C33 Your Boyfriend Cares About You

Out of reflex, Moo Nuannuan wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head into his chest. The iciness of his skin gave off a sense of comfort, and she couldn't help but relax. It was only when she heard another car honk from the background did she snap back to reality. Her hands crept up to his chest, and she froze. What the hell was she doing with him? Dread quickly washed over her as her fingers curled into small fists.

"Mu Jiachen!" She screamed at the top of her lungs. A few pedestrians had glanced her way, but as soon as they saw the man holding her, they quickly scurried off. The man was probably someone she knew, and they were afraid to overstep their boundaries. Even then, she didn't stop struggling. "Put me down."

Unfazed by the frustration gleaming in her eyes, Mu Tingxiao only tightened his grip and pushed her into the passenger seat. No matter how many times she kicked her legs up in the air or pounded his chest with her fists, he still didn't back down as he closed the door beside her. "Don't move."

"You wish!" As soon as he had plopped her onto the leather seat, she reached out to grab the car door. With everything that had happened in the press conference and the night before, the last person she wanted to talk to was him! "Y–You...get me out of here!"

Mu Tingxiao had already expected her to try and fight back. Just as her hand was about to reach for the handle, he held the door with one hand and placed his other hand on the back of her seat, trapping her. A small devious smile crept into his lips. "If you want to get off the car, fine," he spoke. "But you'd have to let me kiss you. It's the only way."

As if a spell had been cast upon her, Moo Nuannuan froze. Although the reporters had left the building, they wouldn't have gone very far, and if they'd this happening–they'd be on the front page. She'd be dead. Instead of fighting back, she reeled herself to a stop and gritted her teeth. "You really are the shameless man I've ever met."

"I'm flattered." Closing the door beside her, he walked to the driver's seat.

They drove past the street in peace, but the tension in the atmosphere still hadn't faded. Even as a few minutes had passed, she couldn't bring herself to look at him, far too intrigued by the pedestrians walking down the next block. Her eyebrows were knitted together in annoyance, and her fists couldn't stop shaking. The nerve of this guy!

"You haven't answered my question," he said faintly, still staring straight ahead.

What question? Moo Nuannuan was stunned for a moment until she remembered the harsh words he had stated. 'Do you want to be killed or something?' His voice echoed at the back of her mind, and the grip she had on her clothes tightened even further.

Turning to the side, she shot him a glare. "Whatever," she snapped. "If you're looking to blackmail me or anything, then I'll tell you right now that it wouldn't work!"

Ha! As the days went by, she had started to grow out of her shell a bit more. Gone were the days when she was slow and quiet. Instead, it was soon replaced with a well-spoken tigress, one that he had found hidden after all this time. The corners of his lips rose. "Your husband has the brightest future among all the men in Huyang City," he said mockingly. "Why would I blackmail you? Do you think I'm that stupid?"

Although these words were spoken almost sparingly at her, there was a sense of pride twisted into his voice. It was as if he was proud of her for her response...but why? It wasn't as if she was complimenting him or anything. She was actually just talking about his cousin.

She couldn't help but find him a bit strange. Were they the type of family who shared joy for their individual achievements? Were they really that close?

Moo Nuannuan carefully glanced up at Mu Jiachen, analyzing the playfulness etched upon his face. Seeing as he was still the same person that he had always been, she slowly shrugged in response. Perhaps she was thinking into things far too much. However, at his words, she couldn't help but think back to the interview.

If he had seen the interview that fast, did Mu Tingxiao see it too?

Her stomach stirred uncomfortably.

The Mu family's attitude was actually very blunt from the start. Although they had suppressed a few articles relating to Mu Tingxiao's disability, they made no move to cover up any news about her. It seemed that as long as their Young Master wasn't involved, they couldn't really give a damn about the others. It had given her enough room to move around, at least...but her answers regardingTingxiao...

The reporters have crossed the line today by peering far into Mu Tingxiao's personal life. Although her answers were enough to grant the two of them some dignity, she couldn't help but wonder if that was enough to please him.

There was a moment of silence before she looked up at him. "Has your cousin seen the interview?"

Upon hearing the hesitation in her tone, his eyes lit up in surprise. "He saw it."

"Then he..."

"He was very angry."

Angry? His words didn't make her feel any better as she shifted on her seat. Although he didn't say as to whom she was angry at, Moo Nuannuan felt a twinge of discomfort. That was the only thing she was guilty about–that she had to drag Mu Tingxiao into this when he was nothing more than a victim in this situation.

Gazing out the window, she noticed that they were still heading up North–far from the mountains. "Where are you going?" She sat up straighter. "I'm heading back to the villa."

He acted as if he couldn't hear her and continued to drive. A few minutes had passed, and he parked the car right next to a small clinic on the narrow side of the road. There weren't any cars parked around the area. The place looked quite solemn, different from the hustle and bustle of the city hospitals.

It was only when he had opened the passenger door did he glance at her. "Can you walk? Or should I carry you?"

"I can walk," she murmured, quickly getting off the car.

They walked into the clinic, and she took this time to look around. "Are you planning to buy some medicine?"

He still didn't answer as he looked around, calling for one of the doctors to address them. A man with a white coat strode up to them, glancing at the two of them respectfully. "Good day," the doctor greeted. "Is there any problem?"

