C7 CHAPTER 7: HAPPINESS

Juanita was in a good mood after eating her food, she washed the plates quickly and dried them before putting them back into the old, blue kitchen unit that was on the verge of falling apart.

She went to the bathroom and bent down to do some laundry. It was good that the clothes were not a lot and after all that soaking, the clothes were clean so all she had to do was rub and rub and then rinse them.

She was done in less than an hour and she went outside to hang her clothes. Looking at the bright sun outside, she was in a good mood. It was spring and the price of fresh produce was high.

And thinking of selling her goodies in the future, Juanita happily hummed a tune as she returned inside the house. The neighbor who had come out to throw some trash, couldn’t help but look at Juanita with a strange light in her eyes.

“What is wrong with that girl?” she wondered but brushed it aside as it wasn’t any of her business.

Juanita warmed some water and took a warm bath before changing into some beautiful clothes. She had some money she received from her former workplace and she decided to go and buy herself some clothes.

Juanita was planning to go home now that she was no longer working and spent some time with her family. As she thought about this, she was in a good mood. Her landlord had been making her life hard lately and she didn’t mind moving out.

This place wasn’t safe at all and with no job in the area, Juanita didn’t want to live here at all. So, she decided to go back home, be with her parents and then go traveling.

She wanted to upgrade her farm quickly and in towns and villages, it was easy to find some exotic and new plants and this will help her a lot.

After making up her mind, she began to pack her belongings and placed them neatly into her thatched hut. She was going to bring all those that were in good condition and throw away the bad ones.

There was only one week left before the month-end and she was not going to give that rude person her money again. After placing her bed and chest of the drawer into her farm hut, the place looked better and homely.

Juanita still left for her shopping and spent two hours buying some clothes for herself. Since it was already late, she decided to resume her shopping the following day.

When she returned home, she removed her clothes from the line and took them inside, and ironed them. She also cooked some food since she didn’t buy any takeaway when she was out.

After eating the food cooked with the farm water, she was happy as the food tasted better than before. With all the work done, she returned to the farm and harvested all the rice, and sold one bag of rice.

The money she now had was enough to buy seeds to plant at least five times, so she was no longer troubled as she was in the beginning. With a bag of rice, she could now eat, Juanita happily planted some more rice and went to bed.

The next day, she harvested her rice first before planting more and began her house chores. She ate her leftover food from the fridge and took a shower and changed into some of the clothes she bought when she went shopping yesterday.

When she was done, she called the landlord and told him that she was moving out that month-end and the man were elated and didn’t even bother to hide it. Juanita sneered when she hung up the phone and went to do the shopping.

On this day she bought some clothes for her parents and some accessories. She spent quite a few hours enjoying herself and ended up meeting a few faces she didn’t want to see.

“Oh, I thought that you will be home weeping and mopping for being out of a job. Why do you have the mood to go shopping?” the woman dressed in cream white tight fitted dress asked her with a sneer on her face.

Juanita didn’t know what she did to piss this woman off but now she was seeing for herself just how much hatred the other has for her.

“Hahaha, why should I cry as if it is the end of the world? It wasn’t like I was being paid millions there! At least now, I don’t have to be worked like a donkey by some lazy ass. Yesterday it was me but imagine the day when your lies are exposed and also get kicked out of there! Look forward to that day, manager!” Juanita mocked her former manager and brushed past her shoulders and left.

The manager was so angry that she stomped her feet and hurriedly followed Juanita and stopped her by holding her shoulders.

“Who do you think are? Who gave you the right to talk to me like that?” the manager yelled angrily at Juanita and on this stage, the manager was so furious that she didn’t even see that she had attracted a lot of attention to them and a small crowd was already forming.

Juanita wanted to leave some dignity for this woman but she was so crazy and egoistic that Juanita decided to teach the other a lesson, “Mary, I used to respect you a lot because it is not easy to be seated in the position where you are right now. But after being with you for months I realized that you were as dirty as the others I have come across with. I did all the work and yet you took all the credit for my hard work. Did it ever cross your mind that one day you will face your karma? I don’t want to fight with you at all, so while I am still nice get away from my face.”

Mary was speechless, embarrassed and her face green as Juanita exposed her deeds in public. It was the first time she experienced an outburst from Juanita, she didn’t know that the other could talk like this.

And by the time she realized that she had been humiliated, everyone was looking at her and pointing fingers at her and the culprit Juanita was nowhere to be found. Mary could only hang her face and ran away with shame all over her face.

Juanita was even happier knowing that she had slapped Mary in her face, Juanita was even polite considering how much pain and suffering she had brought to her life.

Juanita was not going to let anyone or anything stop her from being happy in her life, she was going to fight hard this time and they should all watch out!
