CHAPTER 4

Alpha Devon stood by the window as he watched Alpha Grant walk to his car.

Alpha Grant turned around and winked at Devon.

Flashback...

"I'm sorry but I've got other things to attend to. I will take my leave now but I'm hoping, on my next visit I will be leaving with princess Emma. So make up your mind before my next visit" Alpha Grant said.

Alpha Devon frowned on remembering that.

Why does he want to take Emma with him? He questioned in his head.

"Seems like your meeting with Alpha Grant didn't go well," Beta Kent said from behind and Devon went back to his seat.

"What gives him the right to order me around?" Devon uttered with a frown.

"I guess, he got a trump card against you. Should I go cut off his wings?" Kent asked coldly.

"Not yet, I still need him around. Mother loved him so much when she was alive, I believe she wouldn't want me to take his life so easily and I still need to fish out some information from him before cutting off his wings"

"He's using that as an opportunity to mess around," Kent said and Devon scoffed.

"That aside, how on earth did he find out, I'm doing an undercover investigation on the locust pack?" Devon asked seriously.

"No one knows that except for the both of us. Do you think Alpha Grant has a spy in the grey pack?"

Alpha Devon scoffed at that statement.

"I guess that should be your next mission. If there's a rat in here, he should be shredded into pieces, not even his bones should be spared" Devon said with a frown.

"I will get to it," Kent said and walked away.

Alpha Devon held his head with his hand as he had a flashback of the night of his mother's death.

Alpha Grant was hiding behind a tree when the assassination attack took place.

But why on Earth was he hiding there? Devon questioned in his head.

For many years, this has been the question on Alpha Devon's mind.

"I think Grant had something to do with the death of the Luna. He knows something" Scott said.

"Why would he get involved with mother's death? He won't benefit anything from doing that. Alpha Falcon was solely the one behind the assassination" Devon replied.

Suddenly Emma's thought came to Devon's mind.

Alpha Devon remembered how he grabbed onto Emma when she was about to run away and he smirked.

"For so many years, I've never seen such a smirk" Kent said out of the blue and Devon frowned swiftly.

"How come you're back so early?" Devon asked as he stood up to leave the meeting room.

"What if it's one of the elders? Should I push through with the execution or he shall be brought before you for questioning?" Kent asked and Devon sighed sharply.

"I don't care how you deal with it but you should do it fast. I might end up ripping out his heart if I find out exactly why they did it" Alpha Devon said coldly.

"Got it, sire," Kent said and Devon walked away.

Alpha Devon got to his room and unlike he expected, Sophia is laying on his bed.

"Finally you are back," Sophia said with a seductive tone as she sat up.

"Sophia you should come back some other time. I'm a bit busy right now" Devon said removing his jacket.

"Why are you in a bad mood?"

"I can help you let go of your problems for a moment," Sophia said seductively as she crawled out of the bed.

She walked to alpha Devon and tried to help him unbutton his shirt.

"I heard Alpha Grant visited. Are you having issues with the shred pack?" Sophia asked slowly and Devon moved away from her as he noticed insincerity in her voice.

"How did you know about that? I'm predicting you've been here for hours but how come you know about Alpha Grant's visit?" Devon asked suspiciously.

"Come on, don't make me the bad guy. I heard it from the maids" Sophia said smiling awkwardly and Alpha Devon noticed the increase in her heartbeat race.

"Sophia let's call it a day. I'm a bit tired today" Devon said coldly then walked to the washroom.

"Sophia I'm hoping you don't betray me or stab me in the back. You know exactly what I mean right?" Alpha Devon threatened from the washroom.

Sophia left the room without saying anything.

Emma tried to dress her mattress when an envelope fell out of it.

"What's this?" She questioned before picking it up.

Emma unwrapped the envelope and brought out the piece of paper with a short note on it.

..."Princess Emma, join forces with me, let's destroy Devon together. I know exactly how to take him down. Why do you think he kept you alive?"...

Emma read out from the piece of paper and for a moment, millions of questions ran through her mind.

