C49 Survival of the Fittest

To avoid causing too much of a stir, Yang Ming ultimately consented to being designated as a Junior Ninja after some discussion.

He had his measurements taken and then placed an order for a Ninja uniform and a Junior Ninja headband.

Once that was done, Yang Ming returned home to pack his few possessions. As an orphan, he had little to pack, so he finished quickly. He then visited the orphanage, choosing not to disturb anyone, and simply watched quietly from a distance.

After all, this was where he had grown up.

Children in the world of the Hokage matured early due to the nature of their environment. By one year old, they could walk; by two, they could talk; at three, they were already sensible; by four, they could work independently; and by five, they began to explore their Chakra.

Yang Ming's memories from before the age of two were hazy, but the subsequent three years were crystal clear in his mind.

These memories were part of his life, and even as someone who had transmigrated into this world, living in this body evoked deep feelings within him.

"Compared to my previous life, the world of the Hokage is truly harsh," Yang Ming reflected with a sigh.

After watching in silence for a while, he gave Gong Lizi, who was busy organizing activities, a long, final look before departing.

Next, he headed to the construction site to say goodbye to his job.

But at that moment, someone he never expected approached him—Chu Koichi.

"What do you want?" Yang Ming asked, his brow furrowing as he regarded Chu Koichi.

Truth be told, he didn't have a favorable opinion of the man. Chu Koichi was too sly and untrustworthy, and Yang Ming preferred to avoid entanglements with such people, especially now that he was leaving.

Yang Ming had no desire to get caught up in any disputes.

"Mr. Gekka, there's a matter I'm curious if you'd be interested in," Chu Koichi said with a hint of intrigue.

"Oh? What's that?" Yang Ming asked, his curiosity piqued by Chu Koichi's secretive demeanor.

Despite his cunning nature, Chu Koichi was knowledgeable, and his mysterious air suggested he wanted something. Yang Ming couldn't help but wonder what it was.

"Well, on the mountain behind the village, we've discovered a peculiar herb. At night, it emits a soft red glow and radiates warmth. The medical team investigated and found that the herb has properties that can enhance one's physical condition. Unfortunately, others have also spotted this herb, leading to a conflict. It's been decided that there will be a contest for it—whomever wins will claim the herb."

Chu Koichi spoke up.

"A peculiar herb? One that's warm and emits a red glow. Could it be...?"

Upon hearing Chu Koichi's description, Yang Ming felt a spark of recognition. The term "Flame Warm Herb" surfaced in his mind.

"Surely it's not that much of a coincidence!"

Yang Ming regarded Chu Koichi with a measured gaze and remarked coolly.

"After such an incident, why didn't you report to the Grass Kage? Why seek me out instead?"

"Since you defeated me last time, Lord Grass Kage has been utterly disappointed and cast me out. Left to fend for myself, I had to find a way to secure these herbs, hoping to redeem myself. I implore you, Mr. Gekka, to assist me," Chu Koichi pleaded, his discomfort evident.

"Oh?"

Yang Ming nodded, his expression betraying no surprise.

Such is the ruthless nature of the ninja world, particularly in a minor nation like that of the Grass Ninja.

The Grass Kage's respect for Yang Ming stemmed from his formidable strength, a courtesy not extended to Chu Koichi.

The principle is simple: survival of the fittest.

You're valued if you're capable; if not, you're discarded.

Without the backing of the Grass Kage, Chu Koichi's prospects were grim indeed.
