C18 Chapter 18
While I was still trying to figure out why all this was happening, my eyes had already drifted somewhere else.
“I wasn’t looking! There’s no way these trashy, sleazy girls could compare to my Miss Liang Jing and Miss Mo Ningning!”
Even after saying that, I still couldn’t help sneaking a couple glances at one girl’s bare thigh. Thank God those two didn’t catch me—otherwise I’d be in for another round of punishment.
“Xiao Gang, what do we do next? What are we supposed to do? I can’t wait to trap that ghost with the pot!”
When I saw that Liang Jing somehow had a pressure cooker in her hands, I couldn’t help breaking into a cold sweat.
They say women are the most easily scared creatures on earth, but with her? I couldn’t see it at all.
“Liang Jing, put the pressure cooker away. We’re not using that this time. We’ll wait until tonight—when that guy Zhou gets back to the dorm after evening study—and then we’ll come out.”
Liang Jing reluctantly put the pressure cooker away, then asked, “So that means we can just walk around campus for now?”
And just like that, those two dragged me all over campus—looking at this, checking out that. After more than an hour of running around, we finally lay in ambush in the bushes along the route Zhou had to take back to his dorm.
“Hey, Xiao Gang… what if the ghost doesn’t show up tonight?” Mo Ningning whispered, already fed up after getting bitten by bugs in the bushes.
“Can you keep it down? Can you just wait a little longer? Don’t you see Zhou’s already coming back?”
“Shut up, Xiao Gang. I think the ghost is already here!” Liang Jing said suddenly, her voice low and eerie.
I immediately looked toward Mr. Zhou as he headed for the guys’ dorm. And sure enough, right behind him was a female ghost in white—floating off the ground, completely transparent, drifting along like a wisp of smoke.
After Zhou walked into the dorm, the ghost following him suddenly stopped at the entrance.
Good thing I’d set up a warning barrier outside the guys’ dorm earlier. It couldn’t completely keep that guy Zhou out, but it would hold for a minute or two.
After I muttered a few incantations, a red beam suddenly hit the female ghost. Then she appeared right in front of the three of us.
“Wu Xiaogang! Why’d you bring that ghost here all of a sudden? Do you have any idea how terrifying that is?!” Liang Jing snapped from the side.
“Did I really scare you that bad?” I said, quietly pushing down the pressure cooker she was trying to pull out.
“Don’t rush to deal with her yet. This ghost might actually be one of the good ones—not a malicious spirit!”
Usually, if someone dies and turns into something truly evil, their clothes don’t stay white—they turn black and give off a heavy, hostile aura. Since she was dressed in white, she probably wasn’t the dangerous kind.
“Who are you? Why are you stopping me from finding the one I love? Why?”
Right after I calmed Liang Jing down, the ghost in front of us seemed to come back to her senses and demanded that of the three of us.
I hadn’t even gotten a word out when she suddenly snapped and lunged at us. Luckily, I’d already prepared a tool—
a net. It looked like an ordinary fishing net, but it wasn’t for fish. This one, to be precise, was for catching ghosts.
With the three of us working together, we threw the ghost-catching net over her. She couldn’t move, trapped under it, howling.
I thought, Was my gut wrong? Great—so she really is a malicious spirit. I waved at Liang Jing, signaling that she could go ahead and bring out the pressure cooker.
But in that instant, Mo Ningning suddenly pointed at the ghost and said, “Wu Xiaogang, look! I think she’s crying!”
Right after that, I turned my eyes to the female ghost. Sure enough, I saw her wiping away tears on and off.
“Why are you all coming after me like this? I didn’t do anything wrong!”
“Alright. Stand up first and talk to us. Tell us what you’re crying about. Maybe I can help you!” After I said that, I put away the ghost-catching net.
“You can really help me? And… who are you, anyway?” the female ghost asked the three of us.
I nodded. Then Liang Jing, without hesitating for a second, said to the ghost, “We’re members of the Ghostbusters Squad!”
Me: “...”
I seriously couldn’t handle Liang Jing—this little princess was something else.
“Fine. Then I’ll tell you my whole story, start to finish. The truth is, what you’ve seen—and what you think you know—isn’t real. I’m not some vicious spirit, and I never meant to hurt that man with the last name Zhou. Besides, someone else killed me. I’ve already let go of all that grudges-and-payback stuff.”
