C16 You Have Always Been Kind!

Luo Youran understood well that as a Dark Guard, discipline was strict. Without Xi Muchen's approval, taking action on his own would lead to severe punishment for Chu Hongwei. She saw the look in Chu Hongwei's eyes and it reminded her of herself in the past. When Luo Lin was killed, Luo Youran was just as determined to avenge her mother. Unfortunately, she never uncovered the mastermind behind it all. A sense of melancholy filled her heart.

Later, she returned to her bedroom. Although she wasn't afraid of Chu Hongwei's retaliation, she didn't want to hurt him. After all, his brother had already become comatose because of her, and she couldn't bring herself to harm Chu Hongwei. Despite being a mercenary with blood on her hands, her heart remained kind.

Night fell quietly, and the deal she had with Xi Muchen was set for the next day. After dinner, Luo Youran went to Xi Muchen's study to ask about the plan for tomorrow. She didn't want to be caught off guard by him again. As she reached the study door, she overheard a conversation between Xi Muchen and Mr. Wang. For some reason, she didn't leave but instead stayed to listen.

"Young Master, Chu Hongwei harbors deep hatred for Miss Luo. Given the chance, he will surely seek revenge for his brother. Why don't you send him away?" Mr. Wang's voice was filled with confusion. Dark Guards were meticulously trained, their greatest trait being their lack of desires, making them the perfect weapon against enemies. However, Chu Hongwei's heart was now full of hatred, making him unsuitable to stay by Xi Muchen's side. An uncontrolled Dark Guard was like a ticking time bomb, potentially harming both others and himself.

"I have my reasons," Xi Muchen replied, his eyes narrowing with a look of calculated intent.

Mr. Wang had been with Xi Muchen for years, yet he still couldn't figure out what was going on in his mind. Outwardly, Xi Muchen seemed like a playboy, always chasing women, but in reality, he was calculating and shrewd. Since he didn't want to transfer Chu Hongwei, Mr. Wang decided not to press the issue further.

Afterward, Mr. Wang briefed Xi Muchen on the plans for the next day. Luo Youran tried to eavesdrop, but the two men in the study lowered their voices. "What a cunning jerk!" Luo Youran thought, her bright eyes filled with disdain. As she tiptoed back to her room, her beautiful face was marked with scorn. "People say women are scheming, but Xi Muchen is just as bad, if not worse—he's the epitome of heartlessness!"

A loyal guard, dedicated to his duty, yet Xi Muchen exploited him at every turn, even squeezing out the last bit of value from Chu Hongwei. Luo Youran's contempt for him reached a new level. Due to her growing dislike for Xi Muchen, Luo Youran abandoned her plan to ask about his intentions.

The next morning, just after Luo Youran finished breakfast, Xi Muchen strolled in. "Go get dressed up!" he instructed. "Remember, the more glamorous, the better!" His deep, alluring voice echoed in Luo Youran's ears. "Glamorous?" she replied coolly, casting him a sidelong glance. "I don't have the right dress!"

When Xi Muchen brought her back, she had nothing with her, and recently, she'd been wearing his shirts. "I've already had some dresses sent over. Pick whichever you like," Xi Muchen said, always meticulous in his planning. When he decided to take Luo Youran to the event, he had already thought of everything. Knowing he had prepared, Luo Youran said no more.

Returning to her room, Luo Youran found a row of exquisite dresses, both in material and style, waiting for her.

"Hmph, you really went all out!" Luo Youran chose a long black strapless gown. At first glance, it seemed unremarkable, but the low-cut back and thigh-high slit made it easy to move in.

After changing into the dress, Luo Youran applied a sophisticated and alluring makeup look to complement the black gown. As she descended the stairs, Xi Muchen's gaze darkened slightly.

The black dress not only highlighted Luo Youran's fair, porcelain-like skin but also accentuated her shapely figure. Paired with her bold red lips, she exuded a mysterious allure that Xi Muchen believed would captivate any man.

"The dress is too revealing, and the quality isn't great. Change it," Xi Muchen insisted, feeling uneasy at the thought of her attending the event in that gown.

"I think it's fine. Why should I change?" Luo Youran had admired her reflection earlier and felt the dress suited her perfectly.

"It's not practical for moving around," Xi Muchen offered a reason she couldn't refuse.

Despite finding him annoying, Luo Youran, determined to obtain the Blood Bracelet, went upstairs and chose a simple off-white cocktail dress. The quality was excellent, though the style was quite ordinary. Yet, on Luo Youran, it seemed to come alive with new vitality.

Previously, Luo Youran favored long gowns for their ability to conceal small weapons. Now, in the short, elegant dress, she resembled an ethereal beauty, graceful and enchanting. Her every move was like a work of art, and since she descended the stairs, many eyes in the living room couldn't help but be drawn to her.

"What do I need to do today?" Luo Youran asked coldly, ready for her task.

"Just go with the flow!" Xi Muchen offered a vague response.

"So, basically, I can do nothing?" She suspected Xi Muchen was setting her up on purpose.

If they wanted her involved but wouldn't tell her the mission, there was clearly something fishy going on. This wasn't the first time Xi Muchen had tried to manipulate her, and Luo Youran felt a twinge of caution...
