C4 Go to Yi City!
Yem Xi seemed to ignore her completely, pushing her motorcycle past her and into the alleyway.
Hsu Lirong was so infuriated that the corner of her mouth twitched involuntarily.
The driver quickly intervened, "Steward Hsu, the madam instructed you to calm her down. It's imperative that you bring her back today."
Steward Hsu was still reeling from not having handled the situation well yesterday. Although the Jiang family hadn't held her accountable, she couldn't shake off the feeling of personal failure.
She had little respect for the Second Miss, who had grown up in the countryside, but she was determined to bring her back.
Hsu Lirong caught up with Yem Xi.
Yem Xi merely glanced back at her, her voice as icy as her demeanor, "Wait outside, I'll open the door in a bit."
Hsu Lirong found herself stopping in her tracks, her feet frozen until Yem Xi was out of sight. It was only then that she emerged from the alley with a complex look on her face.
The driver, seeing her return, couldn't help but ask, "Steward Hsu, is something the matter?"
"She said she'll open the door shortly."
As they waited, the driver's sharp eyes caught sight of a black Bentley descending from the mountain behind them and driving off into the distance. He stretched on his tiptoes, craning his neck, trying to place why the car seemed so familiar.
"What are you looking at?" Hsu Lirong inquired, following the driver's gaze, only to be met with a fading mist.
The driver shook his head, "Nothing, just a car."
Hsu Lirong withdrew her attention, dismissive of the idea that anything of significance could be associated with a car in such a place.
Inside, Yem Xi parked her motorcycle and entered the bedroom. She pulled a black bag from the wardrobe and methodically began packing items into it.
The night before, the Jiang family had bombarded her with calls and messages, insisting she was a blood relative and promising her a lifetime of luxury and honor if she would only acknowledge her lineage.
Luxury and honor? Laughable.
In her last moments of her previous life, she had discovered that she was not actually related to the Jiang family at all. They must have had ulterior motives for claiming her as their own.
This time around, she was determined to uncover the truth.
About ten minutes later, Yem Xi emerged from the front door, bag slung over her shoulder.
Steward Hsu and the driver were taken aback by her attire. "You..."
Yem Xi swiftly locked the door and turned to face her companions. "Let's go. I'll return with you."
As they journeyed back to Yi City, the driver occasionally glanced at Yem Xi through the rearview mirror. The Second Miss appeared far from pleased. Any country girl should be thrilled to join a wealthy family in Yi City, where her lifestyle would be incomparable to her current one. Yet, she seemed utterly indifferent.
She likely had no idea of the significance of the Jiang family. She probably couldn't even begin to imagine it. The driver's disdain for Yem Xi grew—such ignorance!
Hsu Lirong noticed that Yem Xi had been nonchalantly playing with her phone and chewing gum since she got into the car. Her demeanor was a far cry from the poise and grace of the First Miss. A country girl through and through, she thought. Even with the Jiang family bloodline, without the proper upbringing and education over the past decade, she would never fit in.
But these were not concerns for a housekeeper like her; she had more pressing matters to attend to as instructed by her employer.
"Second Miss, you need to familiarize yourself with some basic information about the Jiang family," she said.
Yem Xi didn't even spare her a glance, maintaining her cool, detached demeanor as if speaking was too much effort.
Hsu Lirong, trying to keep her composure, continued sternly, "Mr. Jiang, your father, is often busy with work, so your mother handles the household affairs. You have an older sister, Jiang Shuyao, and a younger brother, Jiang Yuhao. As you're new here, they might not warm up to you immediately. Please avoid any conflicts with them and act sensibly."
Yem Xi's fingers paused mid-text. After all these years, she was hearing it again: avoid conflicts and be sensible. That must be the Jiang family's expectation.
In her previous life, she had thought Steward Hsu was offering guidance, but she hadn't realized that this advice would become a stark portrayal of her life with the Jiang family. If Yuhao played a prank on her, even if it resulted in her breaking a leg, she was expected to forgive him, attributing it to youthful mischief and showing forbearance.
Her elder sister had repeatedly stolen her achievements, and even if her very life was taken, she was expected to forgive and not hold a grudge. After all, her elder sister was the family's cherished eldest daughter, and it was her duty to offer unwavering support.
She once believed that her dedication would earn her the family's approval. Yet, reality had shown that some people are insatiable predators, eventually threatening one's very existence.
Yem Xi remained silent, continuing to send messages.
Hsu Lirong, observing that Yem Xi hadn't uttered a single word from start to finish, couldn't tell if her words had been absorbed or ignored.
Running out of patience, Hsu Lirong's voice turned icy, her tone taking on a condescending edge, "Second Miss, when I'm speaking to you, the least you could do is respond! Despite your upbringing in the countryside, is it possible you lack even the most basic manners? It's truly unbelievable..."
Yem Xi's gaze held a chilling edge.
She turned off her phone's screen and turned her head to give Hsu Lirong a look that was both mocking and mirthless. Without speaking a word, her presence felt as oppressive as a heavy vehicle rolling in.
In that instant, Hsu Lirong seemed to find the air around her growing thin. She fell silent, her lips tightly sealed.
Yem Xi raised an eyebrow and let out a derisive snort.
Hsu Lirong's face paled, her hands clenched tightly in her lap.
This Yem Xi, though young, was quite the thorn in the side! With such a temperament, she was unlikely to find happiness within the Jiang family.
