C2 Can't Sleep

When Xia Qingning woke up, the sky was dark. It seemed like there was heavy snow about to fall anytime soon.

It had been half a month since Hsu Mochen walked out of the house last time. Xia Qingning wrapped herself in a blanket and murmured to herself softly, "Hsu Mochen, I am sick. Can't you come home and be with me?" She closed her eyes. Tears trailed down her two cheeks.

The room was warm, but Xia Qingning felt cold. She also felt a faint pain in her bones.

'Hsu Mochen, if you were here, I wouldn't feel so cold...'

Xia Qingning made a decision to call his number. She asked him carefully, "Mochen, are you coming back tonight?"

Hsu Mochen was holding Lau Ying's waist when he answered the call. He said impatiently, "I'm not coming back."

Xia Qingning vaguely heard a woman's voice on the other side. She hung up the phone before Hsu Mochen could.

Her hands went to her her hair in frustration. When she dropped them, she saw that a few strands of hair had appeared in her hands.

Hsu Mochen used to say that his favorite thing about her was her hair. It was not only black and shiny, but also extremely soft.

Xia Qingning made a trip to the hospital. When she entered the doctor's room, she saw that there was another person inside. He was young and very good-looking.

The doctor talked to Xia Qingning for a while, indicating that the side effects of the anti-cancer drugs were almost the same as of chemotherapy. He advised her to continue to take the medicines.

Xia Qingning was silent for a while, but then nodded and walked out.

"Jiang Yiye, the patient I was talking to you about earlier, is this woman. Not only was she unwilling to cooperate with the chemotherapy process, but now it seems like she doesn't even have any will to survive."

Xia Qingning walked out of the hospital. She looked at her bank balance on her phone and sighed in distress.

Her savings were only enough to buy her medicines. The cost for chemotherapy and bone marrow exchange was not something that she could afford.

Looking at the hair on her hand, she wondered what she could do. She decided to buy a hat.

In the kitchen, Xia Qingning cooked herself porridge on a small fire. She forced herself to eat a little every day to prevent Hsu Mochen from suspecting that something was wrong with her health.

Just as she was about to eat, her phone rang.

It was the special ringtone that she had chosen for Hsu Mochen. Xia Qingning quickly walked over to answer the call.

"Grandpa has asked us to come home day after tomorrow."

Xia Qingning was about to speak when the line was cut. There was not another word said between them.

Two days later, Xia Qingning finally saw him. She had not seen him in a long time.

Hsu Mochen sat in the back seat of the car, a cold air around him.

There was no conversation between them along the way. After arriving at his grandfather's house, Hsu Mochen walked ahead while Xia Qingning followed behind him silently.

Hsu Mochen took off his coat and handed it to the maid. He then pulled Xia Qingning by the arm, who was about to enter too.

"They are all in the room. Why are you wearing a hat? Take it off."

Xia Qingning shook her head. Actually, her hair was not that bad. It was just that she could not bear its condition. She was sure that there was a bald spot on her head.

Their dispute lured the old man out and allowed Xia Qingning to avoid the question. But Hsu Mochen's lips were twisted in a displeased expression.

After the meal, the old man talked about the child he wanted, as usual. Xia Qingning forced a smile on her face and said, "Mochen and I are not in a hurry regarding a child."

Hsu Mochen glanced at her but did not refute it. The woman knew her limits about how much to reveal.

The old man wanted to say more but Xia Qingning's face shifted. Before she could escape to the bathroom, two lines of red had already fallen from her nose.

She pulled out two pieces of napkin from her bag and dabbed at it. She said with embarrassment, "Grandpa, I'm sorry. The weather is dry and a little hot."

The old man nodded in disbelief and stopped talking about the child at once.

Hsu Mochen got up and pulled Xia Qingning up. "I think I'll take her to the hospital. I'll come to see you another day."

Hsu Mochen walked out of the courtyard, all the way pulling her along. He rushed home as fast as lightning. His suppressed anger suddenly erupted when they were alone.

"Xia Qingning, you have to find trouble for me, correct? When you were at home, you looked sickly. And in front of Grandpa, you have to pretend to be weak?"

"I'm sorry. I really am not in good health..."

Hsu Mochen pulled his collar. His eyes were full of disdain. "Then I will make it better."

With that, he practically dragged her onto the bed. After pulling her clothes away, he went for her without any preparation.

Under his rude treatment, Xia Qingning felt pain all over her body, but could not bear the pain that came from her softest part.

"Mochen, slow down. It hurts."

Hsu Mochen pressed her down and looked at her completely drained face. Her collarbone was pronounced. His eyes were almost red. The throbbing in his heart was the driving force of his body, plunging over and over.

The two of them came a few times. Shortly, Hsu Mochen let her go. He lay beside her and fell into a deep sleep.

Xia Qingning moved slowly and gently hugged him. She pressed her face against his chest and slowly rubbed it, like a pet trying to please its owner.

"Mochen, why can't you leave me a good memory..."
