C25 Value of 30 Taels

Ning Silian felt so good that she didn't even have to step forward. She couldn't help but smile.

When Ning Silian pushed open the door and entered, Ji Ruchang leaned on the door and looked at her. "Who was that person?"

Ning Silian's expression didn't change as she put the basket back into the kitchen. While she took out the wooden basin, she poured out the wild vegetables from the basket and headed for the well in the yard.

"Ning Huai, come over here!" Ning Silian saw Ji Ruchang and Ning Huai were whispering to each other, trying to get him to come over so that Ji Ruchang wouldn't always try to trick him.

"Elder sister!" Ning Huai glanced at Ji Ruchang and ran to Ning Silian's side.

She poured water from the well into a wooden basin. The slightly cold water from the well soaked the green wild vegetables. Ning Silian washed the soil from the leaves while placing it in another basin.

"Elder sister, are you going to eat this in the morning?" Ning Huai squatted on the side and imitated her movements, and continuously put it into the other basin.

"Okay, eat this first." Ning Silian looked at the wild vegetable in her hand with a sad expression.

After simmering the rice porridge and draining the wild vegetables, Yuan Zhou heated them with the leftover soup from the previous night and sprinkled them on top of the porridge. Only then did he take the dishes to Ji Ruchang's room.

The two of them finished eating very quickly. Ji Ruchang was drinking his porridge slowly and remained silent.

"Um, I'll go to the Gulo City to pawn the jade pendant. Do you have anything I can help you with?" Ning Silian clutched the corner of her clothes uneasily as she glanced at Ji Ruchang. He was sitting quietly in front of the table, not even raising his eyes.

Ning Silian looked out of the window and saw that it was already dawn. The villagers should be up by now. If they were to meet her and Dong Qing later, it would be too much of a chatterbox for them to talk about.

"Well, you take your time and eat first. Huai and I will go first. You keep the bowls and chopsticks, I'll clean them up when I get back!"

"Wait a minute!" Ji Ruchang's cold face finally showed signs of disintegration, "Do you know how much I should treat this jade pendant?"

"How much?" Ning Silian turned around. She really didn't know. She only guessed that this pawnshop from ancient times was at least as innocent as it used to be.

Ji Ruchang extended three fingers and pointed them at Ning Silian.

"Three taels?"

Ji Ruchang's fingers trembled slightly. It turned out that his jade pendant was so worthless in her eyes, as it was a tribute given by the Western Liao, and was the only one in the entire Eastern Zhou Dynasty.

Seeing his unsightly expression, Ning Silian asked in a low voice, "Thirty taels of silver?"

Ji Ruchang saw her incredulous expression and let out a sigh in his heart. It was just 30 taels of silver. It should be enough for her to hold on for a while. After all, even 300 taels of silver would make her suspicious of him.

Putting down his finger, Ji Ruchang stood up slightly, "Just bring me some medicine. Take the rest of the silver and use it yourself!"

Hearing that, Ning Silian was overjoyed. She immediately dragged Ning Huai out of the house.

Dongqing had borrowed an oxcart from Uncle Mo's house next door and had been waiting for them under the old tree at the entrance of the village. When she saw them come out, she immediately went to greet them.

"Brother Dong Qing!" Ning Silian raised her head to look at the simple man in front of her. The feeling Dong Qing gave her was that of the big brother next door.

"Hurry up and come up!" Dong Qing carried Ning Huai and sat at the back of the cart.

Although it was called an ox-cart, it was actually just a wooden cart pulled by a buffalo. There was a carved armchair on it, and the empty spot was propped up with straw. Normally, Dong Qing would never lay the straw, but today was different.
