C9 They Got What They Wanted!
"Do you really think I'd let a woman pay for me?" Yizhou looked at her, incredulous. Did Nannan really underestimate him that much?
"Who knows? You're so stingy," Nannan mumbled under her breath. How could she expect generosity from someone who was tight even with living expenses?
"What did you say?" Yizhou tapped her on the head, suspecting it wasn't anything flattering. After all, she was known for her sharp tongue.
"Hey, hitting someone's head can make them dumber," Nannan glared at him. Why couldn't this guy be a little gentler with girls?
"You weren't that smart to begin with," Yizhou teased, looking down on her. But in truth, he found her quite endearing; when she got mad, she was like a little wildcat with its fur all puffed up.
"Get lost," Nannan shot him a glare. She'd always been at the top of her class, working hard not to disappoint her mom or her adoptive parents.
"What's with the attitude? You went through all that trouble to get into my bed, and now you act like this?" Yizhou whispered in her ear, puzzled by her motives.
"What? Afraid you've fallen for me, Mr. CEO? Upset because I snapped at you?" Nannan playfully settled onto Yizhou's lap, the tension between them palpable. She could feel the heat through his pants, but she wasn't about to give him the satisfaction.
"We're in a car, and you're this eager?" Yizhou didn't push her away. They say women are fickle, and Nannan proved it—her mood changed faster than a page in a book.
The driver continued to drive as if nothing unusual was happening, eyes fixed on the road.
"Don't get it twisted. I might want to, but my kid wouldn't approve," Nannan returned to her seat, leaving Yizhou likely frustrated, stirred up but unable to act on it.
"You," Yizhou glared at her, feeling a fiery sensation below. If Nannan weren't pregnant, he would have made her pay for her antics. No woman had ever toyed with him like this before; she was the first.
"I didn't mean to," Nannan replied innocently, her big eyes blinking with a harmless look. If Yizhou didn't know her tricks, he might have believed her.
As soon as they entered the restaurant, Yizhou headed straight for the restroom. Watching his retreating figure, Nannan flashed a satisfied smile. She was determined to make him pay dearly for this meal. By the time Yizhou returned, the table was already laden with dishes.
"Sorry, I might have ordered a bit much. Eating for two, you know. Hope it wasn't too much trouble," Nannan said with a cheerful smile, cutting into the steak in front of her.
"Well, you better finish all of it. Anything left is coming home with you for the next few days," Yizhou replied, eyeing the mountain of food. This woman was infuriating; she had to be doing this on purpose.
"I'll finish it," Nannan assured him, diving into her meal. Most of it was light fare, like spicy crawfish that barely filled a plate. People often underestimated a woman's appetite, but she could eat enough to make anyone question reality.
As Nannan devoured her meal, Yizhou found himself getting hungry and took a few bites. Watching her eat, he was amazed. No man could finish all this; what was her stomach made of?
After the meal, Nannan leaned back in her chair, satisfied. Thankfully, they were in a private room; eating in the main dining area would have been embarrassing.
"Let's go home," Yizhou said, grabbing Nannan and heading out. He could feel the curious stares from the staff; the two of them had consumed enough for several people.
"What are you doing? You just ate; you shouldn't be exercising." Nannan tugged at his hand. She had just eaten and couldn't handle any rough activity. This guy was always so straightforward and rough, never understanding how to treat a woman gently.
"Here, take this. Since you're now my wife, you deserve the best." Yizhou handed her a supplementary card he had just paid for. As long as there was money in his account, this card would never run out.
"That's more like it." Nannan accepted the card. Spending her adversary's money didn't bother her one bit.
"I've got work to do. You take her home," Yizhou instructed the driver. On closer inspection, this woman wasn't so bad. The more he got to know her, the more pleasantly surprised he was.
"Ling, help me look into Nannan's background. The more detailed, the better." Yizhou watched the car drive away. He couldn't trust anyone completely; the only person who would never betray him was himself.
"Yizhou, I heard you've been pretty taken with that woman. Word is you even brought her home. She must be quite something," Ling teased.
"You already know?" Yizhou was a bit surprised. He hadn't mentioned it to Ling yet. Lately, he'd been so busy he hadn't kept in touch with him.
"Yu'er told me and asked for my help. Yizhou, we've been friends for years, and I can't believe I'm the last to know." Ling's mood turned a bit somber. In the past, Yizhou would always tell him everything first.
"I was just about to call you about this. Ling, let's meet up and talk." Yizhou hung up. It seemed like ages since he'd hung out with Ling, not since graduation.
"What made you want to see me today?" Ling arrived shortly, dressed casually, showing off his long legs.
"Alright, what's the deal with you and that girl?" Huangfu Ling asked directly. He had only known Xia Nannan for a few days, and yet they were already married.
"It's just to avoid the family-arranged marriage, you know I don't like Deng Yu'er," Zheng Yizhou replied, standing on the rooftop and looking down. He really couldn't bring himself to like Deng Yu'er.
"And what about Xia Nannan? Why her?" Huangfu Ling looked seriously at Zheng Yizhou. The Zheng Yizhou he knew wasn't someone who did things on a whim, unless he actually had feelings for Xia Nannan.
"I don't know," Zheng Yizhou admitted. He wasn't sure what he was thinking; it just happened in a moment of impulse. Besides, he and Xia Nannan were just helping each other out.
"Oh, and don't forget to look into Xia Nannan," Zheng Yizhou reminded him, knowing Huangfu Ling could be a bit forgetful.
"Of course, I already have someone on it. Don't forget who I am," Huangfu Ling said confidently, patting his chest. If he wanted to find something out, there was nothing he couldn't uncover.
