C12 It Was a Long Night

"Ding ding," my phone chimed, and I picked it up to answer.

On the other end, Linfeng excitedly told me, "Ximo, you’re amazing! Last night's gathering really paid off. Chengyang just gave me an investment tip, and my company is saved!"

Hearing Linfeng's joyful voice made me happy too. But about last night, I could only pretend to be equally thrilled as I replied, "That's fantastic, honey. Congratulations! Finally, the company is saved!"

Before Linfeng could respond, I faintly heard a woman's cheerful voice exclaim, "That's great!" Puzzled, I asked, "Who?"

Linfeng, sensing my question, hurriedly said, "I have something to do, I'll talk to you later," and quickly hung up.

I've never been the kind of girl to play it safe.

Hearing the call end left me feeling a bit down, like I was all alone. But no matter what, it's good that Linfeng's company is saved.

I got out of bed, noticing the marks on my body, which made me feel even worse. After taking a shower, I had no choice but to put on yesterday's clothes since I had nothing else to wear. All I wanted now was to get home and change.

When I reached my front door, it was unlocked, which struck me as odd. Did Linfeng not go to work today? And who was that woman on the phone?

As I approached the bedroom, I heard faint, playful voices. With a sinking feeling, I opened the door and was stunned by what I saw.

There was Ying, standing on my bed, wearing the dress I wore on my wedding day, smiling with a mix of seduction and delight. My husband, Linfeng, had his head buried in her skirt.

The scene made my head spin. I stood silently at the doorway, then hurled my purse at the two of them on the bed. All the love and guilt I felt for Linfeng vanished, replaced by pure hatred.

Linfeng looked up, startled, his face turning pale. Ying screamed and quickly grabbed the blanket to cover herself, too afraid to move.

A tear slipped down my face, landing on my hand like acid. In that moment, I understood their relationship—I realized my husband had cheated on me.

Finally grasping the situation, I shouted, "Linfeng, you bastard!" I rushed forward, pushing him away from Ying, yanking the blanket off her, and grabbing her hair. I screamed, "How dare you wear my wedding dress, you witch!" Ying whimpered in fear.

Three years ago, the toughness and resilience I had as a dancer suddenly surged within me. Ignoring Huang Ying's cries and pleas, I slapped her repeatedly across the face and body. Grabbing a glass of water from the nightstand, I poured it directly over her head. The cold shock made Huang Ying scream for help, "Linfeng, come save me!"

Realizing what was happening, Linfeng rushed forward and pulled me away to stop me. With a forceful shove, he sent me crashing into the cabinet, and a sharp pain flared across my forehead.

Holding the terrified Huang Ying in his arms, Linfeng yelled at me, "Are you crazy? What are you doing?"

Dazed from the impact, I felt a warm liquid trickle down my forehead, and blood blurred my vision.
