C35 Couldn't Clear Up

After Moo Nuannuan finished her press conference, she had planned to watch it again on Weibo, wanting to see if she had gotten any comments from the netizens. However, before she could, Mu Jiachen had already pestered her to join him for lunch. She suppressed the urge to roll her eyes as she stared at her screen. Well, nothing's stopping her from checking it now.

Turning on her computer, she logged in on her Weibo account. Immediately, she was spammed with all these press releases. It seemed that all the media outlets had gotten whiff of the growing trend, and it was more popularized when many famous accounts had reposted the videos with their own comments.

The majority of the netizens were scolding her, just like she had expected. After all, it would be difficult to please everyone. However, there were a few rational people who analyzed her answers more carefully.

"I knew it! The bitch was just putting herself in the spotlight," one of them commented, adding a few emojis at the end. "Bet the others who supported her are now hiding in embarrassment, eh? What else do you have to say?"

"Arrogant! She even wore a mask when she was interviewed! Why? Is she so afraid to show her face?"

"Am I the only one who thinks that the way she answered the press was kinda cool? Just me? Okay."

"I realized that she never really admitted to actually stealing her sister's fiancé from the start. And look at the pause at the end! You think she's still being controlled?" That was a more insightful comment.

The corners of her lips twitched up.

She had deliberately avoided that question. If Moo Nuannuan admitted that she had really stolen Moo Wanqi's fiancé, who knew what that woman would try and do to sir more trouble in the future? As much as possible, she tried to steer the interview to the relationship she had with her family rather than to her relationship with Mu Tingxiao. Although there were a few slip-ups on the reporters' parts, she had still succeeded.

She continued to scroll through the comments, scanning every single netizen. The ones who were more observant with the way she had answered the questions were quite hard to come by, she noticed. Truly, many of them were more willing to accept things at face value.

"Can't wait for the next episode," one of them commented playfully, adding a winky face at the end.

Ever since Moo Nuannuan saw the Moo family for their true colors, her patience had run out. There was no way she was going to back down and obey them like before. The moment they had treated her like a lamb for slaughter was the day that their family ties were extinguished. This matter was still not settled.

A few seconds had passed of scrolling and the comments suddenly turned into heartless bashes against her. Many of them weren't even making sense anymore as they called her names and insulted her looks.

It was obvious that they were all trolls hired by Moo Wanqi.

She shrugged, not at all worried about her actions.

Moo Wanqi had plenty of skeletons in her closet. After all, they lived under the same roof, so it was easy for her to find tons of blackmail material. Moo Nuannuan leaned against her pillow, and the corners of her lips twitched. "Hmm," she hummed to herself, immediately scrolling past them as if they were nothing more than annoying flies attached to her screen.

Today, the Moo family would celebrate a job well done, but tomorrow was another story. Tomorrow, they would finally get what was coming for them.

The things that she'd release were things that Moo Wanqi couldn't clear up no matter how many press conferences they'd hold.

After reading through the comments, Moo Nuannuan decided to take her mind from her bashers and logged into her email instead. A few replies were saying how they were looking forward to seeing her in the interview, but there was an unread email that caught her eye.

She froze.

It was an invitation from Shengding Media! They were inviting her in for an interview!

Had she submitted her resume to Shengding Media by accident?

She checked her mailbox several times, only to see that she hadn't submitted her resume to the company. In fact, how the hell did they even know her name or even have her email addresses? Apart from being a graduate at one of the top film academies, there was no way they'd find her!

Suddenly, she flashed back to to the time Mu Jiachen had taken her to have lunch with Gu Zhiyan.

Moo Nuannuan glanced at the time that the email was sent. It was sent at nine in the morning–the time that she was still in the middle of an interview. Did that mean that they've known her through the press conference? Or was there something going on behind the scenes?

Perhaps Mu Jiachen had something to do with this.

In the hall, Mu Tingxiao was sitting on the sofa this entire time. He had a long day today, so he decided to relax and play some games on his phone. However, it seemed that his moment of peace was coming to an end when his other phone rang out.

Shi Ye stood behind him and clicked the 'answer' button before immediately turning on the speaker.

"I just went out to have a meal with the Young Master, and when I returned, these directors were about to screw me up!" Gu Zhiyan's frantic voice echoed across the living room. "They want him to attend the next General Meeting! If you don't get him to come, I'll really jump off the building this time around!"

Shi Ye glanced at his boss, who was too engrossed with playing. "Young Master is very busy."

"Really?" He snorted in disbelief. "I dare you to put this on a video call. Let me see how busy your boss is!"

"Fine, let me video call him," Mu Tingxiao said faintly.

