C46 Was the Public Relations Department Useless?

Huo Niannian decided to preemptively address the issue. She raised her misty eyes to Gu Tingshen and apologized, "I'm sorry for my actions earlier today. If necessary, I'm ready to clear the air."

"Hmm? What exactly did you do wrong?" Gu Tingshen asked, sitting rigidly on the sofa. His eyes swept over the junk food littering the coffee table, his annoyance palpable.

What had she done wrong, indeed? Huo Niannian rubbed her temples in a circular motion, pondering. This type of conversation felt like it should be between a wife and a husband who had strayed. Why did it feel so awkward?

"Speak," Gu Tingshen instructed, after discarding his finished water bottle into the trash and turning his attention back to Huo Niannian.

Today, she wore a white silk chiffon dress with thin straps that revealed her delicate neck and the elegant butterfly bones of her shoulders, enchanting onlookers.

Was this a deliberate move by Huo Niannian?

Gu Tingshen averted his gaze, and Huo Niannian quickly admitted, "My mistake was not stopping Cao Nana from speaking out. I never should have given her the opportunity!"

That would have spared them all this drama.

Gu Tingshen paid her no mind and strode toward the bedroom. Huo Niannian's heart pounded with worry. Had she really angered him?

She followed him with hurried, tiny steps, continuing to mutter under her breath.

As they reached the bedroom, Gu Tingshen stopped and gave Huo Niannian a nonchalant look. "Is the bathwater ready?"

"The bath is ready," Huo Niannian confirmed.

Gu Tingshen nodded and proceeded into the bathroom.

Leaning against the door, Huo Niannian felt as if all her energy had been sapped. She listened to the water running inside, her ear against the door, then couldn't help but punch the air in vexation.

Come on!

He could at least offer some guidance.

She was entirely at his mercy now.

And then, at the most inopportune time, her stomach growled. Huo Niannian's face contorted with discomfort.

She hadn't eaten since noon and was starving.

But she couldn't bring herself to eat while Gu Tingshen was still in the bathroom. Holding a clean towel, Huo Niannian stood by the door, a tumult of anticipation and annoyance churning inside her. When he finally stepped out, she presented the towel with both hands.

That evening, Gu Tingshen had paid no attention to Huo Niannian, leaving her restless and uneasy...

The next morning, hunger pangs jolted Huo Niannian awake. She moaned, holding her stomach, and when she opened her eyes, she realized the man who had been beside her had vanished. Where had he gone? She quickly sat up, looking around, only to find him on the balcony, sitting in a wicker chair, deeply absorbed in the newspaper. Clad in his simple pajamas, the morning sun draped him in a golden light that highlighted his handsome profile, giving him an aura of unapproachability.

"This man is as handsome as a deity..." Huo Niannian mused, sitting up in bed, blanket wrapped around her, supporting her chin with her hand, and swallowing hard.

Feeling her gaze, Gu Tingshen put down the newspaper and looked up at her. Huo Niannian's first impulse was to avert her eyes, but it was too late. He walked over and asked, "You're awake?"

"Mhm..."

"Well, since you're up, let's have breakfast," Gu Tingshen offered, his glance briefly flicking to her stomach. "You're hungry, aren't you?"
