C36 Who Would Do Something Like This?
The Moo Family's Villa
Moo Wanqi leaned on the sofa and flipped through her phone, smirking as all the trolling comments shot up to the top of their lists. She had made sure to pay a large sum of money to get people to bash her sister. There was enough of them to get the other media outlets to change their votes and their sides regarding the problem.
Although Moo Nuannuan had claimed that she didn't have anything to do with the paparazzi, she didn't believe so. In fact, no matter how her stupid sister had pushed her to believe otherwise, Moo Wanqi always believed that she had something to do with this. But it didn't matter. The woman didn't think of the whole picture when she had gone against her, and now she was paying the price.
Seeing her being bashed continuously, Moo Wanqi squealed in ecstasy.
Even if their conversation was caught on film, that didn't matter anymore. The netizens all had a short attention span anyway, especially when it came to these types of gossip. Now that Moo Nuannuan had admitted in front of all the media outlets that she was simply hyping herself up to get a better job, that would be the only thing that these people would concentrate on. After all, they were all for focusing on things at face value.
Agh! The woman had the nerve to fight with her!
Moo Wanqi continued to scroll down before heading off to bed, satisfied with the outcome.
However, what she didn't expect was for her name to blow up once again. This time, it wasn't good, and her phone was continuously blowing up. Her screen flickered under the dark as her notifications started to increase by the second. At this point, it was almost impossible to ignore it. Glaring at the ceiling, she picked it up and answered one of the calls, "Hello?"
"Wanqi! Someone just released your old videos, and they immediately shot up to trending list," she whispered. "What's going on? Have you offended someone?"
Had she offended someone? As soon as she heard of her 'old videos', her heart stirred in her chest. They obviously weren't any good.
Frustrated and annoyed, Moo Wanqi pulled a strand of her hair as she waited for her Weibo to load. As soon as the site was refreshed, her name was on top of the trending list, and she immediately saw her face being tagged under all these social media outlets. Upon scanning through the explicit pictures posted online, her face paled.
No matter where she looked, there were plenty of people talking about her. Acquaintances were expressing their surprise upon seeing her in these pictures, while there were even more netizens who showed their disapproval as if they had known her all along.
All of these pictures and videos showcased her indecent behavior. From her acting lewdly in front of different men to her dancing up on the bar, they were all posted all over the web. "What the hell?" She gritted her teeth, narrowing her eyes at every single one of them. Where the hell did they get them?
Although the Moo's was not as prestigious as the Mu family, they were certainly quite reputable. To others, Moo Wanqi was an angel–a classical beauty–one reeked of innocence. All of her friends included women from good families, and they were all respected by the upper class. Any woman would want to be them while any man would want to be with them.
However, it seemed that these appearances were only on surface level. In reality, they did all kinds of lewd things behind everyone's back.
"How could this be? Who the hell would release these?" Her hands trembled.
There were many netizens who tagged her name to bash her.
"Bitch! Shameless!"
"You still have the face to ask your sister to clear things up for you? Let's see her clear this up now!"
Moo Wanqi was tempted to respond to them.
However, she froze, thinking of Shen Chuhan.
It was midnight now, so he probably wouldn't have the time to scroll down his Weibo and see all these videos and photos posted online. That meant she was safe for now. Her shoulders sagged in relief as she checked her messages, seeing that the man still hadn't messaged her. He still didn't know. Maybe there was still a chance that she could salvage this.
If Shen Chuhan were to see them now, their relationship was finished!
Putting on some decent clothes, she knocked on Moo Liyan's door. "Dad," she yelled out, her voice strained and panicked. "Help me remove some posts from the trending list!"
On the other side of the city, Moo Nuannuan hugged her knees and sat on the bed. She was too busy chatting with Shen Liang on the video screen as she scanned through the numerous comments regarding Moo Wanqi's scandalous pictures. Who would've known that it would come to this? That two sisters would be pitted against each other–all because of Wanqi's jealousy?
While Nuannuan was hesitant, Shen Liang was determined. After all, she had always been a school bully–strong and determined, no one dared to mess with her, especially since she had such a prestigious background. Now that she was a celebrity, she was a bit cautious with her words and actions, but the violent and manipulative nature inside of her still hadn't changed. "Would you look at that?"
She jumped excitedly, reading through all the comments.
"I have long felt that Moo Wanqi wasn't a good person, she's just good at covering it up!"
"She may look like a lady, but she's nothing but a devil in disguise."
"Here's something I've always thought about," she read out one of the comments. "Maybe the reason why the Mu family agreed to the union was that they know that Moo Wanqi was messing around with other men outside of marriage. Although her younger sister wasn't good-looking, at least she acted more like a woman than her sister! Why would Mu Tingxiao want someone who's already loose?"
Shen Liang paused before nodding in agreement. "It actually made a lot of sense why they'd push through with it. Do you think the Mu family knew of her matters beforehand? That's why they didn't complain when the Moo family made a switch?"
Moo Nuannuan frowned. She hadn't taught of that before.
"Well, no matter what happens, she obviously thought that this would allow her to be together with Shen Chuhan," she slowly said, shrugging.
