C19 He Bought Her Heart
Mu Chuchen had been whisked away by Duke Zhou.
As Ye Junhao gazed at his soundly sleeping wife, his heart swelled with joy.
Gently brushing the long hair from Mu Chuchen's face, he murmured into her ear, "Mu Chuchen, I've given you the chance to leave. If you choose not to, the only way out in the future will be over my dead body."
Upon waking the next morning, Mu Chuchen found herself alone in the room.
A note rested on the nightstand.
It was from Ye Junhao.
Sitting up, she reached for the note and read the bold, artistic script: Don't forget breakfast. I've taken Mu with me to work.
"He may be a bit of a wolf, but he sure knows how to look after someone."
Mu Chuchen set the note aside and reclined once more, her gaze fixed on the ceiling as she reminisced about the previous night. A sweet feeling filled her heart. Surely, after last night, Ye Junhao must believe she truly wanted to build a life with him.
"Knock, knock."
The sound of knocking came from the door.
Madam Hee's voice followed, "Madam, are you awake? Mrs. Mu and Second Lady Mu have arrived."
Mu Chuchen checked the time on her phone; it wasn't even nine o'clock.
"I'm up. Have them wait a moment," she called back to Madam Hee.
With Madam Hee's acknowledgment, she departed.
Mu Chuchen didn't rise immediately but was instead reminded of an event from her past life.
She recalled a day, around this time, though the exact moment was hazy in her memory.
Her stepmother and sister had invited her out for a meal, shopping, and more shopping—all on her dime.
Spending her money was one thing, but the duo had also schemed to entice her into sneaking a look at Jun's Group's confidential bidding price, even using Chung Sen as bait. She foolishly complied, resulting in a massive loss for Jun's Group.
Since she was the one who leaked the price, Ye Junhao, though furious, refrained from punishing her. However, his trust in her plummeted to zero from that point on.
Mu Chuchen spoke to herself with bitter resolve, "White Lotus, this lifetime is far from over between us. I won't rest until I've unveiled your schemes, or my name isn't Mu!"
Downstairs, Mu Xiaohuan was busy distributing gifts to the Ye Family's servants.
"Thank you, Second Lady, for your generosity once again."
"Thank you, Second Lady."
Su Shu watched her daughter with a smile, as Xiaohuan handed out the small gifts she had prepared to each of the servants.
Winning over people's hearts was something her daughter had always excelled at.
When Mu Chuchen descended the stairs, she caught sight of this scene. A smirk briefly played on her lips before she smoothed her expression and casually took a seat on the sofa.
The servants, clutching the gifts from Xiaohuan, cast anxious glances at Chuchen, worried she might take offense.
"Ms. Su," Chuchen greeted her stepmother with poised ease.
After a quick look at the aromatic tea and array of pastries on the coffee table, Chuchen smiled and addressed the servants, "You've all done a commendable job. You haven't let me down as the lady of the house. This month, I'm increasing your base salary by 2,000 Yuan, and your bonuses will be doubled. It will come from my account—no need to involve my husband."
Who doesn't know how to win hearts?
The servants' initial shock quickly turned to joy, and they thanked her profusely. In comparison to Xiaohuan's small gifts, Chuchen's salary increase won them over even more.
Madam Hee was quick to act, promptly serving Chuchen's breakfast. She set it before her with respect, saying, "Mrs. Mu, Sir instructed before he left that your breakfast should always be kept warm, so you can enjoy it whenever you rise."
Chuchen thanked her warmly and added, "Please go on with your tasks. If I need anything, I'll call for you."
"Yes, Mrs. Mu, we'll get back to work," they replied, departing with smiles.
Annoyance flickered in Xiaohuan's eyes, and even Su Shu's complexion seemed to sour.
