C36 Grandpa will Help Huo Niannian Get Justice

Yin Jie's heart raced with panic as she turned to face the Old Master, his face etched with anger.

"Dad, Yufei is still a child. Please, just this once, let her off the hook. Niannian is fine, right? We're all family here."

"A child? Isn't Niannian also a child?"

At that moment, Huo Niannian, alerted by the commotion, leaned on Gu Tingshen for support as she walked from the bedroom into the living room.

"Grandpa."

"Niannian, what are you doing up? You should be resting."

"I'm fine..."

"Luck was on her side this time. But what if it hadn't been?" The Old Master shot another glance at Gu Yufei. "Uncle Zhang, take her away!"

Uncle Zhang, face set in a grim line, took hold of Gu Yufei's arm. "Let's go, Miss."

Once Uncle Zhang had taken Gu Yufei away, Huo Niannian was surprised to see the Old Master actually follow through with punishing his granddaughter. She had intended only to reveal Gu Yufei's true colors to Grandpa, hoping for a scolding that would make her think twice.

Yet, as Gu Yufei was led to the cold storage, Huo Niannian couldn't help but feel a twinge of triumph mixed with the discomfort of knowing how harsh it was. She had hoped Grandpa would only keep Gu Yufei confined for a short time; she hadn't wanted any real harm to come to her.

She tried to speak up, "Grandpa," but was swiftly interrupted.

"Niannian, you need to rest. Don't worry about Yufei's punishment. She's gone too far this time. I have to teach her a lesson, or she'll only end up causing more trouble in the future."

After patting Huo Niannian's shoulder, the Old Master didn't wait for a reply. He turned and walked towards the door, pausing as he passed Gu Tingshen.

"Tingshen, take good care of Niannian these next few days. If you're uncomfortable here, you're welcome to go back to your place. I'll have my personal doctor come by daily to check on Niannian."

"Yes, Grandpa."

Meanwhile, Gu Yufei found herself in the cold storage, her sobs echoing as she banged on the freezer door. The cold bit into her flesh, forcing her to retract her hands, now bright red and stinging, which only made her tears flow harder.

"Yufei, don't panic," Yin Jie's voice, laced with worry, suddenly pierced the silence from outside. "Hang in there. Your dad will be home any minute, and we'll get you out as fast as we can."

"Mom, it's so cold in here! Hurry, please, get me out!"

Gu Yufei's sobs kept coming, each one a stab to Yin Jie's heart. She sighed repeatedly, her mind racing. When had Yufei ever suffered like this? It was unbearable for both of them.

Yin Jie's thoughts turned to Huo Niannian's earlier pretense, stoking the flames of her fury. She silently vowed, 'Yufei, just hold on. I swear I'll drive her out of the Huo family for good!'

An hour had passed since Gu Yufei was locked away, and Yin Jie was drenched in sweat from her anxiety.

What if Yufei got sick from this ordeal?
