C1 My professor is my one night stand

EMMA WALES P. O. V

"Happy birthday girl!!!" Sally squealed the moment I opened the door.

I blinked, taking in the sight of my best friend standing in front of me, holding a cake with candles. It was my birthday, and I had completely forgotten about it. I had been so caught up in everything that had been happening, that it had slipped my mind.

"Oh my gosh, I can't believe I forgot!" I gasped, a smile spreading across my face. "Thank you, Sally!"

“You forgot?? Come on!" She laughed as I led her into my house.

“I actually thought you were going to throw a party or something” She rolled her eyes as we both sat on the couch.

“Party?" I laughed. Throwing a party was the last thing on my list.

"You know, a birthday party," she said, giving me a look.

"With music, food, and presents. You know, like a normal person would have."

I shook my head. "I don't really have the energy for all that right now," I said, feeling a little bit guilty.

"I'm sorry, I know you were probably looking forward to it."

Sally waved her hand dismissively.

"Don't worry about it," she smiled.

“So where's your mom?" She asked, looking around my house. “Hi Mrs Wales!!" She yelled.

" Shut it!!” I hushed her.

" My mom is not at home. She's on a night shift” I informed her.

“Oh okay.." she replied. My mom was a nurse and was hardly at home.

“So what did Jens get you for your birthday? “ She asked gingerly and the smile on my face fell.

Jens was my boyfriend and I haven't heard from him since today, not even a phone call.

I guess the both of us forgot about my birthday.

I struggled to keep the disappointment off my face as I thought about Jens. We had been dating for a few months, and I thought things were going well. But now, I couldn't help but feel like something was off. I had been expecting at least a text from him, but I hadn't heard a peep. I was starting to worry that he had forgotten about me, or that he didn't care as much as I thought he did.

“He hasn't gotten me anything.." I replied and Sally immediately understood everything.

“Don't tell me Jens hasn't wished you a happy birthday?" She asked, her eyes wide as saucers as I bit my lips hard.

“You’ve got to be kidding me!!! “ She exclaimed in shock.

I shook my head, my eyes stinging as tears threatened to fall.

"I know, it's kind of pathetic," I said, feeling embarrassed.

"Yes, it is. That's why you should probably just break up with him, right?"

Sally put her arm around my shoulder.

"I wouldn't go that far," I replied softly.

" Come on. Emma. When are you going to wake up??”

" Seriously you're weird just like Jens. You both forgot about today. You're so strange.. “ she shook her head slowly.

"What are you talking about?"

Sally let out a sigh. "It's your birthday today, and you're not even acting like it's a special day. You're just going about your normal routine like it's any other day. Don't you think you deserve to celebrate?" She paused.

" And your boyfriend forgot too. I thought you both were going to do the deed once you turned eighteen. “ She asked, staring intently at me.

"What?!" I sputtered, my cheeks flushing with heat.

"That's not something I would tell you about! And I don't know where you got that idea from. Jens and I have never discussed anything like that."

Sally gave me a skeptical look. "You guys have been dating for a while now, and you're both turning eighteen. It's not a crazy assumption. It's what all teens do once they turn eighteen. They have sex!!” She deadpanned.

“Whatever Sally. I'll talk to him in school… “ I waved her off.

Jens and I met in school and we only started dating. He was known as the most popular boy in school, while I was just a common nerd who was madly in love with him and he claimed he loved me too. But Sally did not like him one bit. She kept saying she saw nothing good in him and that he was not a boyfriend type. He was only a spoiled brat.

“That's what you always say. Anyways good luck on that. But right now I think we should do something else.. “ she suggested as she sat up from the chair.

" Do what? “ I was intrigued.

" Let's go clubbing.." she suggested and my smile fell. I hated clubbing.

"Clubbing?" I asked, my voice filled with doubt.

I was not really into that. I was more of a stay-at-home, cozy-up-with-a-good-book kind of person.

Sally gave me a look of disbelief. "Come on, it'll be fun! We'll go out, have a few drinks, and dance the night away. It'll be a great way to celebrate your birthday!"

I shook my head. "I'm not sure that's my idea of a good time. I don't like loud, crowded places, and I don't drink.”

“Come on Emma. You're eighteen and almost everyone from school is going to be there.." she informed me.

"I know, but I still don't think I want to go," I insisted. "I don't feel comfortable in those kinds of environments. I'd rather just stay home and relax."

" And that's not going to happen today. You are coming with me... “ Sally was incessant. That was who she was. She would turn the world upside down and I knew she wasn't going to let me be until I said yes.

"Sally, I really don't think-" I started to protest, but she cut me off.

"No buts!" she said, her eyes blazing.

"You're going to come with me, and you're going to have a good time. And if you don't, I'll never ask you to do anything you don't want to do ever again. I promise."

" Alright, alright... “ I reluctantly agreed.

" Perfect!!” Sally jumped off the chair happily.

“That my girl. Now we should get the birthday girl dressed up. She held my wrist and dragged me to my room.

I allowed myself to be pulled to my bedroom, knowing there was no use in arguing. But as she started to go through my clothes, picking out different outfits for me.

I had never been one for going out and partying, and the idea of it made me feel anxious. But I didn't want to disappoint Sally and I felt I should know what fun tasted like for once.

"What do you think about this dress?" she asked, holding up a short, sparkly number that I would never in a million years wear.

“It's nice... “ I smiled at her as she approached me.

" I'm going to make sure you look hot!! “ She grinned.

…..

Sally and I walked into the bar that was bustling with life. Almost the full bar was stark full with students from my school.

As we entered the bar, I felt my anxiety level rise. It was loud and crowded, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. I felt completely out of my element, and I wondered if I had made a mistake by agreeing to come here.

"Don't look so nervous," Sally said, squeezing my hand. "We're going to have a great time!"

I nodded, trying to force myself to relax.

“Okay.. “ I muttered.

“Good.." we both walked to a corner as we sat down.

“Wait here. I'll go get us drinks.." Sally said to my ears as she disappeared the next minute.

I sat down waiting patiently for Sally. Then my eyes caught something. Jens was there kissing a girl from our school.

I couldn't believe my eyes. He was with another girl on my birthday.

I suddenly felt disgusted and angry. Picking up my purse I barged out of the club.

I felt tears in my eyes as I walked far away from the club.

I walked for a long time, before stopping in front of a car. I rested my back against the car as I began to think of my life. I was such a big fool.

“Young lady. What are you doing here all by yourself?" I heard a deep dry husky voice and I looked up to see a man. It was dark and I could hardly see his face. I guessed it was his car I was leaning on.

“You should go home. It's not safe for a girl your age to wander about… “ he advised as I stepped away from the car.

He opened the door and was about to go in when I held him back. I didn't even know what I was thinking at that moment.

" Let's have sex” I announced in a firm voice.
