C10 Selling Persimmons
Zhang Ah Da's cart slowly approached the village in the midst of the villagers' anticipation. It was an old cow who was farming, pulling a Handcart. Due to the strong autumn wind, There was a shed on top of the Handcart. Using a rag as a curtain, it could slightly block the wind.
The coachman, Zhang Ah Da, received the money one by one and let them get on the cart. The cart was full of people, and it did not stop for another quarter of an hour before heading towards the county town.
The cart took four hours to arrive at the county town. Fu Nanzhu felt that her bones were about to shake and scatter. Compared to her family, Peach Blossom Village, which was closer to the county town, it only took two hours. Thinking that she would have to take the cart even if she sold medicinal Crispy Persimmons in the future, she was a little worried.
"We are here. Come at noon. We will wait for fifteen minutes. Those who did not make it will walk back by themselves." Zhang Ah Da jumped out of the cart and tied the rope under the big tree. He told the villagers.
Fu Nanzhu jumped out of the carriage and saw Ge Shi staring at her. She did not give Ge Shi any time to talk and jumped off the carriage. She walked straight to her destination.
In the past, in Peach Blossom Village, she often came to the county town. Fu Nanzhu knew the way.
She went straight to the biggest restaurant in the county city, Wangke Restaurant. When she was at her mother's house, she heard people say that there was a time when hunters went into the mountains to pick wild honey and sent it to Wangke Restaurant to sell. If the shopkeeper here was honest, he would also take the things of the villagers.
"Little Second Brother, I'm here to deliver some fresh things. Does your manager accept it?" Fu Nanzhu knew that she was dressed poorly and could not block the entrance of the restaurant, so she pulled the waiter to the side and asked.
The waiter looked to be thirteen or fourteen years old and was white and clean. He wore short clothes and a white bandana on his shoulder.
"Come with me then."
The waiter brought Fu Nanzhu into the restaurant through the back door and asked her to wait. Then, he went to call the shopkeeper himself.
The manager of Wangke Restaurant came quickly. The manager wore a Landlord hat and had a long goatee. He looked at Fu Nanzhu as he stroked her hair, "Xiaoliang said that you were here to sell things. What is it?"
Fu Nanzhu took off the basket backpack and brought the Crispy Persimmon to the manager for him to see.
The manager frowned and carefully looked at the persimmon a few times. In the end, he sighed and said, "This Young Lady, what kind of novelty is this persimmon of yours? I am very busy with the previous matters. Take the persimmon to the market and sell it."
"I am not an ordinary persimmon. I can eat it directly!"
Seeing that the shopkeeper was about to leave, Fu Nanzhu hurriedly shouted. No one knew how to eat Crispy Persimmon now. It was normal that the shopkeeper did not know what it was.
"Isn't this just an ordinary persimmon... can it be eaten directly?" The shopkeeper said with a smile. After carefully tasting the second half of Fu Nanzhu's words, he moved his steps back and stood in front of Fu Nanzhu. He looked at her with a serious expression, "Don't make fun of me. This persimmon has a very bitter taste. How can I eat it directly?"
"Can't you just taste it and you'll know? Lend me a knife."
The shopkeeper was curious when he saw Fu Nanzhu's confident look.
He called the waiter back and said, "Xiaoliang, try it."
"Why is it me, shopkeeper..." Xiaoliang looked troubled. He was really unlucky to bring this big sister in and even tricked him. However, he did not dare to disobey the shopkeeper's orders.
Xiaoliang took the Crispy Persimmon from Fu Nanzhu's hand. He closed his eyes in despair and took a bite. After that, he took a second and a third bite. Half of a fist-sized persimmon was gone in an instant.
"How does it taste?" The shopkeeper asked anxiously.
"Uuu..." Xiaoliang's mouth was full of persimmons. How could he say anything?
The shopkeeper waved his hand at Fu Nanzhu. Fu Nanzhu happily picked up a persimmon and placed it in his palm. The shopkeeper did not believe it. He lowered his head and took a bite, and his eyes lit up.
He took another bite and swallowed it contentedly. He was not like Xiaoliang who could not control himself. He still had business to discuss. He held the persimmon with bite marks in his hand and asked, "Are you different from the local persimmons? It looks a little bigger."
"It's the local persimmons. It's just that I have a secret recipe to remove the bitterness of these persimmons."
Fu Nanzhu placed a basket of persimmons in front of the shopkeeper. These specially selected persimmons naturally looked very good. Each of them looked yellow and bright. In the shopkeeper's eyes, they were all very cute. They were all little babies that could turn into ingots of silver.
"Tell me, how are you going to sell them?" The shopkeeper was also a straightforward person and directly asked Fu Nanzhu to name a price.
"500 wen!" Fu Nanzhu called out a price.
Xiaoliang was so shocked that his mouth was wide open. His hand that was holding the persimmon core trembled slightly. "Big sister, your price is too high. This persimmon can only be sold for one wen and two jin. You are killing a pig!" Pig killing was the dialect of this place. It referred to cheating people and asking for a sky-high price.
Fu Nanzhu raised the corner of her lips and looked at Xiaoliang lovingly. She asked softly, "Can you eat the persimmons directly?"
"No." Xiaoliang answered honestly.
"Have you ever eaten any other tough persimmons other than this Crispy Persimmon of mine?" Fu Nanzhu continued to ask.
"No." Xiaoliang shook his head like a rattle drum, but his eyes were still full of doubt. What did what she said have anything to do with her high price?
Xiaoliang did not understand. The shopkeeper, who was stroking his beard, did understand what she meant. Things were precious because they were rare. These things were worth this price.
He raised his hand to stop Xiaoliang, who still wanted to ask questions, and said in a good tone, "Young Lady, five hundred wen is really a little too high. Three hundred wen, what do you think?"
Fu Nanzhu frowned and thought about it. The basket basket of persimmons she brought today was only a quarter of the big pot. If it could not be sold for five hundred wen, then it would not be enough for two taels of silver. Even if she continued to make the next batch, she would not be able to keep up with the 5 day agreement. She pursed her lips and insisted. "500 wen, not one less wen."
The shopkeeper's face sank, and he was also somewhat hesitant in his heart. This thing had never been sold before, but who knew if it would be sold!
"Shopkeeper, if you peel it off, who can tell that it's a persimmon? He picked some delicate white porcelain plates and put them on. He asked the chef to put some flowers on the side. Once you're dressed, you can just say that it's fresh fruit from the south. " Fu Nanzhu had seen the world in her previous life, so she described it to the manager.
When the manager heard that, he felt that it was very reasonable! Who among these rich people did not like those rare goods, especially those that looked good and tasted good?
"Okay, five hundred wen. I'll bring it to you later." Although he was a little hesitant, Wangke Restaurant was the biggest restaurant in the county, so he could afford the risk of five hundred wen.
Xiaoliang was so surprised that his jaw almost fell off. Fu Nanzhu only had 20 persimmons on her back, and he had just eaten one. This was not 20 wen. One. He had eaten all the wages for the day. He quickly smacked his lips a few times and tried hard to savor the aftertaste.
