C16 They came prepared

CHAPTER 16

Max ran out of Grayson's room and headed to Charlotte's room.

"How come you noticed she was gone and you didn't send guards after her? She mustn't have gone far" Max yelled and the maid shrunk in fear.

Since this was the first time, Max is losing his cool.

"What are you doing there? Go look for her" Max yelled and the maid ran out of the room in fear.

Max looked around the room. And he opened Charlotte's closet.

"What am I even doing? She didn't have many clothes when she stayed here" Max uttered as he felt a bit foolish.

The maid ran back into the room.

"Why are you back already? Where's Charlotte?" Max asked seriously.

"She's no way to be found, sir. The guards searched everywhere" The maid informed and Mex walked closer to her and grabbed her neck tight.

"I don't go with violence but just pray, you've got nothing to do with this. If I happen to find out you helped her in any way, trust me you won't live to see the next day" Max threatened then left the room.

Max placed a call to Tristan.

"Max, what's going on? I heard something hilarious minutes ago. How's that even possible? Charlotte doesn't know her way around here and why on Earth will she choose to run away on her wedding day?" Tristan threw in so many questions.

"That's exactly why I'm calling you. You have to help me find her. She mustn't have gone that far" Max said anxiously.

"Why do you wish to get her back? This was all our plans in the first place and since nothing's working in our favor, I think it's a good idea that she left on her own" Tristan uttered.

"Is that what you should be saying right now? You think I don't know any of that" Max yelled.

"Why are you raising your voice? You need to relax Max. She's just a maid and nothing more to you. You don't like her so what's going on now?"

Max exhaled deeply before answering Tristan.

"Are you helping me or not?"

"Of course, I will. Don't worry I will send out some of my guards to go after her. Do you think she went back to Grey pack?" Tristan asked.

"She never planned on going back to grey pack so why would she go back now?"

"It can be possible as well. All our attention and focus will be on other packs but she might have gone back to the grey pack" Tristan uttered.

"She might lose her life if she steps foot in the grey pack," Max said seriously.

"It's nothing for you to worry about. Her friend is becoming the Luna soon, I don't think it will be that easy getting rid of her and it's wrong for you to worry about her. This wasn't the plan" Tristan said seriously.

"And who said I'm worried about her? I'm only concerned because I'm not done with her yet so how can she leave as that" Max said seriously then hang up.

"Max" Grayson called as he walked up to Max.

"What are you doing here? You're not supposed to leave your bed" Max nagged and Grayson tapped his shoulders.

"I only got up to get some fresh air. I will return shortly, I was as well looking for you" Grayson said and they head to the open space room where the Alpha meditates.

"I heard, you haven't found her yet. Why do you want her back so badly?" Grayson threw in and Max frowned.

"I placed my everything just to get married to her and I can't let her go so easily. What will the rest of the pack think of me? First I ditched her at the ritual ground and then she ran away. That will tarnish my reputation big time" Max explained.

"You should be happy at least you've gotten her off your chest. Just like you say, it happened for the better and she's off your neck so Charlotte is a lost project. Don't look for her, we don't need her anymore. Looking for her will only worsen things" Grayson said coldly.

"But you wanted me to run after her"

"I suggested so but you declined. It's too late now, let's move on from that hurdle" Grayson said and held his head lightly as he felt a bit dizzy.

"Got it. I will bring Emma to you no matter what it takes" Max assured and Grayson nodded.

"You've been getting petitions lately from the elders and chiefs. Why didn't you say anything?" Grayson asked.

"We've been both occupied with so many things. You probably wouldn't have gotten the time to go through them" Max said.

"When I recover fully, get me all the petitions. I can't look down on the worries of my pack" Grayson said professionally and Max nodded.

Charlotte sneaked into the grey pack. She walked to Kent's favorite spot next to his house.

I'm hoping he arrives quickly. I can't get caught here. Charlotte said in her head worriedly as she looked out for anyone.

"Why are you back? Did your plan of becoming the beta's wife flop?" Kent asked coldly from behind and Charlotte turned around in shock.

"I came to have a word with you," Charlotte said calmly.

"I can see that. Your intentions are written on your face. Aren't you scared I might kill you for sneaking back into the pack you ran away from?" Kent uttered coldly.

"That's the exact look you had on your face when you murdered my family," Charlotte said with a faint smile.

"This is how I always look. Stop wasting my time and tell me exactly why you're here?" Kent asked seriously.

"Why did you spare my life? You killed my whole family but spare me instead why?" Charlotte asked and Kent looked away.

"You came all the way here to ask me that? Are you for real?" Kent scoffed.

"What were your intentions for keeping me alive? Right now, I wish you killed me alongside my family" Charlotte said bitterly.

"How ungrateful! Many begged to live today and you got it without even begging for it and you don't appreciate it. How insolent!" Kent uttered furiously.