Sometimes, Shi Ye wondered whether his boss was actually trying to anger Director Gu to death. It always seemed like he was going through such lengths just to show how relaxed his life was compared to the man in the phone. "Hold on," he said.

He turned on the video call and faced the camera to Mu Tingxiao. Even then, the man still hadn't straightened his back and was still too engrossed with the games on his phone. The man didn't look like the most prestigious man in the city; instead, some might find him similar to that of a kid.

As soon as Gu Zhiyan saw him, he jumped up from his seat. "Do you know how much those old bastards tortured me for answers?" He slammed his hands onto the table, yelling at the top of his lungs. "And you're over there playing video games? Are you serious?"

"Yes," he said as if he couldn't care less. He glanced at the staircase to see Moo Nuannuan coming down from the staircase.

Glancing at Shi Ye, the younger man understood what was going on. "Director Gu, I'll be hanging up now."

Gu Zhiyan saw Moo Nuannuan heading downstairs at the corner of his screen. His eyebrows rose, and curiosity flashed in his eyes. Wanting to see how they interacted with each other, he threatened, "If you dare hang up on me, I'll die right in front of you!"

Shi Ye knew very well that even if he hung up, Gu Zhiyan wouldn't die. In fact, the man had threatened his death far too many times that almost no one treated him seriously. Surprisingly, the young man didn't hang up nor did he turn the video call off. Instead, he simply lowered the volume as to not arouse any suspicion.

Moo Nuannuan saw Mu Jiachen in the hall on the second-floor hallway, so she came down to look for him. Upon walking closer, she saw that Shi Ye was there too.

However, instead of glancing up at her, he was too busy typing in his phone. He didn't even bother to address her as if he hadn't just seen her. Was he turning a blind eye? Relieved, she faced Mu Jiachen.

"I have something to ask you." She sat opposite to him.

Only then did he look up from his phone. "What is it?"

"Are you very close to Mr. Gu from the Shengding Media?"

Mu Tingxiao paused, only to see that his character was killed by the enemy in the game. 'Good riddance,' he thought bitterly, finally focusing his entire attention on the woman in front of him. His eyes were narrowed.

Casually tossing his phone to the side, he leaned to the side. "Why? You like him?"

"Can't you talk more nicely?"

He placed his arms on the back of the sofa and leaned back. A playful smile threaded her lips. "Why don't you sit next to me? Maybe I'll respond even more nicely," he said invitingly, patting his hand right next to him.

"It's fine if you don't want to answer." Standing up, she was about to leave.

However, just as she was about to head out, she heard Mu Tingxiao's voice sounding behind her, "Weren't you looking for a job recently?"

"I–how did you know?"

He shrugged, not answering her question. "Gu Zhiyan told me that their company needed some fresh blood. That's why he randomly selected some college graduates to join his company. Of course, their position is still unsure, but the opportunity is there."

As soon as he finished speaking, his gaze fell on her. Looking her up and down, his face morphed into a scowl. "Have you received an invitation for an interview from the company?"

Although his expression hadn't changed, Moo Nuannuan could see the contempt in his eyes. Her fists tightened, and she immediately turned away. The last thing she needed was for her to owe him or something like that!

Masking her scowl with a fake smile, she said snidely, "Even if I have received an invitation, I still wouldn't go."

Without another word, she left his line of sight.

Mu Tingxiao narrowed his eyes at her receding back, watching as she disappeared into her bedroom. For a long time, he maintained his straight posture and still didn't move. It was as if she had electrocuted him. He gritted his teeth.

Did she just challenge him?

Shi Ye had never seen his boss so angry before. The atmosphere around them had dropped a couple of degrees, and everyone in their right mind would run the other way. His fingers twitched suddenly as his forehead crumbled.

He wanted to hang up the phone, but when he glanced down at his screen, he realized that Gu Zhiyan had already done it for him. Perhaps the young man had already decided to run away. It was better this way.

Just then, Mu Tingxiao's phone suddenly rang out.

It was Gu Zhiyan.

"If you want to jump off the building, then go do it," he said coldly as soon as he picked up the phone. "You don't have to tell me."

Unexpectedly, Gu Zhiyan burst into laughter. "Ah, I wouldn't be so arrogant if I were you," he sang mockingly. "It's just so ironic. You've used your privilege to get her a job, but she doesn't even want to take it. That's just tragic, isn't it?"

He then added, "Even the thought of how angry you are is enough to bring me to tears! I never knew that woman had it in her!"

Mu Tingxiao's lips curled. "If she doesn't enter the company, then I wouldn't go to any General Meeting you have. You can count on that."

"I...I was wrong." He immediately lost all confidence.

However, before Gu Zhiyan could apologize, Mu Tingxiao had already hung up the phone.
