"Just a little misunderstanding, Sir. Please come out, Mr. Dave." Eve replied in a formal tone so that Gery wouldn't find out what happened between them. But it was too late. Gery saw what happened before from Eve's front door, which had a little transparent glass in the middle.

"What are you doing pushing Eve against the wall like that, Dave? Do you have a problem with her?" Gery directly directed the question to Dave without caring about Eve's bragging.

Dave seemed to have trouble gulping down his saliva. Maybe he was surprised and didn't think the boss would catch his actions. He certainly didn't want to get into more trouble at Vinestra after the demotion scene.

"I ... we were ...."

"Just a misunderstanding, Sir. Please go back to your room, Mr. Dave," Eve interrupted again because she felt that things would get worse if Gery interfered. She wanted to avoid mixing personal matters with work matters.

"Oh, you can't. Explain what happened first! What are you two fighting about?" Gery pressed Dave again. His gaze pierced right into Dave's brown eyes, which were now wide with fear.

"I'm sorry, Sir. It's nothing. I'll be going back to my room soon because break time is about to expire," Dave replied, then fixed his shirt and was about to walk out before Gery's burly arm stopped him.

"Don't repeat being rude to Eve! I don't want any violence like that to happen in this office, especially with my internal employees! Did you hear that?"

"Yes, Sir," Dave replied shortly. Gery released his grip so Dave could walk away.

"Are you okay?" asked Gery to Eve as Dave left.

"I'm fine, Sir. I appreciate your help, thank you," Eve said with a long, relieved sigh.

"And you don't want to talk about what made Dave act so rude to you? I've never seen Dave out of control like that before," Gery asked, still probingly.

Eve shook her head slowly. "Nothing, Sir. We just had a little misunderstanding. Isn't that common in the world of working partners?"

Gery snorted in annoyance. "Ish, feeling it's useless to help you!" Gery said as he turned and strode out of the cramped room where Eve worked—Eve just rolled her eyes in disgust. She was astonished by the attitude of the two men in her workplace.

Gery didn't like being in that room. There was a slightly larger room right next to his room. But to make Eve feel unpleasant, he deliberately told Eve to occupy that room only. Let the girl know the taste, he thought.

"I've helped you, but that's the attitude. It's just annoying!" Gery grumbled until she reached Mrs. Daphne's room.

"Gery, why such a frown on your face? Did you not sleep well last night?" asked Mrs. Daphne, who saw her grandson's face.

"Oh, no, Oma. Just take it easy. It's just the effect of a lot of work, dizziness." Gery replied as he looked at his reflection in the mirror at the sink in the center of the room.

There, he looked at his handsome face. He said there was no impression of wrinkles that his grandmother said just now.

"Where is the wrinkle, Grandma? I'm still so handsome," he asked, turning his head to the right and left as if he were looking for something strange on his face.

"Oh, yeah, you are handsome. But where are your candidates? Show them to me. You're old enough not to have a partner yet. You still claim to be handsome; what is it?" Mrs. Daphne finally took the opportunity to question her grandson again about his future wife. It was just the right atmosphere.

"Oh my. It's that again! I'm tired of talking about it. I already told you that I would wait for Cheryl. She'll come back for sure!" Gery again mentioned the reason why he has never been in a relationship with any girl until now. His heart has been given to his beloved one, who is now on the other side of the world.

"Cheryl again, Cheryl again. I am also tired of hearing that name since you graduated from college; how long have we been waiting for her, Gery? How long do you want to wait? Until you turn gray? Or until I am no longer in this world?" Mrs. Daphne was so annoyed that she spoke out of turn.

Yes, she did get annoyed every time Gery mentioned that name. The name of the girl who had stolen Gery's heart since high school but then left Gery adrift in waiting until he was supposed to get married and have children.

According to her, Cheryl was irresponsible for continuously making Gery wait with false hopes.

"Grandma! Why are you talking like that? You are a healthy eater and have never missed a health check-up, so you must be sure that you will never--"

"Everyone dies, Gery. And I have to see you get married before that happens ...."