"I don't care! Just tell me already, why you kept me alive" Charlotte yelled.

"Because your father pleaded with me to do so, so get your act together and leave this place. I will pretend I never saw you" Kent said seriously and took a few steps forward.

"I will regret listening to him," Charlotte said with so much hate as tears roll down her cheeks and Kent walked away without uttering a word.

Weeks later...

Emma barged into alpha Devon's study.

"You've become quite bold for your good," Devon said coldly with his eyes fixed on a book.

"How can you do this to me? Charlotte has gone missing for weeks and you didn't bother to share it with me" Emma half yelled and Devon closed the book in his hand and placed it on the table.

"And why do you think I should have told you about it?" Alpha Devon asked coldly.

"Because she's my friend and I deserve to know of her whereabouts. I know so well that you know of Charlotte's whereabouts. I would love it if you spill it out and tell me where the hell you hide my friend"

"You better watch it before I lose my cool" Alpha Devon said in a deeper tone.

"Where's Charlotte?" Emma yelled and Devon hit the table angrily.

Alpha Devon stood up and went closer to Emma.

"Don't you ever raise your voice at me! Next time you try that, you might regret it for the rest of your life" Devon threatened with cold looks in his eyes.

Emma looked away as she swallowed her anger.

"If you think I'm holding Charlotte captive then feel free to search around and what do you take me for, why would I even hold her captive? What benefits will she give to me? And you know exactly what I would have done to her if she had to step foot inside my territory" Devon said seriously.

"Does this mean, you have no idea of Charlotte's whereabouts as well?" Emma asked in a low tone.

Kent barged into the study as well.

"What's with the barging into my study?" Devon uttered seriously.

"Some enemies are invading our territory" Kent announced and Devon looked at him in shock.

"What do you mean?" Devon asked curiously.

"The warriors are heading over to our territory now but I don't think they stand a chance of defeating the enemies" Kent added.

"Let's get going," Devon said sharply and he turned to Emma.

"Luckily Celina taught you the basics of how to protect yourself so don't leave this study. Fight whoever comes in here" Devon ordered and left the study with Kent.

Alpha Devon and Kent ran to the territory in seconds.

"Kill!" Alpha Devon screamed as he transformed immediately.

Emma stood next to the door at the study in fear.

What the hell is happening? Why's there a sudden war outbreak? Emma questioned in her head worriedly.

"It's obvious, Alpha Devon has so many enemies," Rose said.

"The alpha will be safe right?" Emma questioned.

"You're suddenly concerned about him" Rose uttered.

"If something happens to him then I can't be the Luna and I might end up being killed by the elders or chiefs" Emma uttered.

"I can still feel the alpha's wolf. He's fine" Rose assured.

Emma heard so many footsteps approaching the alpha's study.

"We must find the princess" The werewolves uttered.

"If we don't find princess Emma, we will burn this place to the ground" They announced and Emma shrunk in fear.

Emma sniffed in the smell of the werewolves who were rebelling and her eyes went wide open in shock.

"What are they doing here?" Emma gasped in shock.

Emma opened the door of the study quickly and they turned around in her direction.

"Princess!" The werewolves called out excitedly.

Emma took them to her chambers.

"You all survived it?" Emma asked with teary eyes.

"Princess, you're alive" One of the werewolves uttered with a smile.

"I'm alive, the alpha spared my life but I don't think rebelling against him is the best choice. We've only recovered from the loss of our pack, we can't lose more lives. Alpha Devon is way too strong for you, you can't take him down this way" Emma said and they nodded.

"When we got the news of you being alive. We couldn't think straight anymore, we would do everything in our power to get you back, princess"

"I think it's too late for that. The alpha can't harm me anymore since I will be crowned the Luna soon so I plead with you to hold back yourselves and wait till everything settles down. We will take down the Alpha but not now. I think you should all retreat, you can't let harm come your way. We still haven't built back our pack" Emma said as tears escaped her eyes.

"We will do as you say, princess. Don't worry milady, lots of us escaped the alpha's attack. We've got our whole clan together" The chief among the werewolves uttered.

"I'm glad you all survived," Emma said with a smile.

"Princess we take our leave now. The alpha has gotten rid of all our masked warriors" The chief said.

"You should all look out for my message. Let's meet again in four months at the backwood territory of the shadow pack" Emma announced.

"Alright princess," They all said in chorus.

Alpha Devon and Kent came back to the pack house after the rebels retreated.

Devon stared at a space with so many thoughts running through his head.

"They came prepared. They even hide their smell so their identity wouldn't be revealed" Kent said.

"Just like the night mother got murdered. For some weird reason, I feel they're both connected but what do you think is their motive? They sneaked into the pack house and killed some guards but nothing happened to Emma and they didn't take her with them" Alpha Devon uttered suspiciously.
