C12 My Husband Gave Me Pocket Money
Ye Junhao's car pulled away from Jun's Hotel, located in the heart of the city. Adjacent to it was the bustling central pedestrian street, lined with shops that boasted lavish decorations and sold luxury items.
As they approached the entrance to the pedestrian street, Ye Junhao signaled the driver to stop. The driver promptly pulled over.
Mu Chuchen, puzzled, watched as Ye Junhao retrieved his wallet and pulled out a bank card. He extended it toward her under her watchful eye.
"Here you go."
Mu Chuchen hesitated to take it. "Jun Hao, I don't need money."
She was far from poor.
In her past life, she had lived lavishly on her savings with Chung Sen, never working, and it took them three years to deplete their funds.
Reborn, she vowed never to follow Chung Sen again, choosing instead to remain by Ye Junhao's side, even in death.
The income from her real estate investments was more than many could hope to earn in a lifetime.
"I know, but this is just some spending money for you," he insisted.
After a moment's consideration, Mu Chuchen accepted the bank card. "Thank you."
Ye Junhao, unaccustomed to such formality from her, pressed his lips together before reminding her, "We're husband and wife."
She needn't be so formal with him.
If she could continue to be as compliant as she was today, avoiding trouble, not offending anyone, not requiring his intervention to fix her messes, not forcing him to apologize on her behalf, he would be at peace.
Before Mu Chuchen could respond, Ye Junhao suddenly reached over and opened the car door for her.
"Step out."
Mu Chuchen was taken aback, unable to follow his rapid change of thought. One moment he was giving her a bank card for her personal expenses, and the next, he was asking her to get out of the car.
What was he implying?
Ye Junhao raised an eyebrow. "Weren't you going to buy me some new clothes? Or was that a lie?"
Mu Chuchen, caught off guard, inquired, "Aren't you coming with me?"
She made that offhand comment just to provoke Shaang Dongyan and assert her claim. He actually believed her.
With an unchanging demeanor, Ye Junhao said, "I've got another important meeting to get to, so I need to head back. Go ahead and enjoy some shopping. Buy whatever catches your eye. There's no need to economize on my account, and don't worry about the cost—the money you have is more than enough to buy out this entire street."
Mu Chuchen was touched by the thought that the allowance he gave her could purchase the most bustling pedestrian street in the city. His generosity was truly overwhelming.
Indeed, in both his past and present life, Ye Junhao had never been anything but generous with her materially. He always provided the best of everything—food, accommodations, and possessions. Whenever she expressed a liking for something, even if he showed no immediate reaction, he would later go out of his way to quietly find and acquire it for her.
Then, he would silently bring it back and place it in her room. If she noticed it, she would use it. If not, the items he had painstakingly sought would simply take up space in her room, silently passing the days.
"I'll arrange for the driver to pick you up later," Ye Junhao added.
Mu Chuchen acknowledged with a nod and stepped out of the car.
Before closing the door, she asked in a gentle tone, "Your meeting will wrap up your work for the morning, won't it? Could you come and pick me up yourself? We could go home and have lunch together."
In the more than three years they had been married, Mu Chuchen had always maintained a cool distance from Ye Junhao. This was the first time she had ever made such a tender request.
A trace of softness crossed Ye Junhao's usually stern features. Whatever he was thinking, he reined it in slightly, locking eyes with her for a long moment before responding in a deep voice, "Alright."