"Her leg is injured," he responded. "Do you mind checking on it?"

Moo Nuannuan froze.

Not only did Mu Jiachen carry her to his car, but he had also driven her to the clinic to look for a doctor. She glanced at her legs. Although she was wearing thick clothes to combat the cool weather, she could still feel them aching every time she moved. It seemed that the fall had really taken a toll on her.

As soon as the doctor heard him, he glanced at her. "Why don't you come in and let me take a look at it for you? Where does it hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt that much," she said quickly. "I really am fine."

Mu Jiachen showed no expression when he gazed at her. Although he also didn't speak, his handsome face held a hint of sharpness and regalness. This man was no light-hearted playboy, she realized as she continued to stare up at him. Instead, he had an aura of a king–one that demanded all the respect in the world. It was as if the man had turned a one-eighty on her overnight.

And it was exactly this that made her panic.

Upon hearing her response, the doctor chuckled. He glanced at Mu Tingxiao once again before waving his hand. "It's obvious that your boyfriend cares about you," he insisted, leading them into a more private setup. "Why don't you just sit there and allow me to take a look."

"I...no, you have it all wrong," she stuttered. "We aren't...He's not my boyfriend!"

However, he didn't deny the doctor's proclamations at all. Instead, he nodded at the female doctor who was standing not far away from them. "Is it all right to ask the female doctor to take a look at her, instead? Just to make her feel at ease," he stated.

"Of course." The middle-aged man didn't even hesitate as he called the female doctor over.

As soon as the female doctor came over, her cheeks immediately flushed at the sight of Mu Tingxiao. All her life working in this clinic, she had never seen someone as handsome as him. However, she didn't let that affect her work as she rolled up Moo Nuannuan's pants to see the damage inflicted on her knees.

Her legs were slender and creamy–a sharp contrast from her splotchy face. "Your legs look amazing," the doctor praised. "You could be a model if you want to, you know."

"I...Thank you." She quickly pulled down her pants just a bit. Seeing that Mu Jiachen was right behind her, she couldn't bear to watch him gaze at her like this. Not only was it uncomfortable, but it also might arouse his suspicions even more. There was no way he was going to let her live this down after this.

Her knees were a bit swollen–yes, but they weren't injured! As long as she'd do some cold compress at home, she'd be fine. She didn't even know what Mu Jiachen was thinking in bringing her here!

Turning her head inadvertently, she was met his cool gaze.

He stared at her legs as if he couldn't care less. "At least your head's not the only one that's hard," he murmured.

At that time, when Mu Tingxiao had seen her fall onto the pavement, a part of him felt a bit panicked, especially when she didn't get up for a long time. He really thought that her leg was seriously injured, so he immediately brought her here to get it checked out.

Now that it wasn't anything serious, he couldn't help but sigh in relief.

Although her legs looked fine, the doctor still prescribed some antibiotics to decrease the risk of infection as well as added an ointment to for the swelling. "If anything comes up in the next few days, then you should bring her back here, okay?" The female doctor quickly led them out of the clinic, waving them off.

Once they had finally exited the clinic, Mu Tingxiao walked straight to the passenger door and pulled it open. A few seconds had passed, and there was still no movement from the other end. Only when he had turned around did he see that Moo Nuannuan still made no signs of moving.

"What? Are your legs hurting again?" He squinted. "Do you want me to carry you?"

Moo Nuannuan had always been patient, especially given that she had been dealing with her vicious family for so long. But there was something about Mu Jiachen's presence that pushed her buttons to no end. She clenched her fists and exhaled heavily, trying to restrain herself from cursing at him.

"Thank you for today, really," she said seriously. "I don't want to trouble you any further. I'll be taking a taxi back."

Staring at the impassive expression on her face, he took this time to lean against the car door. "Don't worry, I'm not busy," he said lightly. "I'll just be having dinner with a friend of mine. Let's go together. It would hit two birds with one stone, anyway."

Moo Nuannuan didn't respond as she turned around to leave.

Why the hell did he keep pestering her?

Did he find her ugliness unique?

However, just as she was about to hail for a taxi, she could hear his voice sounding right behind her.

He seemed to be talking with someone on the phone.

"I'm outside. I met with my sister-in-law, so we decided to have dinner together," his easy voice echoed across the street. "Cousin, you wouldn't mind if I take her out for a bit, would you? After all, we see each other every day. It's like I know her like the back of my hand!"

Moo Nuannuan froze, feeling as if he had just thrown chains around her body. She glanced back to see Mu Jiachen smirking at her, motioning to the phone he was holding. She didn't need to be smart to sense the underlying threat in his words.

If she took another step forward, he'd say something along the lines of her trying to seduce him. And if he was right–that Mu Tingxiao really was angry about the interview that had just transpired–she certainly wouldn't get out of this situation unscathed. It was better not to add fuel to the flame.

Clenching her fists, she finally walked up to Mu Jiachen.

"Sister-in-law, get in the car first," he said. Satisfaction flashed in his eyes. "Cousin and I still have a few things we need to talk about."

Seeing her obediently getting in the car, he lowered his phone. There was no Caller ID being displayed. In fact, the only thing that could be seen was his lock screen. "Ah," he whispered to himself. "Although you're smart, you can't necessarily outsmart me." There was laughter in his voice as he 'ended' the call and joined her in the car.
