C2 The Strange Woman
The woman in front of her seemed to have lost interest in hitting her, either because the person before her remained silent or because she was simply tired. Su Ye's face burned with pain from the slap. Although she was a fashion magazine editor who stumbled into the role, she had some experience in her college drama club. Considering her accident, being transported into a story was better than dying.
Even though she was now a minor character who appeared for only five seconds as a corpse, she had read the entire novel. Without the main character's aura, she still knew the plot's direction. As someone from the 21st century, she could surely outsmart a bunch of fictional characters.
Based on what the woman just said, this was the novel's beginning. Bai Yun didn't want to be a bride married off to counteract bad luck and had jumped into a well to commit suicide. The Bai family, for the sake of fifty pieces of silver, had Bai Shao, her cousin from the Great Branch, take her place. During the wedding banquet, a daughter from the Third Branch, Shaang Tao, accidentally fell from the stage. Her soul was replaced by a special agent from the 21st century with the same name, becoming the powerful female lead.
The main character had all her skills maxed out and was blessed with the protagonist's aura. Although their 21st centuries weren't exactly the same, they were similar enough. Better to quickly find a way to ally with the main character!
Su Ye's mind raced as she quickly accepted the reality of being inside a novel. "Let me go."
"What?" The other woman seemed not to hear her clearly and laughed, "What nonsense are you talking about? Let you go? Don't even think about it!"
"Isn't it about marrying into the business family?" Su Ye wasn't Bai Yun. Right now, finding Shaang Tao at the business family was more important. "I'll marry."
The woman hesitated for a moment, her expression unreadable, then swung a stick at her again. "You little brat, who knows if you're telling the truth. Don't even think about getting away!"
With that, she tossed the branch at Su Ye and strutted off. Su Ye resisted the urge to roll her eyes. Judging by her demeanor, she seemed middle-aged. Although the Bai family didn't have much screen time in the original novel, there was a special side story dedicated to them, supposedly exposing the miserable status of women in ancient families.
Back then, Su Ye had even complained in the comments about how it was just filler to make money. But now, she could only say, "The author did a great job!" If she ever got back, she'd definitely tip the author generously!
Su Ye had a photographic memory and had just finished reading the novel a couple of days ago, so she still remembered the character settings. Based on the personality, this should be Mrs. Chen from the Great Branch of the Bai family, known for being the most aggressive. Su Ye was exhausted, hungry, and in pain. She was a fashion magazine editor, and now she found herself as a minor character in a novel?
Even if Shaang Tao was just a merchant's daughter, she shouldn't have to endure a beating before doing anything! Was it because her skills were more about entertainment and not practical use?
Su Ye noticed Mrs. Chen's strange look as she left. Being tied up like this was uncomfortable, and when she glanced at the ropes, she couldn't help but chuckle. It was like they expected her to just stay put. She first bit through the ropes on her hands, then untied her feet. Stretching her limbs, she finally felt alive again.
Outside, the sky was getting darker. Earlier, the door had been open, letting in some light, but Mrs. Chen had locked it when she left, and there wasn't a candle inside, making it pitch black. Su Ye didn't dare move around too much. As she felt around, she realized her body was covered in bruises. She couldn't imagine what kind of life Bai Yun had been living. Lying there for a while didn't help; instead, her head started to ache more.
