C94 Do You Know That You're Causing Trouble?

An Inscription Apprentice?

Chu Yan's gaze shifted to Master Zheng Wen.

The man appeared to be in his thirties, and despite Bai Feiyu's introduction, Zheng Wen paid no attention to Chu Yan, simply lifting his teacup for a sip.

Chu Yan could tell from the color of the tea that it was certainly not the same high-grade spirit tea Zhao Shude had served him. This tea was of much lower quality.

Yet, both Master Zheng Wen and Bai Yingcai seemed to relish it as if it were the finest ambrosia.

"An Inscription Apprentice? What's that to me?" Chu Yan shot a dismissive look at Bai Feiyu. "No matter how fancy you dress it up, a peddler is still a peddler."

"You!" Bai Feiyu's face turned a shade of green, his hair standing on end as he fixed a furious glare on Chu Yan.

Master Zheng Wen's expression darkened at the exchange.

Bai Yingcai, sensing an opportunity, looked at Chu Yan with a malevolent grin. "Chu Yan, remember, trouble often starts with the tongue. Don't bring disaster upon the Lin Family."

"So, are you trying to bring disaster upon the Bai Family now?" retorted Chu Yan with a cold laugh.

His patience was wearing thin. Where on earth had Zhao Shude gone, leaving him to deal with these irritating nuisances?

"You've got some nerve! You're utterly clueless about your place!" Bai Yingcai bellowed, "Clinging to the Lin Family's coattails doesn't make you one of them. You're just a son-in-law. Even Lin Ao wouldn't dare to speak like this!"

Master Zheng Wen also chimed in with a frosty tone, "I never expected Evergreen Town to be such a hiding place for dragons and tigers. It seems even my status as an Inscription Apprentice is taken lightly here. Perhaps I should pay a visit to the Lin Family when I have the chance."

Normally, anyone who heard Zheng Wen's words would be quaking in their boots.

To offend an Inscription Apprentice was to provoke a horde of warriors—a calamity few families in Evergreen Town could withstand.

But, regrettably for Zheng Wen and his company, they were up against Chu Yan.

And Chu Yan's patience was running out.

I came here in search of Su Yuqing, but instead, I found Bai Yingcai, Bai Feiyu, and Zheng Wen babbling like they've lost their minds. I really didn't want to bother with them.

Zheng Wen's resentment towards Chu Yan and the Lin Family surged when he saw Chu Yan's dismissive attitude. The Bai family had shown him great sincerity when they hired him. Although he wasn't their clan chief, Zheng Wen's status within the Bai family was nearly on par with one.

It irked him to be looked down upon by a warrior, especially one who seemed to be nothing more than a freeloading son-in-law. Zheng Wen's displeasure grew.

He resolved: "Once today's business is settled, I'll make sure the Lin Family understands the consequences of crossing an Inscription apprentice. At the very least, I want them to break Chu Yan's legs and bring him to me, begging for forgiveness."

In his eyes, Chu Yan was no better than a stray dog: "You'll get what's coming to you!"

Though he had made up his mind, Zheng Wen knew he still had to talk tough to save face.

"I'll have a word with Grandmaster Li He later and inquire about the Lin Clan. They must be quite the family to take in such an arrogant son-in-law," he said, with a sneer, invoking the grandmaster's name to intimidate.

But to his surprise, Chu Yan remained cool: "Oh, what a coincidence, I'm here to see Master Li He as well."

Not just Zheng Wen, but Bai Yingcai snickered at the thought.

"Master Li He meeting with a son-in-law like you? That's hilarious!" Bai Yingcai laughed, clutching his stomach as if it were the joke of the century.

Holding his teacup, Zheng Wen shook his head with a scornful smile, "Pathetic, just pathetic. I pity the Lin Family. They must be desperate to take back someone as insignificant as you."

Bai Feiyu was the only one present when something seemed to strike him, causing a subtle shift in his expression.

However, Bai Yingcai and Zheng Wen were shaking their heads so vigorously that Bai Feiyu's lips twitched, but ultimately, he remained silent.

Taking a deep breath to suppress a laugh, Bai Yingcai sneered at Chu Yan, "Talk about timing, Master Li He is at the Wan Hai Chamber of Commerce today. We've already had Shopkeeper Zhao deliver our card, hoping for an audience with Master Li He. It'll be interesting to see if he chooses to meet with you, the so-called 'Soft Rice King,' or us."

"If he meets with me, you can go ahead and tattoo 'Soft Rice King' on your forehead," retorted Chu Yan, tired of the pointless banter.

"Deal!" Bai Yingcai's eyes sparkled at the challenge. "But if he meets with us, you'll crawl from here to the entrance of the Wan Hai Chamber of Commerce, proclaiming loudly that you're the 'Soft Rice King' the entire way."

Before Chu Yan could respond, the curtains to the inner hall were swept aside.

Zhao Shude, rotund and beaming, bowed deeply, "Master Li He, please."

All eyes turned to the parted curtain, and at Zhao Shude's announcement, a wave of excitement surged through the crowd.

As Master Li He emerged from the inner hall, Zheng Wen, Bai Yingcai, Bai Feiyu, and the others were visibly shaking with elation. To be personally received by Master Li He was a privilege not even the head of the Bai Clan had enjoyed—a tale to boast about for a lifetime.

Chu Yan, too, gazed at the curtain, but with a composed demeanor, devoid of teary eyes or goosebumps. He was simply curious to see the mysterious Master Li He who had once aided him.

At that moment, a dignified middle-aged man in an azure robe stepped out, his piercing gaze commanding respect.

Zhao Shude trailed just behind him, his body bent in deference.

Zheng Wen, observing intently, recognized the man immediately as the renowned Master Li He. Unable to contain his excitement, he stepped forward, bowing respectfully, "Greetings, Master Li He. I am Zheng Wen, the one who sent the card. It's an honor to be welcomed by you in person..."

Overcome with excitement, Zheng Wen's voice trembled as he spoke.

Master Li He's brows furrowed slightly upon hearing this.

"You're merely an Inscription apprentice at the Genuine Force Stage, and we have no personal connection. What makes you think I would personally come out to greet you? You seem to be quite generous in awarding yourself honor."

Li He's impression of Zheng Wen soured in an instant.

Unaware of Li He's thoughts, Bai Yingcai assumed that Li He had come specifically for Zheng Wen. He wore a smug expression and couldn't resist shooting a glance at Chu Yan.

Chu Yan turned his head away, unwilling to witness their disgraceful behavior.

Li He, catching the motion out of the corner of his eye, instinctively looked in Chu Yan's direction.

And with just that one look, he was taken aback.
