PLAYING THE GAME

ROSE POV

“Maya when did you start being considerate about my feelings and how I think of you!… ?… we both know you hate me and I loathe you as well, if not more… So what changed!!” Mr Brown's brother was screaming at me.

Immediately I noticed he had come to Mr Brown house to see his brother. I sneaked out of my apartment and went to the pool side. The last time he visited, he came to my apartment and was causing a nuisance there because the guard by the door told him I wasn’t home according to my order.

“I left the house to relax here since it’s weekend uncle.. why don’t we sever this enmity and become friends… you are more like a father to me too” I told him, forcing my voice to be calm and cool but my uncle wasn’t ready for peace.

“Maya, until you tell me what happened to you those three months, I won't let you be!.. did you hit your head or something, the nephew I know would never suggest that we become friends… you love fighting with me! Are you a coward now?” He threw at me, almost bending enough to enter the pool to meet with me.

Looking into his face all I could see is the intense hatred and enmity. How did he and maya get to this situation?, aren’t they family?. “If you think about coming back here to play a pretend game so you can get my brothers’ property.. you are only deceiving yourself, I’m a man and I can handle it better!, he snarled at me.

His words immediately sent a signal to my brain and he became the first suspect in my list, he mentioned something about me pretending and also talked about mr Brown property, now that’s a solid reason to kill Maya for.

I threw my calmness and niceness into the water as I jumped out of it. One of my maids quickly gave me my purple towel and I strolled toward my uncle, my soft eyes hardening at once. He's a bad man and needs no sympathy or respect.

“Uncle, aren't you ashamed of yourself, standing by my pool side to banter words with me! Over my own fathers’ money and assets!!… why don’t you work for yours… he’s my father and if he so wished to include you in his will so be it… but don’t ever think he would give you all his properties when he has a daughter here!” I shouted at him, frowning so much, I felt pain in my face.

Mr Brown brother was taken aback by my sudden change in tune and demeanour, in his eyes I saw him struggling to conceal his shock, i only gave him a tip of Maya and if he’s the killer he would be so scared and confused as to why Maya is still alive, knowing fully well that she saw him kill her.

My phone rang, startling me and giving me an excuse at the same time to walk away from him, “Richard … ohoo, I will never forget our dinner.. you disturbed me for weeks before I agreed.. I need that dinner now, on my way to my room to prepare ..” I spoke loudly into the phone just to make sure Mr brown brother heard me.

Everyone is scared of Richard, including Him, if he thinks I’m back with Richard, he would watch his step and attitude around me. Richard is an influential and very powerful man and everyone is afraid of him.

I smiled proudly at how I handled the situation, at the same time Richard wwordsfilled my head and my smile increased, “you’ve changed since you returned, you are no longer gloomy or always frowning… there's this aura of positivity that keeps calling you to me!” He confessed in my office one day.

We still fight with each other at every given opportunity but we both can not deny the force of attraction between us, especially Richard. I know he would try to ask me tonight during our dinner who I dated and what he’s like. He's so possessive of me and wants to know everything about me.

“You are smiling sheepishly like a tteenagedaughter!” Mr Brown called out to me from the top floor before I got to my side of the building, I waved at him like a child who had seen her dad from afar after several years of being apart.

“I’m going to dinner with Richard, he said it’s just a casual outing among business partners!… !” I added quickly, knowing Mr Brown, hould tease me about it, he laughed out loud enough for me to hear that he was teasing me.

Since he saved my life, Mr Brown had lecome y best friend. We talk and play together a lot and the last time I told him about me and Richard's relationship he had argued with me that I would fall in love with him and he would like me too, but I had insisted that it would never happen. We had argued all through the night while we watched a movie and ate sweet snacks together.

Mr Brown calls me daughter and I call him father.

Our relationship is way behind helping each other to seek revenge now, naturally, I want to take care of him and be by his side and he also spoils me and flaunts me as his daughter without having to force it, it comes naturally to us.

The next day at work I heard ivy crying hysterically in Richard's office because he asked her not to talk about personal things with him when they were at work, I also noticed how stiff and cold he was to her, I knew their relationship was no longer the same since the very first day I returned to work.

“ hello madam … Mr David is here to see you … David Williams from diamond platinum corporation!” My secretary called out from the company phone.

Freezing had never been so easy until I heard David’s name. When she called his surname along with my company name, I went completely numb.

“Yes, ma!… hello! Hello madam Maya!” My secretary's voice brought me out of my frozen mode, he doesn’t know it’s me, that means he’s here to see Maya! Just what I have been waiting for.

“Let him him dera.. thank you!” I immediately collected my stance and sat properly in readiness to see my husband again, he’s still my husband because we haven’t divorced yet, and to him I am dead.

“Welcome, Mr. David … when David ..” I waited for him to mention his surname again, acting like I wasn’t interested in him in any way.

“David Williams madam… nice meeting you finally” he responded beaming at me like a child who had just been given sweet candy, I noticed him staring at the opening in my skirt and I knew immediately just how to get my properties from him back.

“You are here to sign the contract you won with us right?” I asked, reading the file my secretary dropped on my table that morning. I haven’t had time to open it and now I'm just seeing why he’s here.

Forcing myself not to frown or have any sign of hatred or say anything that would get him to suspect that I was Rose, I sat still and clapped my hands together, They were about to start trembling.

“Are you okay madam Maya.. you look upset … I think you are tired .. I hear you work yourself out a lot, you should go out with your man and relax sometimes … you know….. have somcozysy weekend where you switch off your phone and enjoy with your man” he said to me, highlighting the “man” in his sentence, I know he was trying to find out if I had a boyfriend or any love interest in my life.

“Greedy thief!… already Finding a way to get close to May so he can steal from her too…!” I thought to myself. f? Allowing my mind to frown all it wanted in my mind while I straightened my upset face to smile Adorably at him physically, intentionally opening my slit for him to have a look at my exposed lap.

The fact that he stole my designs and years of hard work and submission of the proposal and is using it to work with Mr. Brown's company was making me boil inside my body, I could swear that the heat was almost smelling outside, he discouraged me then and told me to ignore Mr. Brown company if he wouldn’t accept my proposal to work together and now he’s here in his company using my contracts to work with him.

“What a sly man!” I yelled at him in my head, “Oh.. there’s no time for any man now…I’m single… I’m sure you will understand my point since you are single as well…” I intentionally pretended like I didn’t know he was married to Olivia now.

“That’s true madam Maya… work has been so demanding … Since I lost my wife I haven’t been able to be with any other woman… I miss my late wife so much, sometimes I don’t think I can ever live again” his smiles waning gradually as he spoke to me as if he meant what he was saying when we both knew he was lying, he married Olivia the same week I had an accident. When I was in a coma and struggling for my life!

“Bastard!” I yelled again in my mind, just then I knew how to deal with him, just like Olivia stole him from me and made him forget about me I will take him from Olivia and take all he stole from me as well.

“Why are you smiling with the client Maya!” Richard sauntered into my office, frowning and halting with cold and deadly eyes at David, his eyes throwing fire and brimstone combined with Davwiths who was staring at my exposed lap before Richard walked in.

I sat back and watched the two men, this game was just beginning to get interesting, one side was my husband who didn’t know I was his wife whom he stole from and pushed to death, and the other was the man I was in love with who thinks I’m another woman!.
