C6 They Were Sick!

"Got it, go ahead and take care of your stuff." Nannan looked at the bowl of porridge in front of her. Eating was better than starving, she thought. While other expectant mothers might get all kinds of soups, she was stuck with porridge. Life just wasn’t fair.

"If you need anything, just call me." Elder Ji quietly headed upstairs, directly entering a room. He seemed quite familiar with the place, probably a regular visitor.

Late at night, Yu'er carefully opened Yizhou's bedroom door and tiptoed inside. For Yizhou, her reputation was a small price to pay.

Yu'er gently touched Yizhou's cheek. Normally, she wouldn’t be able to get this close to him. With that thought, she leaned in and kissed his cheek, ready to take things further.

"What are you doing?" Yizhou opened his eyes, looking at Yu'er. He was a light sleeper, waking up at the slightest noise.

"Yi... Yizhou, don't get the wrong idea. I came into the wrong room," Yu'er stammered, instinctively stepping back a few paces.

"Get out." Yizhou glared at Yu'er, surprised at her boldness. Her tactics reminded him a bit of Nannan, though Nannan had succeeded. Thinking of Nannan, a small smile crept onto Yizhou's face.

"I understand." Yu'er quickly ran out. She had been so close. If only he hadn’t woken up. If she had just managed to end up in his bed, even if he didn’t like her, his family would have pressured him to take responsibility.

Yu'er sat anxiously on the couch, worried he might despise her, thinking she was a woman without self-respect. She didn’t dare imagine how she would face Yizhou in the future.

Yizhou came downstairs, giving her a brief, expressionless glance before heading straight out the door.

"Where are you going?" Nannan asked anxiously, the words slipping out before she could stop them.

Zheng Yizhou ignored her and walked away, feeling disgusted by the recent events. He had already been set up once, and now it seemed to be happening again. Did everyone think he was that easy to manipulate?

"What are you doing? Are you crazy?" Nannan instinctively swatted at the face in front of her, nearly jumping out of her skin. She had locked the door, so how did he get in? And why was he staring at her like that? People can really scare each other to death.

"So, you do get scared," Zheng Yizhou said, holding his face and glaring at her. She dared to hit him? Was she tired of living? She kept provoking him again and again.

"Of course! Try having someone suddenly stand by your bed, that close to you," Nannan retorted, clutching the sheets tightly. Little did she know, Zheng Yizhou had just gone through something similar.

"Why are you covering up? There's not a part of you I haven't seen," Zheng Yizhou mocked, as if it was her fault for what had happened between them.

"I'm not used to it. Maybe I'll start going out at night to have fun like some people, and then have the nerve to criticize others," Nannan shot back, staring at the lipstick mark on his face. He didn't even try to hide it. Zheng Yizhou was really something.

"Who are you talking about?" Zheng Yizhou asked, not realizing Nannan was referring to him. He hadn't noticed the lipstick mark left by Deng Yu'er.

"Don't you know? Clean the lipstick off your face before you talk to me," Nannan said with a hint of disdain in her eyes. She couldn't believe Zheng Yizhou was so desperate. Wasn't he supposed to be uninterested in women? She had gone through so much trouble to get close to him.

"Lipstick mark?" Zheng Yizhou touched his face instinctively, guessing that Deng Yu'er had done it while he was asleep. She claimed she went to the wrong room, but how do you kiss the wrong person? Who was she trying to kiss, his grandfather? Her taste was a bit questionable.

"What are you pretending for? Did someone else not satisfy you, so you came running back to me?" Nannan continued, making Yizhou's face grow darker with each word. He was tempted to tear into her.

"Yeah, I'm not satisfied. Are you going to satisfy me?" With that, Yizhou leaned in closer, his desire palpable even through the thin sheet.

"It's late, and this isn't good for the kids," Nannan whispered softly in his ear, her breath warm against his skin, making Yizhou's posture straighten instantly. He was itching to pull her close and hold her tight.

"You're playing with fire," Yizhou warned, reluctantly pulling away. She was right there, yet he couldn't do anything about it, and it was frustrating.

"Goodnight. Don't forget to lock the door," Nannan said, turning away. She was genuinely tired and not in the mood for more conversation.

Yizhou watched her, then quietly left the room. She seemed genuinely uninterested in engaging with him, and he wasn't about to force himself on her.

The next morning, Yizhou was jolted awake by the ringing phone. Yu'er was persistent, never giving up.

"Hello," Yizhou answered, irritation lacing his voice. He was still annoyed about last night, and now they were bothering him again.

"Yu'er says she just went into the wrong room last night. I've already scolded her, but she's upset and won't listen to me. You should come back and talk to her," Moo Yongrong said over the phone. She knew what had happened last night and had even helped plan it. Who would have thought Yu'er would get caught, leaving her to smooth things over?

"Yizhou, I really didn't mean to," Deng Yu'er explained.

"And how do you explain the lipstick mark? Did you kiss the wrong person? Who were you trying to kiss?" Zheng Yizhou retorted mercilessly, giving Deng Yu'er no room to save face. Some people just can't be indulged; if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile.

"I..." Deng Yu'er bit her lip. She had forgotten to remove her makeup last night, and she might have accidentally left a lipstick mark on his face. Now, no matter how much she tried to explain, it seemed impossible to clear her name.

"Nothing to say, huh? I have work to do. Do you have anything else?" Zheng Yizhou said impatiently. Didn't she know what she had done? Claiming ignorance didn't help, and he wasn't going to let her off the hook easily.

"Alright, we'll hang up now. You get back to work, and come home early for dinner," Moo Yongrong said, ending the call. She looked at Deng Yu'er with displeasure. How could she be so careless? She couldn't even handle such a small matter without leaving evidence. Now, even Moo Yongrong couldn't defend her.

"I'm sorry, I was wrong. I'll be more careful next time," Deng Yu'er said, her head hung low in self-reproach. This time, even Moo Yongrong couldn't speak up for her.
