C17 Suspect

CHAPTER 17

Alpha Devon furrowed his eyebrows after making that statement.

"If that's what you think then I guess, Emma is a suspect" Kent chipped in.

"We can't jump to conclusions just yet. She has been under my surveillance for the past weeks. She hasn't done anything suspicious for me to think that way" Alpha Devon said still in doubt.

"Well, if that's the case then I don't think you should be doing this right now your wedding will be taking place in a few days so let's worry about the rebels after your wedding. Your wedding with Emma will be quite a challenging one since all the Alphas want her in their possession" Kent said and Devon exhaled.

"Emma raised the conversation about Charlotte her friend and she's being suspicious of me for having anything to do with her disappearance. Do you have any idea where she disappeared to? Ever since her wedding with beta Max failed, she has been missing" Devon uttered and Kent looked away.

"She's not that important so why do you have her in mind? She wouldn't have disappeared into thin air if she had no ulterior motive. She nearly escaped death here in the grey pack she would never step foot here again so it's nothing you should worry yourself about" Kent uttered and Devon looked at him suspiciously.

"Look after her properly, I'm hoping she doesn't become a nuisance or a threat to me someday so watch out for that. I'm off to my chambers" Alpha Devon said and stood up from the sofa he sat on.

"Sire, what do you mean? I don't have Charlotte in my possession" Kent cut in and Devon smirked.

"I never said you did. I only said you should look out for her. I know you care about her and that's why you spared her life. You can lie to the whole world but not to me so take care of that properly" Devon said coldly then walked away.

Quite smart for my liking. Kent complimented in his head as a half smile appeared on his lips.

Alpha Devon was headed to his chambers when he saw Emma playing around with some pub in the garden.

"How can she play around in a time like this?" Devon uttered with a smile.

'Emma, the alpha is watching. We should go say hello to him' Rose suggested.

"I don't wish to look for his attention not after what happened yesterday. He might find me suspicious right now" Emma replied.

'Let's clear out his suspicions. We can't flop things now when the wedding is just a few days away' Rose said and Emma rolled her eyes then turned around to Devon.

"Hello" Emma waved at the alpha.

"Why's she waving to me? I don't remember being that close to her" Devon scoffed and Celina ran to him.

"Sire, are you okay? You didn't probably get hurt right?" Celina asked worriedly as she had a proper look around at the alpha.

"What's she doing? Why's she getting so close to the alpha? Celina doesn't know when to call a quit" Emma said seriously.

"I'm fine. I didn't get hurt, you don't have to overreact" Devon said coldly.

"Yes, sire but I've got a petition from one of the elders," Celina said.

"Is that so? Come with me" Devon said and left with Celina.

"What! Did he just leave without saying a word to me" Emma said getting pissed.

Wait a minute, why am l pissed? It's not even a big deal. What's the fuss all about? Emma questioned in her head with a shrug.

Alpha Devon and Celina went to his study.

"Sire, what do you think we should do about the disappearance of our pack members?" Celina asked curiously.

"It's nothing you should panic about. We need a clear head if we want positive solutions" Devon said calmly.

"Two pubs and four warriors have gone missing for days now," Celina said and Devon looked at her a bit shocked.

"That's much. Why the hell am I just getting informed now? Who's in charge of disclosing missing cases to me?" Alpha Devon asked seriously.

"Sire, everyone tried their best to retrieve the missing members but failed at it because we have no clue who or how they went missing and that's why I'm just telling you now" Celina explained.

Alpha Devon clenched his fist as he furrowed his eyebrows.

"Was Kent aware of this as well?" Alpha Devon asked.

"He helped out with the search" Celina uttered and Devon hit the table angrily.

Alpha Devon placed a call across to Kent.

"Meet me at my study. Something serious just came up" Devon said coldly then hung up.

"Sire, please don't be upset with the Beta. We were all just looking out for you because of your upcoming wedding and we didn't want to add to your worries"

"What darn wedding? Does this look like you helped reduce my stress? You only made it worse. Getting married isn't even a big deal so why are all of you making a deal out of it? Do you plan on making me lose my focus on my duty after I get married" Alpha Devon yelled furiously.

Kent came into the study. Alpha Devon stood up and walked to him.

"Kent are you my enemy or my ally?" Devon asked seriously.

"Of course, I'm your ally sire," Kent said with a bow.

"Oh, cut the crap. Why was I kept in the dark about everything that's been going on?" Devon asked with a mean look in his eyes.

"You weren't kept in the dark sire. I was only running some investigation before reporting it to you" Kent said calmly.

"What's your report? Did you find any clues?" Devon asked seriously.

"I'm still on it sire"

"Six werewolves went missing under your watch and that of the guards. How can you be so slow on getting the culprit? Do you have any idea how miserable it is to be held captive by an enemy? That's similar to being a slave" Devon yelled.

