C3 Indifference
Downstairs, Ye Junhao was busy feeding his son breakfast. The little guy seemed to have lost his appetite, likely spooked by his mother's odd behavior. Concerned that his son might be unwell, Ye Junhao gently touched his forehead to check for a fever, but thankfully there wasn't one.
"Mu, come on, eat your porridge. Once you're done, we'll head out. Daddy has two meetings this morning," Ye Junhao coaxed, his usually reserved demeanor softening considerably with his son.
Ye Mu pushed the spoon away with his small hand and shook his head, "I don't want to eat."
Ms. Zhang, the attentive maid standing by, asked with concern, "Sir, is the Young Master feeling alright?"
Ye Junhao and Mu Chuchen did not reside in the Ye Family mansion, as Mu Chuchen had fallen out of favor with the entire clan. At the mansion, she was ignored by everyone, and the less attention she received, the more disruptive she became.
To ensure peace for his family, Ye Junhao had no choice but to move with his wife and child to a villa he owned in the Golden Phoenix Villa District.
The staff was newly hired, not from the old mansion, hence they referred to Ye Junhao as "Mister" rather than "Young Master."
Putting down the bowl, Ye Junhao lifted his son into his arms and checked his forehead once more; it was a normal temperature.
At that moment, Mu Chuchen descended the stairs.
Hearing the footsteps, Ms. Zhang hurried over to greet her. "Madam, will you be having breakfast now?" she asked respectfully.
Mu Chuchen's eyes lingered on her husband and son before she responded warmly to Ms. Zhang, "Could you please bring out my breakfast? Thank you."
Ms. Zhang, who was accustomed to walking on eggshells around Mu Chuchen, expecting criticism at every turn, was taken aback by the polite exchange. If it weren't for the generous salary from Ye Junhao, she would have left long ago. She had worked for several employers but had never served a mistress as challenging as Mu Chuchen.
Now, hearing Mu Chuchen's mild tone and receiving thanks, Ms. Zhang's mouth fell open in astonishment, wondering if she had misheard.
Mu Chuchen hadn't noticed any change in Ms. Zhang's demeanor. After giving her instructions, she approached Ye Junhao and his son.
Upon seeing her, Ye Mu clung tightly to his father's neck and said timidly, "Daddy, Mommy is mean."
"Mu, don't be scared. Daddy's here."
Unaware that her son was frightened of her, Mu Chuchen walked over and noticed that he hadn't eaten much of his breakfast. She asked with concern, "What's wrong, Mu?"
As she spoke, she reached out to touch his forehead, but the little boy quickly swatted her hand away, refusing to let her touch him.
He pressed himself further into Jun Hao's arms, his fear so evident that it made Mu Chuchen feel like crying. She regretted how she had treated her son in the past, leading him to fear his own mother.
"You've frightened Mu," Ye Junhao stated icily.
Chuchen felt mortified. "I—I was just concerned about Mu."
"Your kind of concern is a terror to Mu. Please refrain from touching him without thought in the future."
Mu Chuchen pleaded, "Jun Hao, believe me, I truly care about Mu."
Ye Junhao's gaze was icy. "You locked Mu in a dark room, and he fell into the swimming pool while you were busy on your phone. Is that how you show your concern for Mu?"
"That was all in the past."
"No, the incident with the swimming pool happened just last Saturday."
Mu Chuchen was at a loss for words.
After a long pause, she lowered her gaze. "Jun Hao, I'm sorry. I apologize. I realize my mistake."
Ye Junhao snorted coldly, clearly unconvinced that she acknowledged her wrongdoing.
She was probably biding her time, trying to lull him into complacency before striking at him and his son again.
"Sit down!" Ye Junhao commanded sternly. "Your presence here is overwhelming for Mu."
