C4 The Abandoned Daughter of a Rich Family(4)

After dinner, Lingling took Mooh Bai shopping for clothes and a new hairstyle. Sure enough, clothes make the person, and Mooh Bai's fresh look caught the attention of little girls passing by. Luckily, Lingling had already spruced herself up beforehand, or she might have felt out of place.

The next day was a weekday, and Lingling went to school to help Mooh Bai apply for home study. Once the paperwork was done, they visited Mooh Bai's parents' graves and returned to the house Lingling had bought that evening.

"Mooh Bai, I bought this house. From now on, it's our home," Lingling said.

Mooh Bai wanted to ask how things were with her biological parents, but he was afraid that if he did, she might want to go back to them. Lingling understood his unspoken question and decided to explain, "My biological parents don't like me. They have an adopted daughter they adore. Thankfully, I never transferred my household registration."

Mooh Bai was eighteen, but not yet officially an adult. The Yuan family suggested waiting until he came of age before Lingling transferred her registration. In hindsight, it saved a lot of trouble. As for family ties, they needed to be completely severed. Otherwise, if Lingling became successful, the Yuan family might suddenly claim her as their beloved daughter again. If she refused to acknowledge them then, she'd be criticized harshly.

Public opinion can be unforgiving. Lingling didn't mind for herself, but she felt responsible for the original owner's reputation.

"Sis, this is your home," Mooh Bai said.

"Well, aren't you the sweet one," Lingling replied. "Your room has a bathroom, so go freshen up and take a shower."

"Okay."

Mooh Bai was stunned when he entered his room. It was decorated just like his room at the Mooh family home, in gray and white tones, with everything arranged to his liking.

"Do you like it? You freshen up, and I'll make us something to eat," Lingling said.

Mooh Bai smiled. This sister seemed pretty great.

After a simple meal of noodles, they called it a night. As Lingling lay in bed with a face mask on, she remembered she was in her senior year of high school, with college entrance exams just two months away.

Mooh Bai is currently studying at home and will return to the neighboring state for the college entrance exams.

Thinking about studying and exams instantly dampened Lingling's mood. Yiyi, a year younger than the original protagonist, is also a senior in high school. Lingling chuckled to herself, knowing exactly how to make a lasting impression on Yiyi.

The next morning, Lingling was jolted awake by the phone ringing. After hanging up, it rang again. She answered with a shout, "Spit it out already!"

On the other end, Yuan Lin was fuming, struggling to maintain his "high society manners." "Get back here right now!"

"Who are you?"

"I'm your father!"

Now fully awake, Lingling scoffed, "Now you remember you're my father? Isn't it a bit late? After all, kids don't raise themselves."

Imagining Yuan Lin's current expression made Lingling want to laugh. "Alright, I'll be there!"

Meanwhile, in the Yuan family living room, the usual façade of a loving family was on display.

When Lingling arrived, the family was happily having breakfast. Their expressions soured the moment they saw her shabby clothes. Lingling couldn't care less; she wore old clothes on purpose to annoy them.

She reached for a bun and started eating.

"You've got some nerve coming back!" Yuan Lin slammed the table and stood up.

Lingling remained unfazed. "If you've got a problem, get it checked. Don't go barking around early in the morning, disturbing people's peace."

He had the nerve to call her back at dawn and now had the audacity to question her? Was he out of his mind?

Yiyi's lips curled up but quickly straightened as she silently cursed Lingling.

"If you want to laugh, laugh. If you want to curse, curse. Only the weak do it in their heads," Lingling said, unimpressed by Yiyi's fake demeanor.

"Lingling, how dare you talk about your sister like that! Where have you been these past few days?" Su Mei felt utterly disgraced by this rebellious daughter and looked at Lingling with increasing disdain...
