C14 How Could the Net Break?

Yeh Xirann paced back and forth several times before she noticed a black MPV pulling up at the entrance of the nearby commercial street.

Four individuals quickly disembarked from the vehicle.

Despite the short distance, their figures and facial features were obscured by umbrellas, sunglasses, and masks.

Reporters, with their keen noses for news, swarmed the scene, only to be held back by security guards who had seemingly materialized from thin air, preventing them from getting any closer.

Lacking the height and weight advantage of the reporters, Yeh Xirann was at a disadvantage.

She followed the crowd for a bit, then abruptly halted. It was pointless to trail them from afar; she needed to find another way in.

The shooting area was vast, and no matter how many guards were present, there were bound to be oversights. After circling most of the area, she finally spotted an opportunity.

One section, still under renovation, was not yet in use.

Someone was posted at the front of the stairs, but there was a narrow gap between the barriers of two shops being refurbished...

She had slimmed down considerably, just enough to squeeze through.

Seizing the moment when the guards were distant, she planned to leap onto the netting between the stairs and the railing, then climb up stealthily and slip into the filming area.

Without hesitation, Yeh Xirann executed her plan, slipping into the gap as soon as the guards turned away.

Once they were gone, she took her chance and leapt down with agility.

However, she hadn't considered that the safety net might be just for show!

She found herself entangled in the net, plummeting downwards, a sense of despair washing over her.

In a twist of fate, when one thinks they've reached the depths of despair, it's possible to sink even lower...

Take Yeh Xirann, for instance, now wrapped up like a chrysalis in the net, dangling a mere 30 centimeters above the ground, swinging gently like a pendulum.

"Are you a celestial being from the Silken Cave?" a playful, unfamiliar male voice asked from behind her. Though Yeh Xirann could hear him, she was unable to turn and see.

This spot was not usually trafficked, so it was unlikely someone would just pass by. This person was probably a reporter who had found his own way in.

Regardless, seeking help was the priority.

"So... would this kind soul be willing to extend a hand to a fellow traveler from afar?" Yeh Xirann asked, her voice tinged with embarrassment.

There was a prolonged silence behind her. Had it not been for the absence of footsteps, Yeh Xirann might have thought the person had left.

Just as she was about to inquire again about the willingness to assist, the sound of a sudden sprint came from behind.

A small, agile knife sliced through the net that ensnared her, and she found herself securely caught in strong arms...

"Whoa, lighter than I expected. I put in too much effort. I figured you and the thirty-pound net together would weigh close to two hundred pounds."

He set Yeh Xirann down gently, chuckling at his own jest.

"Do you have mirrors for eyes? Where do I look like I weigh one hundred and seventy pounds?"

Even bound up, she managed an eye roll.

The man had a handsome face, but his teasing was merciless! She hadn't even reached one hundred and twenty pounds at the end of her pregnancy!

"If it wasn't a fat lady's net, why would it have broken? And... if you don't speak nicely, I'll leave you here!"

His threat worked wonders. Yeh Xirann clamped her lips shut, no longer daring to speak out of turn—she was still entangled in the net, after all!

The man's knife, its material a mystery, was incredibly sharp. With just a few quick slashes, it freed her from the net that had bound her.

Now able to move, Yeh Xirann quickly stood up, brushed the dust from her clothes, and expressed her gratitude to her rescuer.
