C99 Massacring the World
As Rong Qi reached out to check if he was wearing a mask, Tiange slowly stood up.
"You shouldn't be here," Tiange said, aware that the emotions swirling inside her had nothing to do with love. She was simply grateful that someone like Wen Yu existed in the world. When everyone else abandoned her, Wen Yu defied all odds and reached out to help her. And they had never even met.
"It was my oversight. I didn't expect someone as insignificant as Wei Zhanpeng to cause such a stir." Seeing the respect in Tiange's expression, Rong Qi couldn't help but reflect, Tiange, you really know how to adapt to the situation!
"At most, it's just a ripple," Tiange replied respectfully. "You don't need to worry about this. My grandmother and father can ensure my safety."
Rong Qi nodded. He had considered that even if Feng Qing didn't go all out due to Qin Chun's influence, the one in the palace was a force to be reckoned with.
The atmosphere suddenly grew quiet. Tiange noticed that the man before her had no intention of leaving. She glanced around the cell and finally gestured to the wooden bed beside her. "Please, have a seat."
Rong Qi had come to show Tiange that the Merchant Alliance hadn't forgotten about her, hoping to strengthen their trust and relationship. So, when Tiange offered him a seat, he accepted and walked over.
Then things got awkward.
Rong Qi sat on the wooden bed, while Tiange stood beside it, creating an unmistakable vibe of a young lord and his personal maid, with a hint of ambiguity.
Rong Qi broke the silence, “Have a seat.”
Where to sit?
Tiange thought there was no way she could sit with Wen Yu. It would be disrespectful and awkward.
The only other place to sit in the cell was the low table.
Once Tiange sat across from him at the table, neither spoke a word.
Looking at the man in front of her, memories of him flooded back like a tide.
In her past life, she had never met Wen Yu face-to-face, but they had clashed a few times.
She remembered once trying to infiltrate the Nether Market with the influence of the Thirteen Sects, only for Wen Yu to catch her agents and hang them at the market’s entrance for a whole day.
That incident had infuriated her, and she had cursed Wen Yu's ancestors thoroughly.
Given their history, if Wen Yu had met a tragic end, she might have laughed herself awake from a dream.
Yet, Wen Yu hadn’t.
While Tiange was lost in thought, Rong Qi felt like he was turning into a statue under her intense gaze, dying of embarrassment.
“Tiange, if I may ask, why does the leader want to help me seek revenge?”
Feng Tiange had asked herself this question hundreds of times, always without an answer. Behind the mask, Rong Qi's expression grew colder. He believed Feng Tiange's account was incorrect; it wasn't him aiding her revenge, but the other way around. Yet, he would never voice this thought.
"Seeking justice," Rong Qi murmured with indifference. Even if it meant slaughtering countless lives, he was determined to seek justice for Dugu Yan.
Justice? Justice lies in people's hearts, but hearts are fickle. Having lived another life, Feng Tiange no longer sought justice. What she wanted was to ensure that she would never again be wronged by the world, even if it meant turning her back on it.
Just then, footsteps approached from the distance. Feng Tiange looked up abruptly, but the room was already empty. Wen Yu had left. Her eyes dimmed slightly as emotions she hadn't even noticed began to spread quietly, reaching deep into her heart.
As she turned around, the iron door of the cell swung open. After the guard respectfully stepped back, a voice softly asked, "How are you, Ms. Tiange?"
How was she? Well, she was fine, thank you very much.
"Your servant greets the Crown Prince," Feng Tiange said, surprised by Beiming Yuan's visit. All her emotions froze in that moment.
For some reason, every time Beiming Yuan saw Feng Tiange, he felt she was too distant from him. So, he stepped forward, reaching out to help her up, but before his fingers could touch her, Feng Tiange deliberately stepped back.
"Get up. I just found out this morning that they brought you here. If I had known earlier, I wouldn't have let them act so recklessly." Beiming Yuan brushed past Tiange and sat on the wooden bed. "You should sit too."
The same situation can feel entirely different depending on who's involved.
"You're too kind, Your Highness. Lord Ding was just doing his duty." Tiange lowered her gaze, deliberately avoiding Beiming Yuan's eyes, fearing she couldn't hide the deep resentment within them.
We were once partners; I fought for you, and you left me with nothing.
Yet, someone like Wen Yu, whom I've never met, still seeks justice for me.
People are truly different from one another.
Beiming Yuan nodded. "That Ding Yuv is a tough nut to crack. Even if I spoke to him, he might not listen. But rest assured, though he's strict, he wouldn't dare let Ms. Tiange suffer unjustly."
Tiange had nothing to say.
Beiming Yuan sighed quietly and removed his cloak as he stood up. "It's cold here. You should wear this..."
"Absolutely not!" Tiange stepped back decisively as Beiming Yuan reached out. "This isn't a place for Your Highness. Please return to the palace to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings."
Beiming Yuan's hand, holding the cloak, froze in mid-air, his dark eyes fixed intently on the woman before him.
With his esteemed status, could anyone actually refuse him? His sister truly was one of a kind.
"Alright then." Beiming Yuan folded the cloak neatly and placed it on the low table. "Put it on whenever you feel cold."
After Beiming Yuan left, Feng Tiange couldn't sleep a wink. She sat on the wooden bed all night, her eyes fixed on the cloak on the table, bloodshot and weary. Her fists were clenched so tightly that her nails dug into her palms without her noticing...
The next day, the courtroom was bustling early. Qin Chun stood with Wei Xun as the plaintiff. Originally, Feng Tiange was supposed to be brought out as the defendant. However, Feng Qing accused Wei Xun of falsely incriminating his daughter, causing a shift in Wei Xun's status as the plaintiff. With Lord Ding agreeing to try both cases together, Feng Tiange suddenly found herself sidelined, without any official standing.
In the courtroom, Feng Qing, as the plaintiff, presented the "real culprit," a servant from Wei Xun's household. The young servant knelt, tears streaming down his face, recounting how Wei Zhanpeng had cruelly taken advantage of the maids. When one refused him, he heartlessly threw her into a dry well and stoned her to death.
Lord Ding's question was, "How does this directly link you to the murder of Wei Zhanpeng?"
The young servant was in tears, confessing that he and the maid had secretly pledged their lives to each other. To avenge her, he took the opportunity while delivering food to Wei Zhanpeng to smother his own master to death. In response, Imperial Tutor He presented the coroner's revised report, which indeed indicated signs of suffocation on Wei Zhanpeng. Ding Yuv looked at the report, at a loss for words.
