C3 She reached out, asking him for money.
Jisoo sat on the sofa, and Reginald's captivating eyes narrowed for a moment.
Utterly displeased, he asked, "Why didn't you open the door?"
Because I have no strength. Jisoo silently thought. But she didn't explain, just shook her head.
Because she knew very well that any explanation she gave would be seen as an excuse in his eyes!
When someone dislikes you, even your breath is wrong.
Feeling uncomfortable, Jisoo directly asked him, "Why did you come here? Didn't you want to avoid seeing me?"
"Humph, do you think I wanted to come?" Reginald openly displayed his aversion to her, staring at her with a cold gaze. "My grandmother asked me to come and see you off on the plane!"
Oh, so that's it. Jisoo's heart had already turned cold; what was she expecting?
"Where's your luggage? Upstairs?" Reginald became a bit impatient. For him, every extra moment spent here, every additional glance at Jisoo, was torture!
Jisoo nodded and then shook her head, "It's upstairs, but I haven't finished packing..."
Originally, she planned to continue packing when she returned last night. But she wasn't feeling well and ended up falling asleep.
"What?" Reginald's face turned even colder upon hearing this. "You laze around all day, and you can't even pack your bags?"
Seeing Jisoo's dumbfounded look, he became even more furious. Was she thinking of lingering and not leaving?
Growling to urge her, "What are you staring at? Hurry up and pack!"
"Oh, okay." Jisoo nodded blankly and hastily went upstairs.
After walking a few steps, she unexpectedly broke out in a cold sweat. Something was wrong. She felt unwell, and as she touched her forehead, it was burning up!
Even the breath she exhaled felt like fire! She had a fever. Probably because of getting caught in the rain yesterday!
Her immediate reaction was to enter the room and grab some cold medicine.
Just as she was about to take it, she abruptly stopped. She was pregnant! She couldn't take this medicine! Whether she would keep this child or not was uncertain, but as long as it was in her belly, she had to take care of it.
"Ugh..." Her stomach was in turmoil again. Jisoo covered her mouth and rushed into the bathroom, throwing up into the toilet. When she stopped, she felt completely drained.
Turning on the tap, she rinsed her mouth, splashed some cold water on her face, attempting to cool down this feverish body.
"Jisoo!" A low, slightly hoarse male voice, extremely impatient. Reginald was waiting for her, and he came up to hurry her along.
Upon entering, he saw that she hadn't finished packing. "Jisoo, where are you? Come out!"
"Here." Jisoo wiped her face and stepped out of the bathroom. Sporting a pale complexion, her voice was barely audible.
"Reginald." Deviating from their usual familiarity, she called him by his full name. "Can I, can I leave a day later?"
She was feeling very uncomfortable now, afraid she might faint on the plane. Alone in a foreign country, that would truly be a desperate situation.
"What's going on?" Reginald frowned, looking alert. "Are you planning some trick again? Did you go to the hospital yesterday, trying to plead with Emily, and when I stopped you, are you trying a different tactic now?"
In his eyes, was she really this unbearable?
"No, it's not like that..." Jisoo looked at him with wide eyes, struggling to hold back tears. "I'm not feeling well. I want to see a doctor."
"That's enough!" Reginald abruptly cut her off.
After carefully examining her face for a moment, he smiled faintly, "Pretending to be sick? Trying this trick again? Do you think I'll fall for it? Even if it's true, how uncomfortable can you be? Leyi lost her child and is lying in the hospital, but you're perfectly fine standing here! Endure it! You won't die!"
Jisoo shuddered, her mouth slightly agape. "I..."
Ignoring her, Reginald walked straight into the closet, taking out a pre-packed suitcase.
"No need to pack the rest. Buy what you need when you get abroad! It's all the Fu family's money anyway. I don't have time to waste with you here!" With that, he carried the suitcase and headed downstairs.
Biting her lip, Jisoo's heart twisted in pain. Tears flowed uncontrollably as she raised her hand, wiping them away haphazardly.
Go. What difference did it make whether she stayed here or went abroad? She was alone now, and no one cared about her grievances, her life or death... At the airport, Reginald didn't accompany Jisoo inside. His assistant, John, handled her paperwork and guided her through security.
"Safe travels, madam." John handed her passport and ticket. "Give a call to the old lady when you arrive, and your living expenses will be sent to you every month."
Jisoo nodded calmly. "I understand. Thank you." Stepping forward, she entered the boarding gate.
A month later. Philadelphia, downtown, in an apartment.
The night was already deep, but Jisoo didn't dare to turn on the lights. She curled up on the bed, making no sound. 'Bang! Bang! Bang!'
The door was pounded loudly, and outside, the middle-aged, chubby landlord shouted, "Asian girl! Are you in there? Your rent is due!"
"I know you're in there! Say something!" Jisoo covered her ears, closing her eyes, silently praying for the landlord to leave. After a long silence, the landlord gave up, "You think you can save some money like this? Sweetheart, don't be naive!"
"Really not in there?"
The landlord muttered to himself, "It's so late, oh, may God bless her."
The knocking ceased, the footsteps gradually faded away, and the landlord left. Jisoo released her hands, exhaling a long breath.
She had evaded another day, but what about tomorrow? What should she do? Retrieving her phone from under the pillow, she scrolled to Eleanor's number.
Having been in Philadelphia for almost a month, her living expenses had yet to arrive. For the past few days, she had been calling Eleanor, but the calls went unanswered.
Taking a deep breath, she pressed the dial button once again. Soon, a female voice came from the other end — "Sorry, the number you've dialed is out of service!" Not again!
Unable to reach Eleanor, who else could she turn to? Only Reginald. After much internal struggle, Jisoo took a deep breath, found his number, and pressed the dial button. Connected!
"Hello." On the other end, a familiar male voice, deep and slightly hoarse, sounded—Reginald! Jisoo nervously felt her mouth go dry. "It's me."
"What do you want?" His words carried obvious impatience. Jisoo hesitated, gritting her teeth. "I, I... I want to find Grandma. I tried calling her, but how come the number doesn't exist?"
"Hmph." Reginald coldly remarked, "What are you looking for Grandma for? You've only been gone for a few days, and you want to pester Grandma, soften her heart, so she'll bring you back?"
"No..." Jisoo hurriedly denied. "No, it's not..."
Reginald couldn't be bothered. "Stop calling Grandma. I changed her number precisely to prevent you from bothering her!"
"!"
Jisoo's mouth hung open, her eyes gradually moistening. She knew he disliked her, but now that she was abroad, wasn't it enough?
He even wanted to cut off her contact with Grandma? She had no family left; Grandma was the only person left in the world who treated her kindly.
"Do you have something to say or not?" Reginald lost his patience. "I sent you abroad to change your bad habits. You're not young anymore; you need to learn to stand on your own, not rely on the family like a parasite! I'm hanging up!"
"Wait, I have something!" Jisoo hastily stopped him, mustering courage. "It's about... living expenses. I haven't received them yet."
