C2 I Regretted It

"I was wrong. Can we just live a good life together, please?"

Ye Junhao's grip on his son's hand tightened.

"I'm sorry. I've been too selfish before. It won't happen again."

Mu Chuchen apologized, her voice choked with tears.

She owed Ye Junhao an apology.

He had been so forgiving, always cleaning up after her messes, no matter how big. Whatever she desired, he would find a way to provide it for her.

And her?

She betrayed him, running off with Chung Sen.

An apology seemed insufficient for Ye Junhao to forgive her.

At last, a flicker of emotion crossed Ye Junhao's icy face—surprise.

"Why?"

His voice was deep and questioning.

Just yesterday, she had been so resolute in her jump into the river. Yet today, upon waking and seeing him, she wept as though she had lost her parents.

Then, she apologized to him.

She wasn't avoiding him as she usually did, not sparing him a glance, acting as if he carried a virus, and getting close would mean certain death.

"I... I just feel I owe you an apology." Mu Chuchen turned her face away, feeling guilty and unable to meet Ye Junhao's piercing gaze.

Noticing her evasion, Ye Junhao's lips twisted into a cold smirk.

Then, without another word, he carried his son past her and headed straight downstairs.

"Jun Hao..."

Mu Chuchen called out to him once more as she turned around.

Ye Junhao glanced back at her briefly but did not pause.

Mu Chuchen's heart quivered, yet she didn't blame Ye Junhao; she blamed herself.

It was all her fault.

She had been blind and foolish.

Her stepmother hadn't been looking out for her best interests; she wanted Mu Chuchen away from Ye Junhao so her stepsister could take her place.

After lingering at the top of the stairs for a moment, Mu Chuchen returned to her room.

One thing was clear: she would never leave her husband and son again, not in this lifetime.

Having made up her mind, Mu Chuchen promptly did her hair and makeup, changed her clothes, and hurried downstairs, hoping to spend some time with her husband and son before Ye Junhao took their child out.

From the moment Ye Mu was born, Ye Junhao was the one who cared for him.

Now, Ye Mu is over two years old.

Ye Junhao plans to enroll his son in kindergarten when he turns three, hoping this will give him a bit of a break.

Throughout this time, he never counted on his wife to lend a hand with their son.

Despite being Ye Mu's biological mother, Mu Chuchen was far from maternal. She was reckless during her pregnancy, intentionally tumbling down stairs and bumping her abdomen against heavy objects in an attempt to miscarry.

Had Ye Junhao not hired round-the-clock surveillance, Ye Mu might never have been born.

After Ye Mu's birth, fearing Mu Chuchen might harm their son, Ye Junhao never let her near the child.

Mu Chuchen's indifference toward her son was colder than that of a stranger.

If Ye Mu fell, she wouldn't pick him up but would instead scold him loudly, frightening him into crying even more. At times, annoyed by his crying, she would pick him up and lock him in a room, euphemistically calling it "time in the little black room."

The incident Ye Junhao found most unforgivable occurred when their son was playing by the pool and fell in. Chuchen, engrossed in her phone nearby, was oblivious. Thankfully, Ye Junhao noticed just in time. When he pulled Ye Mu out, the boy was understandably terrified and had swallowed quite a bit of water.

After that, Ye Junhao decreed that the pools, both inside and outside, be emptied, effectively rendering two swimming pools useless.

With such a malicious mother, how could Ye Junhao trust Mu Chuchen to care for their son?

Following these events, Ye Junhao began taking his son to work with him. It's fair to say that Ye Mu grew up in Ye Junhao's office.
