C9 The Identity of Eve

Sofia handed over the documents from her investigation into Eve the following day. That is a thick file containing her data, educational history, the results of a psychological interview from the Vinestra company, and other data that Sofia's people had searched for and observed.

Mrs. Daphne, who had just finished her morning tea, immediately received and examined the file sheet by sheet. Several times she seemed to chuckle or clear her throat a little, but her eyes remained focused as if she didn't want to miss anything.

"Excellent! I knew Eve was a pretty special girl. Isn't that right, Sofia?" commented Mrs. Daphne after examining the file.

"That's right, Ma’am. There are hardly any blemishes in her record of achievements and grade results during her education. Also, her external and family demeanor is quite good and harmonious. As for her social life, she often associates with college friends who communicate often and go on trips or vacations together." Sofia mentioned the things she admired in Eve.

"Continue your analysis," Mrs. Daphne ordered again. She liked the summary Sofia had just given and still wanted to know more about her assistant's overall opinion of Eve.

"Regarding her economic life, their family is quite well-off even though her father is a regular company employee and her mother doesn't work. They seem to be a good family that manages their finances so they don't get into trouble," Sofia continued.

"What caught my attention was how brave she was when she came straight to me to resolve her issues with Gery. That's pretty fantastic." As she thought the same thing, Mrs. Daphne added, which Sofia immediately agreed with.

"That's right, Ma'am. Her personality is interesting, brave, and decisive. She is desperate to fight for her rights even against her boss."

"So... are we have the same mind again this time, Sofia?" asked Madame Daphne. The old lady had always engaged Sofia in discussions. The assistant was no longer considered just an assistant but also a sister with whom she shared her grievances and asked for opinions.

"Forgive me, Madam. But it's not in my capacity to--"

"Oh, don't be so polite, Sofia. You know very well that I always value your opinion. Tell me your conclusions!" ordered Madame Daphne impatiently. Indeed, the fact that Eve was almost perfect made her impatient to carry out the next plan.

Forced like that, Sofia finally ventured to answer, "In my opinion... Miss Eve is a suitable candidate to be Mr. Gery's couple, Ma'am."

"Bingo! That's what I thought, Sofia. That's right, isn't it? The two of us have always agreed."

Sofia just bowed her head in disbelief. She felt terrible that her boss was so kind to her. The generous allowance and various privileges given to her family made Sofia think that even her long service could not compensate for her employer's kindness.

Sofia packs the tea utensils on the table to escape her blushing face and takes them to the small pantry at the back. Office assistants would clean that room during the afternoon break when Mrs. Daphne usually left the room to have lunch with her grandson or go home when her body felt tired.

"Then we should quickly organize the next plan, Sofia. After seeing her personality, I think it will be difficult to persuade Eve to have a relationship with Gery since they both have private problems. God, I don't know what my grandson is thinking. How could he choose to have problems with her future soul mate? Oh my!" Madam Daphne was now rambling at length about the new problem.

"It's just the usual youthful troubles, ma'am," Sofia commented as she couldn't help but smile a little remembering what happened between the CEO and the new intern yesterday. A feud that the new intern eventually won with the help of the CEO's grandmother!

Mrs. Daphne glanced at Sofia with a reprimanding look. "It's like you don't know Gery so well. He will keep trying to make trouble with that girl until Eve is completely fired. Keep an eye on her, Sofia. Don't let my careless grandson make a big deal out of it."

"Yes, ma'am." Sofia bowed again while making a note to send someone to watch over Gery to carry out the order from Madam Daphne just now. Yes, Sofia was indeed given the power to command several people from the Vinestra Group specifically to carry out the mission of Madame Daphne. She was the right hand of the respected Madam in the company.

"Then all I have to do is tell Gery and approach Eve personally. I think if it's a professional matter, Eve won't do what I will ask of her later," said Madame Daphne thoughtfully.

Sofia herself had no idea about that either. Dealing with two young people who are still in an unstable period and whose egos are both high is not an easy thing, with the background of hostility that has already occurred between both of them.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door from outside. Sofia hurriedly stepped towards the door and opened it. Gery's figure immediately burst in, regardless of Sofia. It seems that the man's face is not in a good mood. Sofia immediately followed Gery's steps because she didn't want anything to happen between the man and Madame Daphne.

"Grandma! What is that on my desk? Why did you put such pink flowers there? Are you trying to make fun of me?" protested Gery with a look of displeasure.

"Oh my, Gery, it's just a small gift from your grandma. Why are you throwing such a tantrum?" Upon finding her gift on the table, Mrs. Daphne had expected her grandson to storm into her room.

"That little gift that embarrassed me in front of all my colleagues, is it?" asked Gery sarcastically.

"That pink flower isn't embarrassing. Isn't that so pretty? That flower is a tease from me since you don't send me flowers like you used to. Look at that vase. Usually, every time before the flowers wilt, you give me a new one. But where? Sofia had to throw them away and empty the vase because I was waiting for my grandson to buy them." Madame Daphne now made a sulking face.

Gery gasped instantly. He looked at the large flower vase in the corner of the room that he had promised to provide replacement flowers for every so often. His grandma's beloved carved vase that Gery's late mother had bought for her when she traveled to a tourist city abroad.

"Oh my, forgive me, Grandma. I'll buy it for you this afternoon," Gery replied with a face full of guilt. He thought her grandma was teasing him by sending pink roses, and it was a sign to make a promise that he had forgotten herself.

"Never mind, if you're busy, I'll tell Sofia to give them to you later. In exchange, tonight we have dinner together at home, Gery. Did you hear that? I have something to talk about. It's important!"

When she said the critical order, Gery was suddenly suspicious to see the glint in her grandmother's eyes. What else was her favorite old grandma planning this time?
