C19 The Ugly Gold Digger

Moo Nuannuan glanced at Shi Ye to see that he hadn't looked at her the moment he stepped into the living room. Perhaps he hadn't seen her being intimate with Mu Jiachen. That was good; she was safe for now at least. All she needed to think about ways to get rid of the man while they were still both alive. Not bothering to say another word, she sprinted into a kitchen like a mice scurrying back into her hole. Her cheeks were flushed, but they were easily covered by the thick foundation that had marred the sides of her face. Why the hell did her life have to come to this?

As soon as she had entered the kitchen, Mu Tingxiao sat on the sofa. He was staring right head as if there was no one else in the room, and a small amused smile could be seen playing on his lips. It was obvious that he wasn't in the mood to discuss anything with his assistant, nor did he want him around as well.

Seeing this, Shi Ye turned around and left.

Even if he had worked for the man for years, there were just some times where he'd be left confused. And at this point, Shi Ye knew for a fact that his boss wasn't the type to explain himself after every act he had committed. Either way, it was best to leave it as it was. This plan was meant to brew nothing but trouble, and he aimed to play no part in this.

In the kitchen, Moo Nuannuan opened the refrigerator to see that it was filled with meat and vegetables. They all seemed very fresh, looking as if they were just bought from the marketplace. Not thinking much about it, she took a few sticks of lemongrass from the fridge and laid them all over the countertop. What the heck was she going to cook for him now? Her jaw clenched.

Just as she was about to grab some meat in the fridge, a thought occurred to her. Didn't Mu Jiachen cook her breakfast that morning when she had first arrived? There weren't any maids around, so that would mean that he knew how to cook! Her hands fidgeted.

Although she couldn't understand why such a rich man would learn to do something so menial, it still meant that she didn't need to cook for him! He already knew his way around the cutlery, and the breakfast she had the other day was quite light and delectable. The man could easily cook these meals himself. She didn't have to follow him around like some lapdog he thought she was!

Did he really think she was some sort of house mat he could walk all over?

Sneering, Moo Nuannuan stuffed the ingredients back into the fridge. Damn that man to hell!

She walked back into the living room to see Mu Jiachen sitting on the sofa and looking at his phone. He seemed to be lost in his thoughts with the way he continuously scrolled down the app. After peering at him to make sure that the coast was clear, she quickly made her way up the stairs, not bothering to look back. That bastard could cook for himself! She smirked triumphantly.

Maybe the reason why he thought he could bully her easily was because he thought of her as a mouse–meek and easily defeated. Well, not anymore!

The fact that Mu Jiachen could live in Mu Tingxiao's villa even if it was only for a few days proved that the two cousins were extremely close with each other. In fact, from an outsider's perspective, they may even seem to be blood brothers with how easily they've mentioned each other.

Given that they were so close, there was no way Mu Jiachen would tell him that she had seduced him–not if he wanted to drive a division between them. After all, she may have been ugly, but letting another man take her was another thing. Not only would that hurt Mu Tingxiao's ego, but it would certainly make him be driven by resentment–if his monstrous personality proved to be a fact.

There was no way he'd say a thing!

Making up her mind, she sprinted up to her bedroom.

Besides, it wasn't like she needed to eat.

Mu Tingxiao waited in the living room for a long time, but there was still no sign of Moo Nuannuan. Even his thumb had grown tired of scrolling down his emails that he couldn't help but look around. There wasn't any noise coming from the kitchen, and he certainly didn't see a strangely tanned face peering through the corners. Was she still there? He furrowed his eyebrows.

He slowly strode towards the kitchen, wanting to see what all the fuss was about. "Have you fainted or something, sister-in-law?"

However, it was only until he had gotten closer did he realize that there was no trace of her in the kitchen! The ugly woman had outsmarted him!

"Interesting," he murmured, shaking his head in amusement. It seemed that she was finally learning.

That night, Moo Nuannuan slept with a smile on her face. All she could think about was how long Mu Jiachen had waited in that living room until he figured out that she wasn't there! The thought was enough to send her into a fit of giggles as she clutched her stomach to steady herself. This was the first time she had ever felt so carefree...and alive. Ah, it was certainly a night worth remembering.

However, her giddiness had fell to an end in the morning when her phone rang.

Who the heck was calling her at this hour? Glancing at her phone, she saw that the Caller ID belonged to Shen Liang. She was the only good friend she had back in the city, but she had gone overseas to film for the last three months. There wasn't any news as to when her friend was returning, so upon seeing her name popping out on her screen, Moo Nuannuan didn't hesitate to answer.

"Liang, are you coming back?"

"You bet I will!" However, her voice had a tinge of annoyance. "I'll come back and chop you to bits!"

Her screams echoed across the room, and she had to stretch out her hand to avoid hurting her own eardrums.

"What is it now?" Moo Nuannuan whined.

"Check out Weibo. Girl, I've just been gone for three months, and now you're at the front page! 'The Ugly Gold Digger', it says! Oh, just they wait, I'm going to sue these people!"

Shen Liang gritted her teeth anxiously. "Go! Open it now."

The Ugly Gold Digger? The smile on Moo Nuannuan's face faded almost immediately as her thumb hovered across her screen. What the hell was the news on about now? "Don't panic first," she said, trying to calm her friend down. "Let me see what's going on. You can't get all violent on me, okay? Just–just stay where you are, and I'll fix whatever's happening, got it?"

"Fix? Ugh, have you even read the articles?" Shen Liang snapped. "I'm already at the airport. I'll be there in a few hours."

"I...I'll see in you a few hours then," she stuttered out, surprised that her friend's reaction time was that fast.

It was only when she hung up the phone did Moo Nuannuan check on her Weibo.

There it was. The Ugly Gold Digger.

Moo Nuannuan clicked on the page, scrolling down. As she read even further, her face only grew darker. What the heck was this bullshit?

Although the Weibo post only mentioned a few names, it was obviously alluding to the Moo family and her engagement with Mu Tingxiao. Her thumb trembled as she took in the comments section, wanting nothing more than to bash every single one of them in the skull. Her face may seem indifferent by their comments, but in reality, she was practically shaking from the anger.

The articles stated that in order to marry into the Mu family, she had forged a few papers to replace her sister Moo Wanqi. As if that was what she had done!

It even said that Moo Wanqi had always doted on her and that Moo Nuannuan was the one who betrayed her. That bitch!