"What's this letter for? Why is it here? Is someone putting an eye on me? Who can this be from exactly and how did it get here?" Emma questioned.

'What if alpha Devon is doing this to test your loyalty to him? There's no possible way, this letter is from someone outside' Rose said and Emma nodded.

"If by any chance, this is from someone outside then I think it's a perfect opportunity to plan how to avenge my family," Emma said with a vicious smile.

'Let's not be rash about this. Emma I feel something strange' Rose said and Emma looked around her room.

"What do you mean? What do you feel?"

"I'm suddenly getting the feeling. I've never felt this before. Emma our mate is in the grey pack" Rose announced.

"Rose not now of all times. We can't possibly have a mate in this state of my life. We've got other things to focus on and just like you said years back at home. You blew a false alarm" Emma reminded.

"I told you what I felt and don't you find it strange that alpha Devon has never talked about it? I felt so on our first encounter and meeting with him"

"What happened after then? You never felt it again or were you intentionally trying to pull my legs? Luckily your assumptions didn't turn out to be true. I don't think I will ever accept a monster like him as my mate" Emma said angrily.

"I always felt something whenever the alpha is around but the feeling is always faint after so many years, I'm sensing the real feeling of our mate," Rose said.

"Let's not start with that. You're not trying to say, the word I despise most right" Emma groaned, and just then Alpha Devon came into her cubicle room.

Emma stood up sharply in shock.

'Emma I'm feeling something right now Rose cut in.

"Do you need help with something in your chambers? I will get to it" Emma said as she walked to the door but Devon dragged her back and shut the door.

"What are you.." Emma asked in a shaky tone avoiding eye contact with him.

"Strip off your clothes" Alpha Devon ordered with authority in his voice.

"Why are you doing this to me?" Emma questioned walking backward in fear.

"It's an order so obey if you don't wish to get hurt" Devon commanded coldly.

Emma removed her clothes slowly.

Alpha Devon pushed Emma to the mattress and she fell on it.

"You're in no position to ask me such a question," He said coldly.

"We've spent many years together so I think I have that little right to know if you're seeing someone else," Sophia said.

"Don't make it sound like a big deal. We didn't spend years together, we only fucked for the past few years. It was all for fun. You should leave now Sophia" Alpha Devon said bluntly.

Sophia didn't bulge on hearing that. Devon glanced at her.

"You should leave when I'm still been nice" He repeated in a thunderous tone.

Sophia quickly got down from the bed and put on her clothes swiftly then left the room.

She was leaving and just then beta Kent came in. He noticed the look on Sophia's face.

"You've tossed one of your toys once again. You've been acting strangely ever since your first time with Emma. Does this mean, you've finally accepted her as your mate?" Kent asked curiously as he came into the room.

"There's no way, I would accept the daughter of my greatest enemy as my mate" Devon said coldly.

"You've always known she was your mate but you successfully tried in suppressing it from showing. I don't think you will be able to do that now since you're getting attached to her"

Alpha Devon frowned as Kent's words hit his bitter truth.

"There's no way, I would let a she-wolf be my weak point. Not just any she-wolf, I'm talking about Emma the daughter of Alpha Falcon" Devon uttered furiously.

"How about rejecting her before it's too late or killing her before she becomes a nuisance" Kent suggested and Devon glared at him.

"She's good in bed," Alpha Devon said with a blank expression and Kent chuckled.

"You've never given any she-wolf a credit like that but I'm hoping that doesn't ruin our greater plans," Kent said coldly.

Alpha Devon looked away gazing at a space.

"I've got news about the locust pack" Kent added and Devon glanced at him.

"The locust pack has been smuggling some of our resources in secret with the help of the shred pack" Kent informed and Alpha Devon clenched his fist angrily.

"We will be heading to the locust pack before sunset tomorrow," Devon said coldly.

Someone knocked at the door.

"Sire, Alpha Grant just arrived. He's seeking an audience" The guard at the door announced.

Alpha Devon and Kent had a glance at the window. Virtually fifty warriors of the shred pack are standing guard outside the pack's house.
