C14 A Man Who Could Protect His Heart Could Not be Loved!!

"Remember, I want Liuli to be the one to call off the engagement. She's the only daughter and heir of the Wan family, incredibly talented and capable. So, you'd better be on your A-game. Her father isn't someone to be underestimated either."

Hearing this, Mo Ya couldn't help but feel puzzled. Such an outstanding woman seemed like a perfect match for Yem Mohan. Why was he so insistent on breaking the engagement, and why did he want Liuli to initiate it? With his skills, it shouldn't be hard to make her call it off, right?

As if sensing Mo Ya's doubts, Yem Mohan casually explained while driving, "Liuli's grandfather and my grandfather were as close as brothers. Our engagement was arranged by them. My grandfather is very fond of Liuli, so you understand?"

Even if she didn't fully grasp it, Mo Ya felt she understood enough. It seemed Yem Mohan really cared about his grandfather. And why wouldn't he? Old Master Yem, Yem Longzhou, was the cornerstone of the Yem family, a hero from the early days of the nation. He stepped back from the family affairs only after Yem Mohan took over. It made sense that Mohan would want Liuli to call off the engagement out of respect for his grandfather.

Thinking she had figured it out, Mo Ya nodded and said obediently, "I get it. I'll do my best. But is Liuli coming back to the States?"

"Oh? How did you know that?"

"You took me to meet Director Wan today. There's no way he'd just let his daughter stay abroad."

Yem Mohan chuckled, even reaching over to gently pat Mo Ya's head. "You're getting smarter. I like smart girls. But you got one thing wrong. I'm not doing this for my grandfather. I, Yem Mohan, always do things my own way."

"Not for your grandfather? Then why?"

Mo Ya was genuinely confused. If it wasn't out of respect for his grandfather, why not just end it himself? His skills were certainly on par with Old Master Yem's.

However, there was no way Yem Mohan would let Mo Ya guess what he was thinking. He leaned in mysteriously and whispered to her, "That's a secret. And let me remind you, curiosity killed the cat. Just like I didn't ask you about the details of that night you were attacked, you know?"

Can we even have a decent conversation? The answer was clearly no. After hearing Yem Mohan's words, Mo Ya lost any desire to have a meaningful talk with him. It seemed she was nothing more than a dispensable toy to him. Equality? Those words probably never existed in his mind.

In his eyes, all she needed to do was follow his orders. As for anything else, like uncovering the truth or understanding what he really thought, it was just a pipe dream. A man like him, so high and mighty with such a strong desire for control—anyone who fell in love with him would likely suffer a lifetime of pain. And if he ever fell for someone, that woman would probably be unfortunate too.

With this in mind, Mo Ya felt even more determined to guard her heart. No matter how this man treated her, no matter how entangled they became, she couldn't afford to give her heart away easily. Because losing was not an option for her...