Shen Liang and Shen Chuhan were actually distant relatives. Rolling her eyes in disgust, Shen Liang leaned back against her bedpost and crossed her arms over her chest. "He may be retarded, but he wouldn't allow himself to marry someone like her," she snapped. "I swear, I'm going to go there myself and reveal the truth. Now let's talk about something else."
Because Shen Liang had pulled her to talk in the middle of the night, Moo Nuannuan woke up a little later than usual the next morning.
Turning on the computer, she went online to see what all the fuss was about, only to see that all of Moo Wanqi's explicit photos and videos had been removed. No matter how much she had scrolled down, these pictures were absolutely nowhere to be seen. Twisting her wrists, she pursed her lips, finding all the previous posts.
However, it seemed that all of them were deleted.
It was probably Moo Liyan's handiwork.
From a young age, Moo Nuannuan had never really communicated with her father, but it was obvious that he absolutely adored Moo Wanqi–wanting to do everything for her. Even if she was a troublemaker by blood and had implicated the family name in all sorts of scandals, he still managed to push through.
But it doesn't matter. After all, many of the netizens had already taken screenshots of the scandal. At this point, it was already too late for any of them to clear it up.
With a smile playing on her lips, she proceeded to do all her morning routine. Just as she was about to head out, she received a call from Shen Liang.
"Imagine my anger when I saw that all the trending hashtags were removed!" She was fuming, and Moo Nuannuan could hear her throwing a pen across the room. "What the hell? Do they think that they could get the better of me? Hell, I could buy a million trolls to get all her pictures up on the list. That slut better be ready!"
Shen Liang wouldn't even address Moo Wanqi by her real name anymore, having lost all sort of respect for her.
"Don't be so impulsive. Her name's already ruined now anyway," Moo Nuannuan immediately comforted. "Don't you have a new movie being released in the next month? More people would concentrate on your actions, and if they saw that you've bought a few trolls to harass her, it would affect your sales. Let me handle it."
"Fine," she reluctantly agreed. "Do you want to have a meal? I'll be heading back to production tomorrow. I can come and pick you up."
"Sure."
As she was passing by Mu Tingxiao's study, she couldn't help but stop.
She didn't see him yesterday, and she didn't know if Mu Jiachen was telling the truth or not as to whether the guy was really angry at her. Her fingers fidgeted as she clasped the handle in front of her. Could she peek in? Just to see if he was okay? Or should she just let it go and wait for him to call her?
However, before she could even move, the door swung open.
Moo Nuannuan immediately stepped back to see Mu Jiachen's expressionless face.
"I...is your cousin here?"
"What do you want from him?" Closing the door from behind him, he leaned against the frame, gazing at her.
There wasn't any playfulness tied to his voice at all, and upon taking a closer look, she noticed how his eyes looked even sunken. His face was ghostly pale, and he looked even worse compared to the time he was shot. She pursed her lips. A part of her was curious as to why he looked at that, but she immediately shook her head. This wasn't any of her business anyway.
"Nothing."
Immediately, she turned around and headed down the stairs.
Suddenly, something heavy crashed behind her.
Moo Nuannuan turned around to see that Mu Jiachen had fallen to the ground. He was trembling and shivering, coughing heavily. His face had turned deathly pale, and she could see his lips turning blue. Panic rushed through her veins as she sprinted to him, struggling to help him up. But his dead weight was far too much for her to bear.
"Hey! Are you okay? What's wrong?"
Although she was annoyed with him, that didn't mean she wanted him to get hurt!
Upon taking a closer look, she saw that his eyes were closed. His long eyelashes were spread out like a large fan, casting a layer of shadow over his cheeks. Sweat beaded down the sides of his face as he continually shivered under her grip. She grasped him even tighter before reaching out to touch his forehead.
As soon as their skin connected, Moo Nuannuan drew back. He was burning!
Setting him down, she rushed to the staircase, screaming, "Is anyone there? Come up, please! Mu Jiachen has fainted!" The man was 1.9 meters tall, so it would be impossible for her to get him up all by herself.
As soon as he heard her, a bodyguard sprinted up the stairs and carried Mu Tingxiao to his room.
A doctor came a few seconds after.
Moo Nuannuan watched by the sides as everyone busied themselves with what had happened. Even then, she still didn't see Mu Tingxiao coming into his cousin's bedroom. Feeling that the situation had nothing to do with her, she made move to leave. After all, if her husband wasn't here, she'd not need to be here herself, right?
However, just as she was about to leave, Shi Ye rushed towards her. "Young Madame," he breathed out, panting. "Do you mind taking care of Young Master for a while?"
Although him calling the man 'Young Master' seemed a bit strange, she didn't think much of it.
"But I still have something to do." She glanced at her watch. It was almost time for lunch, so Shen Liang was about to arrive anytime soon.
"I...Mom...Please..."
Mu Tingxiao's voice sounded from behind.
Moo Nuannuan turned around to see that the confident and arrogant expression on his face had completely faded. On that bed was not the man who had teased her, but a frightened boy. Her heart thumped in her chest as she stared at the confusion etched on his face. 'What the hell had he gone through to feel so much pain?'
Seeing this, her heart softened, and she nodded.
Besides, there weren't any maids in the villa, and the bodyguards were men. They wouldn't be able to take care of him, even if they tried. "Fine...I'll take over first," she whispered.
