The candied fruit was not just an ordinary hawthorn fruit wrapped in a layer of gluey sugar. Instead, a layer of white, spiderlike threads of sugar were placed outside the gluey fruit, wrapping around the string of candied hawthorn fruits like layers of spider webs made of honey.
