C47 Why Did I Save You?

The cave reverberated with the heavy thuds of impact.

Despite his dire state, the Cardioverter, a master of the Heavenly Talisman Realm, clung to life with remarkable tenacity.

"Pu!"

Blood spurted from the Cardioverter as his energy waned to a critical low.

In hand-to-hand combat, he was utterly outclassed by Lu Yu.

Lu Yu's formidable strength stood like an unscalable peak, leaving his opponent powerless to retaliate.

"Little bastard, go to hell!"

In a sudden outburst, the Cardioverter hurled a flying insect from his sleeve.

The creature was plump, its shell etched with bizarre black patterns that made it look incredibly sinister.

As the bug emerged, a dense black mist spread through the air, eating away at the stone upon which it settled.

Snap!

A glint of ice flashed in Lu Yu's eyes as he flicked the bug away with a swift motion.

The bug smashed into the stone wall, bursting into a splatter of gore, and lay motionless—dead beyond doubt.

"Hehe, you dare to touch my Nine Poison King with your bare hands? You're a dead man, boy!" sneered the Cardioverter, his lips curling in scorn.

Lu Yu looked down at his hand to see a black line snaking up his arm from his palm.

"Nine Poison King, a creation twenty years in the making, and I never imagined it would be wasted on a mere mortal like you. Cough cough!" The Cardioverter continued to hack up blood, but his eyes betrayed his undiminished thrill.

This was a venom capable of killing even a Minor Cycle Revolution expert.

It was meant for Meng Zhuyun, but you brought this upon yourself.

Just as the Cardioverter was about to speak again, his eyes widened in shock.

A golden flame erupted from Lu Yu's hand!

The black poison, as if meeting its nemesis, was incinerated by the golden flame.

In the span of three breaths, the poison on Lu Yu's arm was reduced to tendrils of smoke.

In a moment, the virulent toxin had been completely purged from his system.

"Impossible, how can this be! My Nine Poison King could corrode even the soul! You've only harnessed a fraction of the dragon-pulse's power, how could you possibly have neutralized the poison?!" the Cardioverter exclaimed, his voice laced with incredulity.

This venomous creature was his ace in the hole!

Yet, the young man before him had effortlessly disarmed it, sending shivers through his very soul.

Lu Yu slammed his foot down onto the face of the Ancestor known as Cardioverter. A sickening crack echoed as Cardioverter's face contorted grotesquely.

"I'm not one for idle chatter. Time to die!"

A glint of icy resolve shone in Lu Yu's eyes as he unleashed a golden blaze upon Cardioverter.

The Heavenly Emperor's Primordial Fire was fierce and unyielding, the bane of any Demonic Cultivator!

"What is this fire? Why is my soul itself ablaze? Ahhhhhhhhhh!"

Cardioverter desperately tried to smother the flames engulfing him, but the Heavenly Emperor's Primordial Fire was indomitable.

After a brief struggle, Cardioverter lay motionless.

Phew!

Lu Yu gazed at the lifeless body of Cardioverter and exhaled in relief.

He had been reluctant to resort to the Heavenly Emperor's Primordial Fire; for his current level of cultivation, the toll was immense.

It was only with the support of the dragon-pulse that he managed to summon even that modest flicker of flame.

Had Cardioverter been any other type of cultivator and not a Demonic Cultivator, that small flame might not have been lethal.

With Cardioverter's demise, it was unfortunate that all his treasures were incinerated by the Primordial Fire, leaving not a single magical artifact behind.

Lu Yu shook his head and walked away.

"Hold on." Just then, a crisp female voice called out from behind.

Lu Yu turned to see Meng Zhuyun, trapped within the vast array, beckoning him.

"What's the matter?" Lu Yu inquired.

Meng Zhuyun's teeth clenched her crimson lip, "That... You can manipulate the dragon-pulse, right? Could you free me?"

Her beauty was undeniable, and her plea only amplified her allure.

Lu Yu paused, slightly taken aback, then approached Meng Zhuyun.

Her eyes sparkled with delight, sultry as silk, seemingly on the verge of spilling over with emotion.

Yet, Lu Yu halted abruptly, a mere five meters from Meng Zhuyun, and sat down cross-legged.

Confused, Meng Zhuyun could only wonder what Lu Yu was plotting.

"Do we know each other?" Lu Yu inquired.

Meng Zhuyun stared at Lu Yu, a blank expression on her face, and shook her head.

"Are you my fiancée?" he asked once more.

Meng Zhuyun's cheeks flushed with a sudden crimson, and she exclaimed indignantly, "You scoundrel, who said I'm your fiancée?"

"Now that's curious," Lu Yu mused calmly. "If we're strangers and you're not my betrothed, with no ties between us, why on earth would I rescue you?"