"We're not yet sure if it was a work of an enemy or they went missing," Kent said.

"You can't even tell the difference between being held captive or running away. Where do you think is the safest pack of all? So why do you think anyone would try to run away from a safe home? You better put some effort into your investigation, you're not doing the right thing and that's why you keep getting wrong clues" Devon said with a frown.

"The both of you should leave. I want to be left alone" Devon instructed coldly then went back to his seat.

Celina and Kent went out of the study.

"Why didn't you share your clues with the alpha? That must have worked out a bit" Celina said as they out of the pack house.

"I don't give reports I'm not sure of. All clues and suspicions might be pointing in one direction but it might turn out to be Farfetch so don't dwell on that. Go ahead with your investigation" Kent instructed.

"The Alpha hasn't been this upset with you for a while now"

"I guess I deserve that for excluding the alpha in a life-threatening situation like this. Don't worry much about it, he will get over it soon. The wedding will be in a few days so don't let anything flop. You did well in teaching Emma what she needs to know" Kent said with a half smile.

"You don't have to pretend in front of me. Your compliment isn't sincere, I know you feel insecure about her training. Do you think she would rebel someday if her powers get awakened?" Celina asked worriedly.

"It's so unlike you to worry about things like this" Kent shrugged.

"I'm afraid the alpha must have fallen too deep for her to resist"

"Then prepare to protect him if any of that sort happens. I will go first, I need to attend to something urgently" Kent said and walked to his car.

It's evening already at Grey pack.

Emma lay down on her bed about to catch some sleep when Alpha Devon came into her room.

"I heard you were busy so what brings you here?" Emma asked with a shrug as she sat up.

"How are you feeling now? You must have been startled by the sudden attack late last night" Devon said slowly then sat on Emma's bed.

"I'm good. It's nothing compared to the attack on my parents in front of my eyes" Emma said coldly.

"Do you still hate me so much?" Devon asked staring at her.

"Am I supposed to like you after all the things you did to me? I would prefer to be Alpha Grayson's slave than be your bride" Emma blurted and Devon grabbed her neck angrily.

"How dare you! Don't you ever make a statement like that in your life? I will rather die than let anyone have you, you're mine alone. Do you get that?" Devon said seriously then shoved her away.

"Why are you so desperate to get married to me?" Emma asked.

"I'm not desperate. I'm only trying to save lives, including yours. You will never understand any of it because of your hatred towards me but I love it though. The fact that I have a place in there" Devon said with a malicious smile.

Emma glared at him.

"I see, you love doing evil so everyone grows hatred for you"

"That's because they act that way outwardly not inwardly. Anyways, get some rest and don't leave your chambers tomorrow. You will be observing a fast for the wedding rituals" Devon instructed then stood up from the bed.

Is he going to leave without doing anything to me? What's this feeling? Why's he acting this way? Emma questioned in her head a bit confused.

And the alpha smiled like he read her thoughts.

Suddenly a pierced through the window aiming at Emma and Devon dragged Emma to the ground with his arms around her.

"What!" Emma gasped as she noticed what just happened.

"Shhh! Don't make a sound" Devon said in a low tone.

Emma heard the heartbeat of the alpha and she looked at him. His face was full of worries.

"Are you okay?" Devon asked then helped Emma up.

"I'm ..fine" Emma stuttered.

Alpha Devon walked to the spot where the dagger pierced the wall.

"This is the same dagger from the locust pack" Alpha Devon uttered almost in a whisper as he had a proper look at it.

"What happened, sir? Was I their target?" Emma asked worriedly.

"With all the training Celina gave you, you couldn't even save yourself from the attack. What if the dagger got through to you," Devon nagged with a frown.

"How was I supposed to know a dagger is being aimed at me? I know I've got sensitive ears but the dagger is quite light I couldn't even hear the approaching sound" Emma explained.

Alpha Devon pulled out the dagger from the wall.

"Come with me. You can't spend the night here" Devon said as he held Emma's hand and left the room with her.

"Guards!" Alpha Devon called out to all the strong guards protecting his chambers.

"Look out for anyone suspicious outside the pack's house. No one is allowed to come into my chambers or leave. Whoever forces his way out should be executed" Alpha Devon instructed.

Alpha Devon took Emma to his bedroom.

"You will have to spend the night here," Devon said about to leave the room.

"Aren't you going to spend the night here as well?" Emma asked curiously.

"I will be right back. Just don't step out of this room" Alpha Devon instructed then left the room.

Devon head to the pack's dungeon.

"Sophia!" Alpha Devon called out angrily as he head into Sophia's cell.

"Sophia!" He called out again.

"Do you miss me so much already?" Sophia asked with a seductive smile.

"Cut the crap and tell me exactly why you aimed your dagger at Emma?" Alpha Devon yelled as his eyes turned mild yellow in anger.
