C30 There Are too Many Insects in the Flower!
"Mu Chuchen, how long does it take to brew a pot of tea when I ask you to?"
Ye Lan's voice echoed with impatience.
"It's ready."
Mu Chuchen, with a teapot in hand and a smile on her face, gracefully walked past Ye Junhao, playfully touching his cheek that bore the mark of a bite.
Ye Junhao's hand shot out in an attempt to catch her teasing hand, but he was a moment too late.
Mu Chuchen looked back with a grin. As Ye Junhao moved to catch her, she stepped out of the tea room with ease.
"Daddy."
The little one, unhappy about being set down, tugged at his father's pants.
Ye Junhao stooped to lift his beloved son, observing the rosy flush on the child's pale face. He couldn't resist playfully biting his son's cheek.
Ye Mu winced, his lips puckering and tears gathering in his eyes, looking up at his father with a sense of injustice, not understanding why he would bite him.
"Daddy, give me a kiss back."
Ye Junhao obliged with a kiss, and the little one's pout transformed back to normal, easily appeased.
Stepping out of the tea room, Ye Junhao resumed his persona of an icy, untouchable heartthrob.
"I've changed my mind; I don't want tea anymore. I want juice. Mu Chuchen, would you squeeze some juice for me?"
"Mom, you asked for water, and I poured it for you. You requested tea, and I brewed it. Now you're asking for juice. Are you intentionally trying to trouble me?"
"What's the matter? As your mother-in-law, can't I ask you to do a simple task?"
"Ms. Ye, allow me to do it."
"See how considerate Yuyi is, far more so than you. A girl like her is sure to be favored by the elders. Mu Chuchen, you could stand to take a page from her book."
Ye Junhao interjected with a firm tone, "I adore Chuchen just the way she is. Mom, you don't even drink tea, yet you had Chuchen brew some. Then you decide you don't want it. It does seem like you're trying to give Chuchen a hard time."
He didn't give his mother a chance to argue back, continuing, "Mom, I'm swamped with work. If there's something you need, let's wait until I come back over the weekend. Miss Shen has just returned from abroad, why don't you show her around?"
Ye Lan was fuming.
She couldn't fathom what spell Mu Chuchen had cast on her son; no matter what, he always took Mu Chuchen's side.
It was infuriating!
Shen Yuyi, who had intended to make some juice, was torn between going and staying.
"Jun Hao, what's happened to your face?"
Shen Yuyi inquired with sudden concern.
Ye Lan also noticed the bite marks on her son's face.
"It's a mark from my wife," Ye Junhao replied, his deep voice tinged with smugness.
Ye Lan and Shen Yuyi were speechless...
"Ming Yu," Ye Junhao called out.
Ming Yu promptly entered.
"Boss."
"Escort the lady and Miss Shen out."
Ye Lan grabbed her purse and said icily, "No need, we'll leave on our own. Yuyi, come on. Ms. Ye will take you shopping. You've just returned and don't have a place to stay. I promised your mother I'd look after you, so you'll move into our house. It'll be nice to have some company."
Shen Yuyi stole a glance at Ye Junhao, whose expression was stony.
Then she looked at Mu Chuchen, who appeared completely unfazed by the prospect of Shen Yuyi moving into the Ye Family's old mansion, since Ye Junhao didn't live there anyway.
Ye Lan stormed off in a huff.
Shen Yuyi, reluctant to leave, had no choice but to follow.
Mu Chuchen, assuming the role of the hostess, escorted the guests to the door and politely called after Shen Yuyi, "Miss Shen, have a safe journey."
Shen Yuyi turned back to look at her, and the two women locked gazes, silently clashing for what felt like an eternity. Mu Chuchen emerged slightly victorious, and Shen Yuyi departed in a huff.
After slamming the office door shut, Mu Chuchen turned to Ye Junhao and managed to say, "Top-quality flower."
Ye Junhao looked puzzled.
"It attracts a lot of insects!"
Ye Junhao remained silent...
