"How could this be?" Cao Nana whispered to herself before embracing He Feng, her voice laced with grievance. "Hubby, this isn't my fault. It's all that vixen Huo Niannian's doing! And even if you've lost your job, it's okay. We'll find another one, right?"

"Let go of me. If it weren't for your seduction, I'd never have left Niannian," He Feng snapped back. Overcome with fatigue, he immediately fell into a deep sleep.

Cao Nana watched him snoring soundly, her expression contorted with spite.

Huo Niannian, you're to blame for this.

Why should you have a better life than me? I won't allow it!

Elsewhere, Huo Niannian sneezed uncontrollably, still propped up by Gu Tingshen's shoulder. Wobbling on ten-centimeter heels, her walk was unsteady. Luckily, Gu Tingshen was there to catch her, or she would have fallen long ago.

Upon entering the office, Huo Niannian eagerly kicked off her high heels. She collapsed onto the couch and moaned, "I'm so tired."

She marveled at how some people could endure high heels all day long.

"You're tired already?" Gu Tingshen chided. "Just so you know, there's plenty more to come."

"More?" Huo Niannian asked, her anxiety palpable.

"What did you expect?" Gu Tingshen replied with a faint smile, sending a flutter of unease through Huo Niannian. "What do you think I hired you for?" he added.

Huo Niannian fought back the urge to cry, taking solace in the fact that public sentiment was now on her side.

Massaging her sore ankle, she looked up at Gu Tingshen. "Director Gu, can I ask for something?"

Gu Tingshen put down his documents and said decisively, "No."

"Why not?" Huo Niannian asked, frustration evident in her gaze.

Huo Niannian furrowed her brows, a touch of annoyance in her gaze as she stared at Gu Tingshen. She was increasingly convinced that the man before her was incredibly petty!

"Do you need money?" Gu Tingshen asked, pulling out his wallet from the desk and extracting a sleek black card. He placed it on the table, tapping it with his fingertip. "This is an unlimited credit card. You can use it anywhere."

"I'm not," I snapped back. "Am I just after your money?"

Huo Niannian couldn't help but roll her eyes.

She lounged on the sofa, leaning on the armrest as she watched Gu Tingshen at his desk. Her eyes flickered with a bunny-like liveliness. Gu Tingshen finally put down the documents he was working on.

He suddenly understood why all his friends were so keen on finding love early.

"Not enough?" he asked.

As soon as he finished speaking, Huo Niannian handed the card back to him. She might be a bit strapped for cash, but she had her pride!

So, Huo Niannian resolved to reason with him, to touch his heart. "Going out to work is my way of proving to everyone that Director Gu's wife is anything but incapable. Don't you think that's right? With my ambition, shouldn't you be proud?"

"Proud?" Gu Tingshen scoffed, as if amused by the notion. His eyes narrowed, and he exuded an aura of authority. "My woman, needing to work?"

"I just can't win with you," Huo Niannian sighed.
